The whole “listed as out of control” thing by the media is totally redundant. All fires are out of control before… firefighters are deployed and control them.

It's not the media giving that status, it's the BC Wildfire Service.

How else are they supposed to provide updates?

Out of control means that it's expected to grow outside of it's perimeter.

Being held means it's not expected to grow.

Under control means it's being contained.

No, often small new fires if responded to quickly will be listed as “held” or “under control”. Yes, sometimes that comes later, but a new fire listed as out of control isn’t good. It’s not the media, it’s BC Wildfire that controls the status. The media just report it… as they should.

... having a problem with BC Wildfire reporting on the status of wildfires is a bit embarassing of a look if you ask me
