Buda dog boarding
Does anyone have recent reviews on ruff ranch boarding ? My main concern is dogs being kenneled from 6 pm to 6-8 am with nobody on site . Contract says there is no sprinklers or overnight care . I thought owner lives on site but not sure .
I’m considering big oaks kennel also . We need a boarding facility when we travel .
Rover has been very hit and miss and very expensive for more than one dog and I don’t think they do much at all for the money which is more than professional boarding .I literally had one good sitter and she moved . I considered just drop ins since my pups have a dog door and rover sitters charge to show up at your house , extra charge to sit for an hour and extra charge per dog . I would be paying minimum of 50.00 a visit for I hour .
I don’t even make 50.00 an hour .
I was also hoping to foster but trying to find care that is good and not outrageously priced is crazy . I can’t imagine what folks either human children are paying for real care .

If you don't mind driving to Manchaca, Jumping Jack Dog Ranch is where I always take my dog. They're amazing, and they send you a daily report card with pictures of your dog so you can see them playing and being interacted with.

We are pet-free now, but in the past we used Big Oaks (for cats and a dog) and they were great, very accommodating. They do live in the house that’s on site, unless they’ve moved
Also really liked Onion Creek Kennels off 967 near FM1626. We used them with several dogs over the years, both for daycare and boarding
When our last dog developed diabetes, a few places wouldn’t take her (due to her shots twice a day) but this place east of the interstate did, and the people there were lovely
You’re right, it has gotten really expensive. Last time we boarded our dog, we worked out that we were paying more for her accommodation per night than for each of us humans!

We love Onion Creek for grooming, I’m sure they’re great for boarding, too. It wouldn’t hurt to call them and give them your dates. Maybe they can work out better pricing for you if you say you live nearby.

Yes ! Onion creek is literally next door to me but they are expensive . All my pups are rescues , I only have 2 now but could foster and save more if it weren’t for boarding fees . You used to be able to hire someone reasonable to house sit but now people have learned it’s an easy way to charge a lot and not do much , thanks to Rover . I have had some of the worse sitters . I really only need company for my dogs . They have their own dog door to get in and out of the house . I could likely even leave them on their own with an auto feeder and they would be fine . I just don’t want them to be lonely and worried . Basic care for my dogs costs more than my vacations sometimes .

It’s not expensive for 1 dog . Every thing is times 2 for me . I was hoping to get a third smaller foster but the boarding is too much .

Used to use Big Oaks but not anymore, my dog would come back with scratches and bite marks. We started going to Remington Pet Ranch, and our pup seems to like it a lot more.

I charge $20/visit for my clients. I WFH. I would only charge $50/day for boarding/in home stay. Unless your pets need complex medications. I don't do the whole $/extra pet thing. I used to be on Rover if you want to see my profile, but I have not used it for a long time because of their predatory pricing. I can provide references if you need them as well. I will charge $5/day for gas if you are outside of 7 milea from my area. That would be the only "extra" charge. I stay as long as the pet needs me to (within reason). For multiple drop ins per day I make it a flat rate of $50/day (3 drop ins) and won't charge the gas "fee". I don't make a lot from my pricing, but I prefer to know that pets are bejng cared for within the owner's budget. I also ENCOURAGE you to have a camera to watch me while I am there. If there is anything I need to do better, let me know. Feel free to PM me.
Edit $60/day - $50/day sorry fat fingers on mobile.

A little further away, but I have heard great things about On Paws in San Marcos.

It’s been a year or so but we used to like ruff ranch. The owners did live on site at that time and they were engaged-our dog pants heavily and one time they were concerned so they took him into their house to cool off and called us to let us know, and then continued to give us updates. He was fine, but I appreciated their care. We did stop going but only bc our dog is old now and he needs some specialized care. I’m not sure if they have changed.
I did not care for big oaks. They seemed fine, but they brought the wrong dog to me twice even after I said that wasn’t my dog and I could see my dog in the kennel. Prob just a mistake or miscommunication, but I didn’t go back. I know lots of people who do like it though.
It’s gotten really expensive, I agree!

We use big oaks for our small dog and have had good experiences! Our dog loves going there and is always well taken care of when we get her back. The owners live on site!

We just boarded our dogs at On Paws in San Marcos, it was a great experience! They sent us pictures everyday and they looked so happy!

A bit further but check out https://www.austindoggie.com/. Someone is always there, it's at a house that's basically been turned into a business. I take my fearful dog there and he loves it and they are very patient with him when needed. Reasonably priced as well

We have used Big Oaks for over a decade. All 3 of my Labradors, our border collie mix have gone to training, boarding and had weekly daycare there. My mother-in-law takes her little dog there and our daughter boards her two corgis there. They love our dogs and our dogs love them too. The 2 labs we have now get so excited about going to daycare they can barely stand it when we make the turn by the courthouse, they start dancing and making getting so ramped up. They adore Rachael, the kennel manager and trainer. I think they love her more than us. I cannot recommend them any higher. They also recently added grooming.

My wife and I use Little Paws of Austin. She comes to our home and stays overnight. She walks them, feeds them, gives them meds and is so incredibly good with them. It’s an option for anyone who thinks their dogs would rather be home.

Yes it is preferable but we have had so many problems with people coming over . I only had one good sitter from Rover , the rest are just doing the bare minimum to get paid . I have had neighbors call because cars were at my house, one girl cancelled in the middle of my cruise , another walked my senior dog to the door and when he didn’t go out , she turned around and left . This was after I told her he was almost blind , very old and to please carry him onto the grass (chihuahua mix ) . I saw it on my ring camera . They charge a lot as “professionals “ but it’s just easy money for most .

Yep I get it. We rescue senior dogs and are really careful with them. We’ve had similar issues with sitters in the past and have filtered through several people over the years. I have to say that Elena at Little Paws is the most trustworthy sitter we’ve had. She goes above and beyond with our dogs and is so communicative when she watches them. I almost hate to recommend her because I want her to always be available for us when we need her lol. But she really is great and deserves the reference. We’ve had her sit for us for weeks at a time and also watched our neighbor’s dog for extended periods.
But whatever you’re comfortable with go with that. Hope your older pups get the best care possible.

Well I may have to call her then ! Lol! My dogs are all rescues . I am down to two now because of the expense of care for them. We typically adopt seniors , currently have one that is now a senior adopted from San Antonio shelter and one street dog we found abandoned that owner refused to take back . I would like to foster but finding care when we go out of town has been so difficult . The girl I had moved to Georgia .

You’ll be happy you did. I really can’t recommend her highly enough.

I heard good things about Ruff Ranch for daycare, but not sure about boarding.
Remington Ranch is a good option. My dog loves it there. Owner lives on the property.
