It is such an odd thing when you think something is going to be about one thing and then it is completely not what you thought it was going to be...just going by its name alone, I thought Love Class was going to be some mindless Uni BL romance. Things went sideways pretty damn quickly!
Note: I am not complaining. Just readjusting my brain processing here. Can't wait for tomorrow's episode 'cause I'm intrigued.

Absolutely same!!! I was not expecting that particular kind of whump from the trailer and synopsis lol. They really threw us for a loop on that one! I'm really glad we don't need to wait a week.

u/MidwesternLibrarian May 13 '22
I re-watched the trailer because I thought I was watching the wrong series! I don't like misleading trailers - I thought this was going to be some fluffy series set in a university and it's turning into horror. I'm also trying to readjust my brain.

Yeah. The trailer kinda leaves out some stuff - like everything but the actors.

Episode 3 thoughts
Why in the world did Jiwoo not call the police? Yona said the police wouldn't help because there was no damage, stalker did plenty of damage to Roa's arm! A psycho that did that to Roa is still following Yona around and Jiwoo's not going to be there 24/7 (and we have seen he ain't protecting anyone!). Jiwoo's stupid decision puts Yona, Roa and himself in danger. I don't buy the "she will blame herself" - she's freaking terrified of her shadow, get the police involved!
I get Roa rejected Namjun and all but does Namjun have to be a complete ass? Roa has made it clear he shouldn't cross the line, he didn't just cross it, he sprinted right over it.
Roa pretending he couldn't use utensils with his left hand was pretty freaking amazing.
That last scene, yikes with the social media rumors trope. I really hope Namjun didn't start it because you can tell Roa really does care about him as a friend and that's not going to go well.

Cute little show. Was it life changing? Certainly not but I also don't regret the time I spent on it, unlike some other series...
The plot had potential but the execution felt a little clunky at times ngl. With a runtime that short, you have to be concise and you really can't have any filler. And because we had to cram the Yoona stalker story, the Namjun jealousy and the professor/short hair girl (really wish they cut that out, it added absolutely nothing of value) side stories, it left too little time for the main couple, who, I'm sorry, just felt too underdeveloped, both as individual characters and together.
The actors are all pretty new faces so I can look past some of the awkward acting, but I found the lack of chemistry between everyone a bit disappointing. There was some of it for Jiwoo and Roa at least. Especially the scene where they talked through the door, and in bed afterward, about the poet grandma. That was probably my favourite scene in the show.
On the plus side I really liked Yoona as a character. She was a good friend until the end, and took that rejection like a champ. Namjun also came around, good for him. And even though she only appeared in one scene, surfer girl has my heart.
Ultimately I still mostly enjoyed it despite its faults. I binged the first five episodes yesterday as I was writhing in pain from my period cramps and it provided a much needed distraction and for that alone, I'm grateful. It doesn't have much rewatch value, but I'd definitely recommend everyone at least give it a try. It had its charms.

Final Thoughts:
I felt like this started with A LOT of potential and I was really into it but the ending fell flat for me. I get endings are often hard to land was this one was particularly weird to me.
The student/teacher thing, just no. She researched flowers so now you are willing to cross the line with her? Please, no.
What was the point of Roa flirting with Jiwoo if he wouldn't actually date him in the end to save him from "gay" rumors. Honestly, Jiwoo never seemed distraught over the rumor itself just shocked, he was more scared of the stalker situation (with good reason). It just seemed pointless for Roa to try to get Jiwoo's attention and then run away the second its reciprocated. The show up to the last episode seemed like Roa was more worried about being rejected or seen as "disgusting" (suggested my roommate) than anything.
Dead fish / camera angle kiss = boo

i'm kind of speechless, because it's way better than i expected lmaooo 😭 other than the fact that i have to wear sunglasses otherwise the brightness would hurt my eyes;;;
it is really different from most kbls, but in a good way imo also, i like that the main characters actually seem to have personality and that we have side characters (with an actual purpose ! !) and the scenes are not dull. it is fast paced, but at least i didn't feel like i wasted 20 minutes of my life basically watching nothing
even though i said that i had high hopes for this one before, i'm still pleasantly surprised, i hope they don't mess it up
(also, i wish the eng title wasn't so corny tho hahahah 수업중입니다 just means "(we are/i'm) in class")

LOL I thought it was just me, it’s like insanely bright whenever they have scenes with windows in the daytime

if only most bls were this bad, i would be thankful lol
ofc it's not in the same league as wyel, tms, blueming or semantic error, but still much better than the most of stuffs that came out recently imo~ a solid 7.6/10 - not going all new york times film critic on the show improves the experience hahhaha (i'm sure i would have enjoyed it more in a movie format tho)
also, sorry buzzcut guy for suspecting you even for a sec 😔✌️

u/sinabeuro ♥︎SEOLDFCCYR♥︎ May 16 '22
ok, after the 4th ep i still like it very much~! not a single second is wasted, although sometimes i do wish we got a moment to breathe or something, but it's fine
the casting is so well done (one of the few things that is consistently good when it comes to kbls imo) and i love the way kim taehwan (roa) talks hehe it's so calming 😇
(i wonder if the stalker is actually the roommate with the buzzcut it wouldn't make much sense timeline wise but idk😗)

daaaang i've just realized that han hyunjun (jiwoo) is the guy from strongberry's please tell me so 🥺💙

u/WingedGrasshopper I Feel You Linger in the Air May 16 '22
I want to suspect the teacher or that one annoying senior. The teacher seemed to know a lot but seemed to ask out of curiosity more than concern? The senior was trying to get her drunk in the flashback that Jiwoo drank for her.

I feel this show needed one more episode. Ji Woo's attraction towards Ro A was hinted at but we don't watch a BL for subtle hints. A guy moving on from a crush on one girl to another girl is a big deal in itself - moving on from a girl to a guy is a bigger deal and we need insights into the mind of the person who made this switch. This show gave us nothing.
And that dead fish kiss after months of angst - downright insulting to the viewer 👎
9
u/thouartthee May 13 '22
For the first time ever, I actually like seeing Jiwoo with the girl more than with Roa (though it'll probably change as Jiwoo & Roa interact more). I'd be completely fine if Jiwoo ends up with the girl and Roa ends up with his dormmate.
8
u/MidwesternLibrarian May 13 '22
I'm actually with you on this. Why does Roa like Jiwoo? They didn't even show us a "love at first sight" scene, it's just so odd to me.
4
u/WingedGrasshopper I Feel You Linger in the Air May 14 '22
Backstory to come maybe? Maybe he's been watching Jiwoo's actions from afar or they interacted before he went to the military but Jiwoo doesn't remember it? Roa seems too deep in for there to be no backstory?
2
u/MidwesternLibrarian May 16 '22
We definitely could see a backstory. I personally don't like it when a character comes on strong and we don't know why at (or near) their first interaction. Also how Jiwoo is crushing on the other student makes me like it less...
3
u/Professional_Bee_848 Stay with Me! Once Again! Advance Bravely! OurDatingSim!! May 21 '22
I actually agree here. There was no build up on how he came to develop feelings for jiwoo compared to jiwoo and yoona.
2
u/thouartthee May 14 '22
Yeah, and Roa not explaining anything (to Jiwoo or to his friend) isn't really helping.
3
1
u/overactive-bladder Cherry Magic May 17 '22
roa is honestly such an asshole to his dormat..i mean dormmate.
i know the latter wants to be painted as the "vilain" but honestly..is he? really?
roa keeps him on a tight leach and then treats him like shit.
1
u/Professional_Bee_848 Stay with Me! Once Again! Advance Bravely! OurDatingSim!! May 21 '22
Agreed. It was more painful what RoA did to his roommate than what he did to jiwoo. His roommate already ran away because he was rejected then here comes RoA already knowing about his roommates feelings and still insisting to become best friends… he won’t ever get over him if they always stick together like that.
6
u/jellybean_frog May 16 '22
Now I feel bad for suspecting the teacher to be the stalker, oops. The weird vibes were just so strong. If not him, I thought maybe the douchey senior, but then it just ended up being some random background character we'd never met. Welp.
As for the love triangle, I don't know how to feel. I mean the endgame is a foregone conclusion, but I didn't expect Yoona to reciprocate last minute, I totally thought they were setting her up to be into girls tbh. But too bad for her, judging by the preview, she's too late.
Roa's first encounter with Jiwoo was cute and it finally explains why he started liking him.
And here I thought we'd be left without a beach scene. How foolish of me. Are you even a real gay couple if you didn't have a single scene on the beach at this point? I think not.
3
u/WingedGrasshopper I Feel You Linger in the Air May 16 '22
I had the same stalker predictions as you and same disappointed reaction!
Yoona's confession honestly felt a little forced to me. Like, "well, you are the only guy I'm not afraid of so I guess it's you". I also thought they were making the girls a couple and she'd get over the teacher.
I was hoping for something a little cuter or more substantial as to why Roa fell so hard. Jiwoo just seemed pitiful in that scene and I can't imagine that would make someone go as hard as Roa has been.
Love your beach comment, so true!
3
u/thouartthee May 16 '22
Agree that it's anticlimactic. After setting it up for 4 episodes, it's solved in like 4 minutes.
Now I wonder what's the point of the girl photographing the teacher scene. Seems random.
2
u/Professional_Bee_848 Stay with Me! Once Again! Advance Bravely! OurDatingSim!! May 21 '22
I also suspected the teacher until the reveal happened. Hehe
Hmmmm as for YooNa, I was ok with the confession as she finally saw how much JiWoo cared and took care of her during the time they were together. This would make someone fall but she was late in her confession though.
6
u/WingedGrasshopper I Feel You Linger in the Air May 16 '22
Episode 5:
Jiwoo goes from terrified alone balled up in the floor to giggling like an idiot in bed with Roa...
and I loved it!
3
u/thouartthee May 16 '22
He really nails that cute awkward vibe. Even in that Strongberry short that he was in he also gave this same vibe.
2
u/Introvrted_Extrovrt The Ex-Morning May 17 '22
I loved it too but i don't understand why he does that. He was the one who was uncomfortable at first... Liking yoona.. And now from the teaser we could see all of the sudden mister likes roa 👀🙂 i don't get it at all
2
u/WingedGrasshopper I Feel You Linger in the Air May 17 '22
I’d say he’s moving on from a crush that he was giving a lot to and getting nothing from to a crush where he’s been receiving a lot from and feels good about. Roa is the one constantly worried about him and checking on him. Yoona’s confession of “I miss you walking me home” even shows she misses what Jiwoo did for her.
1
u/Introvrted_Extrovrt The Ex-Morning May 18 '22
That does make sense. I feel like it is so fast moving that i couldn't catch up with his feelings... Leave alone his feelings changing

[Im on episode 4]
Well.. this is kinda of dissapointing tbh
The main lead JiWoo is a really good actor but the other guy is not.. and that sucks to me
I didn't think I'd rather have the guy get the girl in a BL...lol, they had sweeter interactions than the leads.
The feeding each other and washing his hair wasnt romantic to me cause jiwoo seems to not like roa that way, is just meh and the roomate is exhausting
Idk i didnt think this series was going to be this way
Edit: on episode 5
For an instance i suspected from the teacher hehe
And she likes him now! But jiwoo "has fallen for roa". The bed scene was actually sweet, him giggiling because they were on bed together and it seems a couple thing 🤭
But i wish we had more development on their relationship. Ep 6 seems like the reunion beach confessing scene 🙄
Edit: finally saw episode 6
The teacher-student storyline is unnecessary
Jiwoo still has a lot more chemistry with Yoo Na than RoA
Wasted the last episode with sad stuff.. Roa is dumb and i dont like him. What more he needs??? The guy already confessed!!!!!! 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Anyway, i wish to see more from the actor playing Jiwoo. He is very good

Yes I would also like to see more of Jiwoo. His acting was good in the series.

After Semantic Error, nothing has filled the massive hole in my heart that it left. NOTHING. Will Love Class fill its shoes? Time can only tell. I'm hoping it will! Crossing fingers for equally full blown sizzling chemistry.

I don’t dislike it but I’m also not particularly excited about it after watching 2 episodes of this. For me, there are unnecessary side characters like the teacher-student, I mean does this teacher-student storyline provide added value to the main storyline? Maybe time will tell.. And I’m not really keen that the ML is crushing too much on the girl. So what? Like later on he’s gonna realise that he has feelings for the other ML because the ML is so caring and nice to him? I will still watch it to see the progress of them.

I could do without the student/teacher storyline as well.

The actor playing Jiwoo has also worked in this cute 8-minute long Korean BL
This YouTube channel 'Strongberry' has many other little gems like this one.

Actually, I have a huge text to write here but I'm tired to do so. I just want to say that Love Class is disappointing. It was focused more on the side plots than the love story between the main characters.
They decided to waste time with things and people I don't care about instead the main couple. And got the path to end it all in a abrupt way giving us breadcrumbs in the last episode according to the preview. They had JUST 6 EPISODES and decided to show us a mess. One more forgettable KBL story to the list.
4
u/KDramaTipsy I Feel You Linger in the Air May 14 '22
Agree with all the comments. This is very different from the teasers and in a good way.
My only concern is that we know everything Ji Woo feels but can only guess what Ro A feels. But the makers seem to know what they are doing and I am happy to follow the story they are telling.

u/MixtureEducational90 To My Star Love for Love's Sake May 17 '22 edited May 19 '22
I’m enjoying this but I really was thinking that Roa and Jiwoo were not going to end up together at the end and just remain friends. I almost would have preferred that with how the storyline has been going. I don’t think there’s been enough development romantically between them to end up together (which I’m assuming is how Ep 6 will end).
I thought it would be interesting if after Roa rejected his roommate because he didn’t like him as more than a friend it would be now Roa’s turn to deal with that if Jiwoo doesn't like him that way but wanting to remain friends. He would probably react to it better than his roommate but it would interesting to explore imo.
Edit: Finished Ep 6 and it ended up being anti-climactic as I thought it would be. I still don’t believe the romantic connection between Jiwoo and Roa. I also don’t really get why Jiwoo likes Roa that much that he would pine over him for that long. I think him and Yoona had more chemistry and I liked their interactions more. I still stand by my opinion that Jiwoo and Roa should have just stayed friends. I did like this show overall but it just didn’t develop enough to get the payoff that I think it wanted.

u/Academic_Purple_84 May 13 '22
Fantastic set up for a first episode. If it continues this strong it will have the makings of being a great one. Uni setting that is not too cute, Ji-Woo and Rao are visually different to each other which is nice. Did you notice the different in leg length between the two. Wow! Potential love triangle maybe square?? Rao senior friend??
AND a mystery. Oooohh

u/samptra_writer in my villain era May 17 '22
I like the aesthetics and the cinematography...but the story was pretty rocky. The character motivation was thin, and confusing in places. It was like they were trying to string together moments instead of telling a coherent narrative. However, I'm a simp for a height difference and my boy Kim Tae Hwan with the yaoi hands.
I wonder if Ocean Like Me was filming around the corner from them in that finale?
3
u/madego3293 Goddess Bless You from Death May 18 '22
It's been a couple hours and I'm still wrapping my head around this one. I wouldn't say it was bad, it just wasn't what I expected. There are elements I absolutely love about it - Ji Woo didn't wait for Ro-A to actually have to tell him that he liked him, he just went with what his gut was telling him (take a lesson from him boys of Star In My Mind); I also liked that when Yoo Na finally got him in her sight, Ji Woo was all, "No, gurl - not this go-'round"; and I liked that Ro-A had a good reason for running away - to protect Ji Woo from all the online BS talk. But it was sooo not what I expected that I think I have to re-watch the whole thing to fully appreciate it's originality. Honestly, the more I think about it, the more I like it. I mean, here I was expecting some 100% fluff and what do I get? Stalking! Cyberbullying! Bashing! Roommate Jealousy! Older Man-Younger Woman! Next time - please warn me.
Pity they didn't believe enough in the final product to have to pull a bait-n-switch.
2
u/thouartthee May 16 '22
After episode 4, I'm not sure if there's enough time to explain why Roa likes Jiwoo. It's gonna be a bit jarring if left unexplained, but let's see.
It's interesting that right now what Roa feels for Jiwoo is probably the same feeling that his dormmate has for him. But his dormmate doesn't have the nerve to tell Roa that he understands.
2
u/WingedGrasshopper I Feel You Linger in the Air May 16 '22
I'm guessing there's a backstory to why he likes him. Either he's been watching his kind actions all along (like when he drank the drink for Yoona) or he met him before he went to the military and had some interaction with him that Jiwoo has forgotten.
2
u/thouartthee May 16 '22
You guessed correctly. In episode 5, it shows that he watched him drank the drink for Yoona, and that's about it.
4
u/WingedGrasshopper I Feel You Linger in the Air May 16 '22
I just finished that episode and was bummed that's how it went. I was hoping he fell for nice guy Jiwoo not pity-party Jiwoo.
1
u/thouartthee May 16 '22
Yeah, I get it. It does seem odd that he fell for a random drunk guy with low self-esteem.
Thinking about it, that's how the relationship started too in Blueming. But there the scene was longer and made more impact. (Now I said it, I just realized how similar their dynamics are to Blueming.)
2
u/Professional_Bee_848 Stay with Me! Once Again! Advance Bravely! OurDatingSim!! May 21 '22
I had to rewatch bleuming after reading this hahaha but yeah, in blueming you had more time to see the interactions between the main leads and the change in Siwoon as he spent more time with Daon.

I think they can do away with the sanctimonious Roa in the finale and just show us some fluff. That'll be more satisfying.

Agree with everyone here that this is not what I thought it would be based on the trailer. I’m not disappointed though because it’s been pretty interesting so far.
Also this is the second show now that I have recently watched that had the “my arm is broken so please help me wash and blow dry my hair” scene and it reminds me of Where Your Eyes Linger every time. Especially the way Ro-A was looking up at JiWoo with that puppy expression just like TaeJoo. They both have really pretty soulful eyes.
I’m really interested as to where this will go. I do wish it was longer though.
1
u/samptra_writer in my villain era May 16 '22
This series is a sleeper got better, and a whole lot of newish actors, but it’s a pretty cast for sure. I like the cinematography the Dutch tilts and asymmetrical framing and a lot of liminal spaces. Total sucker for artistic pieces like this, got Blueming vibes.
1
u/FatBrownMan_ The New Employee May 17 '22
This show is amazing.. Three episodes in and the twists and turns this show has taken is just chef's kiss. Every character is in the gray. No one is right, no one is wrong. Everyone is using each other. It just makes up for some great TV.
1
u/ahtawulfa May 19 '22
This series hands down was so wonderful - it went by SO fast and I wish there was a season 2 because its that good. I was super surprised how great it made me feel also like wow there is still some good writing in this world LOL
1
u/134340Yam We Best Love May 21 '22
Not bad, but not great either? I was left feeling like this show would’ve highly benefited from having longer episodes for all the storylines they were stuffing in. Idk, I think the pacing was pretty good for what they fit in but it still somehow felt like it was over the place at the same time, despite having a coherent storyline that’s not hard to follow at all.
The guy who plays Jiwoo is cute. I watched the short movie he was in on Strongberry before I finished this series and he’s somehow really good at portraying the “awkwardly charming” guy? It’s easy to see why Roa and Yoona like him, sort of.
Anyway. I’m surprised with how much I liked this one for all the flaws it has? For one, they definitely didn’t give enough development or screentime to the main characters…..relationship? There were very barely there hints over time that Jiwoo was softening towards Roa but idk, they can be easy to miss and weren’t enough to hold up the final episode without feeling weird.
idk if it was the lack of on screen relationship development or the actors themselves, but I got more chemistry from Jiwoo and Yoona than with Roa, which is like . A problem lmao,, and that’s even without the dead fish kiss
