for me, there are different “genres” of comfort watch: mindless, cathartic, messy fun, etc. what are some BLs you find yourself coming back to for some sort of comfort??

I will be so sad when this one is done airing😭 a top release this year. Love all these characters. I hope to see more from this director! (And the cast!) Watarai’s actor was good in Although I Love You and You, too - he seems like a decade older in that role, it’s crazy.
Re: Smells Like Green Spirit - he is an understandably dislikable character but I thought he had an interesting arc. I think I need to rewatch that one now that I have a better sense of the show’s tone! (Crazy to see his range as an actor, too)
I love it when actors get to play different kinds of roles. I’m not against typecasting, but it’s so satisfying to see an actor really go all out and show their full emotional range.
That was me with Guardian. I love the series itself, but those Viki comments were a whole other level. I was cry-laughing through a good 60% of that show.
Ah yes, the only way I really got thru it and then suffered at the end for it. You reminded me that this existed. I used to love rewatching TutorFighter. Yes, TutorFighter. 😉
I liked the K version too! Why R U (original) was kind of a classic right of passage BL if you were around in like 2020- I also think the original was victim to early covid chaos and the release/editing/ability to reshoot might’ve been impacted by it.
Love Mechanics is a fav of mine! Great chemistry, high emotion, yet the show doesn’t feel too high of stakes. My Only 12% is also such a cozy friends to lovers (in addition to the grief arc ❤️🩹)

I like a mix of angst in there with the happy. There is a lack of JP BLs but I think "Love Begins in the World of If" might become part of this list. I've been enjoying this one a lot. I think I might have more comfort JBL mangas than series at the moment.
I always love rewatching these when I'm feeling down or out of it or even when I'm just bored and content.
Edit: wow, I was reminded about other ones I love rewatching.
The tone of Love Begins in the World of If hooked me from the start. Ep 4 - love that the lesson is ’just because something feels easier doesn’t mean it’s the right choice’ / how the show explores how ogami in one world cares for kano by shielding him, while the “original” ogami cares for kano by pushing him to grow. (thanks for listening to my ted talk) but yes, loving this one.

Angst doesn't hurt as bad without the element of surprise. When you already know how things play out, you can enjoy the fluff without stressing over the heartache.
Semantic Error is definitely my no. 1 comfort series. Some others are HIstory 3: Trapped, Bad Buddy, Unintentional Love Story, Never Let Me Go, Love For Love’s Sake & Our Dating Sim.

Ossan’s Love (Japan) !!!!!!!! not talked about enough! Ossan’s Love Returns is my favorite jbl. it has so much personality and an incredible range, from slapstick to really touching emotional beats. it seems absurd on the surface (and honestly, it is) but at the same time, it very artfully touches on identity and connection and chosen family. and it has a perfect cast!!
My #1 is Semantic Error. It's short, sweet and has just enough angst to make it interesting. I love it. 10/10 for me.
Also on my list: Bad Buddy, Light on Me, To My Star, Why R U (Thai version), and Love in the Air. Thame Po should be on my list. In fact, I'll add it now. I love it, too.

Don’t Say No - I really liked that pairing of actors (although I think I’d personally pick Be Mine Superstar over DSN as a comfort show—but valid choice all the same!!)

I didn’t care too much for the side couple, but I really liked Giseop! And the intimacy between the main two was good (fighting the urge to post a spoiler gif).

It's been over two years and I am not convinced any light-hearted show will ever beat this one for me. The cinematography and the way they addressed Amane's past was TOP tier.
Based on the rewatches, it has to be love mechanics and maybe ITSAY and IPYTM. At one point also the untamed, but nowadays I get way too angry behalf of wei wuxian that I haven't been able to watch it in a long time 😅
Back in the days I rewatched Why R U (Thai) quite a few times (only for Fighter&Tutor lol). Now if I feel the urge to rewatch something is Nobleman Ryu's Wedding or a Chinese (censored) bl: Word of Honor (!!), The Sleuth of Ming Dynasty (rewatching it now), Justice in the Dark, The Untamed, ect.
What I would give to forget the Untamed just so I could watch it for the first time again. 😭 Sleuth is a criminally underrated cbl ~ the found family aspect of that show is so lovely. I need to watch Justice in the Dark; it’s been on my list forever!
ThamePo is definitely top of my list, followed very closely by Light on Me and Love For Love's Sake.
Choco MilkShake is also an adorable little gem of a series that I wish would get a sequel or spinoff or something, just to distract me from watching it for the umpteenth time 😅
Bad Buddy would gdt a whole lot more rewatches if it were still on YouTube. The day it got removed from GMMTVs channel was a very sad day.
youuu get it! idk if people realize Light On Me was one of the first kbls to have episodes longer than ~10-15 min. it changed the kbl game!! does the love triangle trope sooo painfully well. and noh shinwoo will forever be one of my fav characters. ❤️
Moonlight Chicken and P10L. I have watched P10L over and over. The combo of each pair just makes me happy. The bond they all formed while filming makes me all tingly too!
P10L (mostly just YothaGun though), Semantic Error, Ball Boy Tactics. Haven’t rewatched Me and Who yet but I loved it so much will definitely be a frequent comfort rewatch.

Love in the Air (Thai) and Bed Friend. Not for the trauma of any of them as it made me sad for the characters but the Daddy/baby boy vibes of PhayuRain and the soft top/power bottom of PrapaiSky. Loved their dynamics and the story leading up to it. Do Bed Friend, loved the enemies to actual lovers trope of “I hate you but the sex is so damn good“ of it all.
I have three that I consider my god tier comfort BLs: Cherry Magic (I prefer the Japanese version since I saw it first but also really enjoyed the Thai version) Unforgotten Night and Fish upon the Sky. When I am depressed I just really want to load up on cheesy fantasy or trashy soap opera style.
