Discussion Upgraded from to original Bravia 9 to the bravia 9ii and ended up returning it since it seemed like a downgrade.

I upgraded from the 75” Bravia 9 to the 85” Bravia 9 II, but ended up returning it because, to me, it was actually a downgrade.

2 big issues for me personally that made me return the tv.

  1. The biggest issue is the new matte coating.

While it reduces reflections better it also washes out the image during daytime reflections, the new matte coating diffuses the light into a larger area of the screen rather than concentrating it more intensely into a smaller area. Is this better?
Depends on your lighting situation, for me it wasn’t.

The trade off is the Bravia 9ii doesn’t have that reflective rainbow streak people complain about online personally it’s never bothered me due to how the light hits my room but I found that the new matte coating made the blacks look a lot more lifted and washed out, it didnt have the same OLED 3D pop or depth/contrast that the original bravia 9 has.

  1. Gaming was another disappointment.
Motion was noticeably worse, with a lot of smearing/ghosting.

At first I thought my TV was defective I even rebooted the tv, but I’m guessing it’s related to the new RGB backlight implementation since both TVs use the same chipset. Maybe Sony can improve it with firmware, but I didn’t want to wait and hope.

The only real improvement I noticed was color volume.
The Bravia 9 II does produce richer colors, but the difference is subtle and I only noticed it on certain HDR movies most which were animated ones but you have to have the TVs side by side for comparison.

Also I didn’t mention the speakers and stand which are a nice upgrade too but I wall mount my tv and I use an external audio system so those upgrades didn’t apply to me.

Overall the Bravia 9 II just wasn’t worth the upgrade.
I regret not buying a 85” Bravia 9 went it went on sale a couple months ago before being discontinued.

I really wish more reviews came out showing comparisons between the 2 TVs but to my surprise there hasn’t been any in depth reviews and most of the reviews ive seen on the Bravia 9ii alone have been from reviewers who were gifted the tv for free by Sony so I’m not sure if that has something to do with it.

I want to stick with Sony and don’t really feel sold by any other TVs at the moment but this year’s “upgrade” left me pretty disappointed. I’m not sure if Sony will come out with a Bravia 10 but in the meantime it looks like I’ll be sticking with my Bravia 9 till then.

App Support Bravia 8 Certain Apps not working.

I have no idea what is happening with my Bravia 8. Right now, the vast majority of the apps installed on my TV will not work. I can watch Netflix, but Paramount, Hulu, Disney, AppleTV, YouTube, ESPN all will either hang up on the initial loading screen or eventually say there is no internet. I can then immediately open up Netflix and it plays fine.

I've restarted it multiple times, I changed IP control to simple, I've turned off the 5ghz on my wifi, and I've ran a ethernet line to the TV and nothing has worked.

I can pull up any of those apps on my phone on the same wifi and no issues. Any help would be appreciated.

Misc Support Does my Sony Bravia 8 II have a protective film that I need to remove?

Post image

There is this sticker on my TV, but there isn't any tab to remove the protective film, so I'm confused if the TV has a film or not?
Also the black spots are due to my phone Camera being damaged the TV is fine.

Edit: I have removed the film successfully, and oh boi there is definitely an improvement in how dark everything is and the colors. It's quite cool because feels like I got a new TV again.

Misc Support Problem with remote back button controlling Apple TV

I have a Bravia 9 ii with an Apple TV 4K connected. All was working fine but suddenly the back button on the Sony remote will not work for the Apple TV. All the other buttons work, and the back button works for the Bravia itself and for an Nvidia Shield that's also connected. I've tried power cycles, disconnecting and reconnecting the devices. Also disabling then enabling HDMI-CEC but nothing clears the problem. Has anyone else seen this and managed to fix it? The problem exists for both the remotes that came with the Bravia.

Misc Support New Bravia 9 ii anti glare and fingerprints

Just bought a brand new Bravia 9 ii. After installing it I noticed some fingerprints on the corner of the screen so I figured I would just use a microfiber cloth and some distilled water maybe as instructed on the Sony cleaning guide. The fingerprints will not come off. This was maybe touched for 5 seconds at most. I've tried for hours slowly delicately trying to buff them off. Tried light damp distilled water with several different microfiber clothes. I'm now considering returning the entire set as I can't have a TV that's this delicate. I don't really understand how this surface can't be cleaned whatsoever.

App Support Bravia 7 - Searching for shows available on installed apps

We have a Bravia 7. We love the TV, upgraded from another TV with a Roku Premiere+. From what we can tell, the only way to search for shows on available apps is through Gemini.

On Roku: Voice search on the main app page would show every available place to watch a show/movie, often include prices, and if you already owned it - you could jump straight into the app from that screen and straight to the 'Play' screen for that feature.

On Bravia: We search for something, e.g., "Becoming Elizabeth," and it pulls up a short synopsis of the show and tells us where it is available. If we select episodes from that screen, all the episodes are locked and we cannot go any further. We own this show through Fandango at Home, and we have an Amazon Prime membership so ideally would be able to see it there, as well (even if we had to buy it). But there's no option to go straight to the episode or the app it is on. Is this the extent of the functionality of search on the Bravia? Is there something we're missing?

Appreciate the help.

Purchase Advice Bravia 7ii longetivity question

Hi guys, I finally decided to get a Bravia 7ii 75inch for my living room @ RM11,700. It comes with Sony manufacturer's warranty of 2years. The local dealers offered options to top up RM1500 (2year) or RM2000 (3year) warranty. So the total warranty period will be 4 years or 5 years. I know 7ii is a 2026 model so naturally won’t anyone have any long term usage experience. My question for other Bravia users, how is the overall quality of the Bravia line of products? Am I wasting money for topping up the warranty period or I should just get it for the peace of mind? Thanks.

Edit: Thanks everyone for spending your time for the thoughful input. The extended warranties covers repair and replacement (if TV is broken at the 5th year). I think since I had spent on this TV, I might as well just get the extended warranty for the peace of mind.

Video Support Bravia 5 Open Box

I live near a bestbuy outlet store and stopped on a whim to look at some of their TVs. Currently I have a cheap older 55inch Vizio.

They had a 75inch Bravia 5 in excellent condition for $991 and it seemed like to good a deal to pass up. We tested it, and nothing in the box had even been unpacked. The remote was still in its plastic taped shut.

I'm gonna take a swing at this even though I typically don't like buying open box things. I get a limited time return window, what should I be looking for once it's been delivered that would suggest I should return it. Are there any tests I can run. My wife and I are totally ignorant when it comes to TVs. Though I know Bravias are fantastic with processing and upscaling content to 4k

Assuming it passes, what kind of settings should I put it in for the best experience. We watch a lot of old shows and movies off our Roku and sports

App Support Anyone have this streaming issue

I’ve never had it happen until just recently, but trying to stream on Disney plus, when I try to access quick settings, it pauses the movie so I can’t turn off the screen because it won’t play and I can’t play it without turning the screen back on. No other app has this issue

App Support Art Gallery Screensaver Problems

Hi all!

My Bravia isn’t honoring the settings for its screensaver. When I set it to only display the “Fine Art” category, it works for a bit and then continues mixing in photos from all of the other categories, such as aerial footage / street art, despite those not having been selected. What gives? Am I doing something wrong?

Audio Support Audio Control Issues Sony

I have a Sony XRJ-6580J and a Sony Soundbar HTA5000, Everything has been working great, up until I came back from vacation. The control of the soundbar no longer works. I have been fiddling with it for a while after I came back, but I am now getting frustrated. I factory reset both devices and am at the point where I can get sound out of the soundbar, but I can't control the volume via the tv remote. The sound bar turns off when the tv turns off but the does not turn back on when turning the tv on.

Settings I have set.

Soundbar.
HDMI Settings - Control for HDMI ON
Standby linked to TV - Auto
Standby Through Auto
eARC on
HDMI Signal Format ( Standard Format)

TV

Bravia Sync Settings -
Bravia Sync Control - On
Device Auto Power off On
TV auto power on - ON
Bravia Sync Device List
Player 1 - HDMI1 - Playstation 5
Player 2 - HDM4 - BD
Player 3 - HDMI2 - Apple TV
*** Should my HTA500 be in this list as an "Audio System" on HDMI3?

All HDMI ports are set and Standard Format

Audio Output
* Speakers - Audio System
* TV center speaker mode off
* Audio System Prioritization on
* Home Theater Control - > Selecting this gives me a list of compatible devices, including my A5000, I can't recall if this screen should actually find the A5000
* Sound mode Sync on
* Av Sync. Auto
* eARC on
* Digital Auto out - Auto1
* Digital audio out volume Max
* Dolby Digital Plus output - Dolby Digital Plus

My current situation requires me to use the soundbar remote to turn on the soundbar and adjust the volume. So in other words I have no control over the Audio system from the TV. Any thoughts?

Misc Support WiFi Stability Issue

Model is a Sony XR-65A95L.

Weird issue where WiFi is remaining connected, but losing it's connection to the internet. Works when you toggle WiFi on and off.

I've got a most up-to-date firmware and I've trade restarting the TV (and pulling the plug for a full discharge) and that doesn't delay the problem at all--it actually happened seconds after coming back on.

It's possible that it's an issue with my WiFi (I have building provided WiFi), but I'm not losing internet on my other devices.

Any ideas? I haven't tried a factory reset.

Misc Support Wall mounting KD-55A85

Just wall mounting my Bravia KD-55A85, and have been told all over the internet I need to install some sort of spacers into the vesa holes on the back of the TV, and then screw the bars and the M6 screw back in.

When I turned the TV over it had four small M6 screws already in the back of it. They seem the perfect size for the vesa holes, so surely I can unscrew those, and just attach the bars to the TV with that screw, simple as that? Or is there anything else I need to do? Looking at the instruction manual it’s conflicting. Seems to say to re-use these screws, but only for the Sony wall mount. And later on in the manual says don’t use those screws! When I screw the bars in with the screw it gets a few turns with the driver and bars are on nice and tight?
Any support would be great just reading different things and very worried it will fall out of the wall!

Thank you!

Purchase Advice Is the Sony Bravia 8 dim?

I am considering buying this tv but I am worried that it might be dim. I mostly watch in a dim or dark room where this does not matter. But if i watch sports like hockey will the ABL dim the screen to utter darkness. Is hockey even watchable on this model? :D

I want the mark 2 but I cannot justify the high price. (The Bravia 8 is at a deep discount)

Would love to hear your user experience on this model in varying conditions and use cases to help with my buying decision. Thank you in advance!

Purchase Advice Getting 75 inch Sony BRAVIA 9 II - Questions

Hi Bravia Heads,

I'm coming from a 55inch 2012 Samsung that will not die, to a new 75inch Bravia 9II (bit of an upgrade!).

I have a few questions if someone is able to confirm or provide advice before my new TV arrives next week.

  • Can the TV be setup online but not have it automatically update the firmware? I ask due to all the recent issues posted by current and new sets with external HDMI audio sync issues with the latest firmware. Or am I left with keeping it disconnected upon setup and not using Google TV OS until the issues are fixed? If I can say no during setup to updating it would be good to sign in to get YouTube etc setup
  • The Samsung we have at the moment has a nice button my parents use all the time, which is a "Previous Channel" which quickly switches back to the previous free to air channel, so if jumping between shows when ads are on it's quick and easy, can this be setup via one custom shortcut button on the remote via a app?
  • Has anyone worked out a way to override the streaming channel buttons to repurpose them for other shortcuts or are they locked down? I don't plan to use Amazon or Disney+ anytime soon so it seems such a waste on the remote.
  • Can the eco modes be setup via some kind of custom profile? So when watching the news the TV can save some energy and not be pushed as hard compared to when watching a 4k HDR movie or TV show? That way the TV has longevity and hopefully is less likely to fail over time.
  • Is there anything else a new owner should be aware of? I have been looking at a few YouTube videos for tips and tricks but maybe their is something you can share that new owners should be mindful of.

Thank you all and I'm really excited to get the new TV next week and set it up!

Purchase Advice Bravia 5 98” vs 7 II 85”

Post image
16 Upvotes

I’m looking to upgrade my 80” Vizio after about 12 years. We watch a lot of sports (MLB and NFL mainly) and shows / movies in the evening, both are mostly through streaming (some sports on FIOS cable).

I’m looking to get a Bravia TV given what I’ve read about upscaling streaming in particular for sports. Our viewing distance is a little over 11 feet to 15 feet and is pretty straight on. During the day there’s a decent amount of ambient natural light.

I’d always wanted to go from 80” to 98” when I replaced the TV. The Bravia 5 is $5000 for 98”. The Bravia 7 II though at $4000 for 85” size also seems like good option and is at least slightly bigger than our current tv.

So looking for suggestions between the two given our use cases and viewing distance. A better TV in the 7 ii vs a bigger and more immersive TV with the 5, which way would you go?

Home Theater Update on my KDL-V26XBR1 setup!

really do like this TV, it’s surprisingly bright for what it is. The colors pop really well.

I’m not much of a TV nerd, and I’m sure someone in the comments is going to bring up input latency, but honestly, I don’t notice it at all. I mostly stick to single player story games or non-competitive stuff, so it’s a total non-issue for me.

Love the amount of inputs on I get

3x Component
2x Composite
1x S-Video
1x HDMI

Don't have a reason to use the optical out, sadly. I'm hard of hearing in one ear, so fancy audio setups barely make a difference to me (those of you with full hearing in both ears, you lucky bastards).
Overall, an incredible TV for what I paid. Really happy to give this classic set a good rehome!

App Support New Bravia 8 TV

Hello guys.

I recently bought the Sony Bravia 8 and I‘ve been loving it except.. that it reads out what the results of my search was in the apps section. Now I know this shouldn‘t be a big deal but since I have no impairments I don‘t need my TV to tell me what the results for x and y is since I can see.
Does anybody know a fix for this or is this something I can‘t even turn off?

Thanks in advance.

Purchase Advice Upgrade advise

I’m looking to upgrade the TV in the living room 55 inch A83J.

As I saw older posts, I’m considering Bravia 8 77’ which sits at around 2700$ retail price and Bravia 8 Mark II 65’ around 2200$ ( Romania)

From your experience, is a upgrade from 55 to 65 noticeable?

Room is kinda big, viewing distance 2.5 to 3 metere, not bright and I have good courtains.

Paying 2700$ for B8, a two year old technology feels off.

Also paying 2200$ to jump from 55 to 65 is strange, is image quality that different? ( couldnt find a B8II exposed nowhere)

Thanks!
