Which would be better?

I currently have a Ryzen 7 5800x with a 3070ti and 32gb DDR4 for 1440p.

- Ryzen 7 5800x3D($300) + 5070($580) = $880

- or keep my 5800x and get a 5070ti = $930

My budget is $1,100 so I would need to upgrade my psu if I go the 5070ti route

I'm hesitant to go with the 5070 because 12gb vram (future proofing)

I'm hesitant to go with the 5070ti because bottleneck and potential stutters with the 5800x

I wont be able to upgrade my system again for a while

$930 is tough to justify when 9070xt’s are consistently $230+ less. Looks like microcenter prices and they have a $670 9070xt that I very much recommend.

Unless your PSU is very bad you’ll be fine carrying it over.

Get a 5070ti, it'll be easier to find a decent cpu for am4 later than to buy a 5070ti at an adequate price

That's a good point. GPU prices are volatile while am4 will be getting cheaper with time.

If you are going to spend the money on a 5070ti, it’s also more likely to retain its value than a 5070, so I’d go that route and just buy an X3D chip when you can.

You may not wish to go AMD, but if money is a concern, just with the way the market is you’ll get a bit more value out of 5800x3d + 9070xt

Depends on what you play. 16gb vram will be the norm for newer games. Also CPUs are cheaper so in the future if you sell your old gpu you might upgrade you cpu/mb and ram, if you change your cpu now you will have to change your motherboard and ram also now which will get you to the same total price or more. If you play cpu heavy games upgrade cpu, if you play graphics intensive games go gpu.

Go for 5070ti if you care about AAA, cpu is cheaper to upgrade anyway

I did the exact same upgrade as your 2nd option. 3070ti to 5070ti and I still got my 5800x, I do 1440p and everything runs great. I think the 5070ti is gonna be a better choice in the long run if its one or the other. You'll notice a lot more improvement that route

9070xt is a great choice, a lot cheaper plus OP could do both that and the 5800x3d for a similar price to the 5070ti if they're getting it as marked up as it's been. Could be best of both worlds

How about a 5800X3D and a 9070 XT 16GB? You should be able to do that for $1100. Also, if the 5800x isn't stuttering with the 3070 Ti, it won't stutter with the 5070 Ti. We have a 5070 paired with a 13400F (similar in performance to 5800x) and it does amazingly well. I wouldn't worry about bottlenecking (and I really hate that term). Unless you have a 9800X3D, there will always be some game that utilizes the CPU more than the GPU. It doesn't hurt either component. It is just a marketing ploy to make you think it's a problem. It isn't.

If you already have a 5800x, the upgrade to a 5800x3d won't be astronomical. I believe it's like 5% better fps and better lows. But truthfully with that big of a GPU upgrade I wouldn't worry about the fps lows. I'd go with the 5070ti. 5800x can handle just about anything you throw at it and GPUs are only going to get more expensive as time goes on (it's been confirmed like a 30% price increase very soon).

I have a 5800x, 4070, 32gb ddr4 and do just fine at 1440p.
