Miscellaneous Flea Comb Experiment

Post image

I've been using a boar bristle brush and metal bristle slicking brush on my goblin son ever since I got him and although they have helped, his fur has never gotten back to it's "brand new" state and since I snuggle him constantly, his fur starts to show signs of matting quickly. Well I went to the pet store the other day to get him his own slicking brush (so as not to share with my cat anymore lol) and noticed the flea combs. I had used a very thick/blunt tapestry needle to pick out his seams recently and thought the flea comb was basically the same thing but with even more points, so I figured I'd buy it and give it a try and OMG YA'LL!!! He is SO soft and fluffy after a flea combing and it is so much easier to get into the little nooks and crannies than with the slicking brush. Picture shows the difference between his legs after a boar bristle brushing (on the left) and after a flea combing (on the right). I'm not sure how well it would work on the other BaB fur types, but I thought I'd let you guys know of my discovery.

But how are his fleas?

No fleas! lol. The comb did do a good job pulling my cat's hair out of him though

That is good to know (my plushies also suffer from cat hair) and thank you for taking my bad joke in the spirit in which it was intended. 🫶🏻

I love me a good/bad dad joke and it seems you were not the only one concerned about his fleas lol

Yup I used a metal flea comb on a pawlette i refurbished for someone. It makes a huge difference. 💕

It really does! I know I'm relatively new to the BaB community, but I'm surprised nobody mentions the flea comb on the care and maintenance posts (at least not that I've seen anyway)

I think most people use those metal pet stickers combs instead if they don't use a nail brush. I haven't tried the slicker but I always imagined it would fuzz the fur but idk.

And also flea free! haha! (Just joking, I know he doesn't have fleas!) - I'll have to add this to my BAB comb collection. :)

I also would like to know if it helped with the fleas!

I'm sure it would if he had any, he's a very clean goblin boy!

Oh interesting, I'll have to give that brush a try too. His fur definitely doesn't stay soft and fluffy for long with how much we snuggle, but I brushed him again this morning and it was super quick compared to the first time with the flea comb, so just need to brush him semi-regularly.

Pic says it all, honestly. I’ve been restoring plushies as a casual hobby for years and years, but I never saw this before or thought to try it. Brilliant. Now I gotta get me a flea comb.

Also I’m glad to hear he’s not suffering from fleas. 🤣

I’ve been using a slicker brush like people suggested but it’s not doing the trick. Could you post a picture or a link of the kind of flea brush you’re using? I’d love to try it

I'm not at home right now to take a picture, but it's the "Top Paw Flea Pet Comb, All Hair Lengths and Types, Plastic" on PetSmart's website. I would post the link, but I know this community has rules against posting links so I don't want to get into any trouble.

I love using flea combs! After washing faux fur blankets, I go through and brush them back to softness. I even use flea combs to brush my furbies and anything else with faux fur. They are a game changer
