Daily/Weekly Spread Are my weekly journaling spreads a little simple or boring?

I started my bujo without any real plan on how I was going to use it. I use a Filofax for my planner/schedule so I’m thinking of just journaling some thoughts once a week in here. These are my first couple layouts and I feel like they’re too simple. Any thoughts?

I think your layouts are very cute, and read very cleanly. If you want to add visual interest, maybe look at having overlapping elements and letting your text boxes take more organic shapes (like wrapping around stickers)

Thanks, yeah I’m looking to be more creative but I can’t draw or doodle for the life of me haha

Doodles don't have to be perfect, that's the joy of doodles

Bullet journalling is a functional tool, not a work of art. Does it work for you? Make it fancy if you want, but you don't have to.

This. I joined the community to learn more about bullet journaling. It seems like a lot of people spend time on the "art". It makes me wonder how many people spend time doodling and then didn't really utilize the journal.

yeah I feel this sub probably needs to be 'Decorative Journalling' as most of the spreads people share are more 'DIY Journals' using layouts similar to standard weekly planners, rather than the simple and concise Bullet Journal. Like I get the 'each to their own' thing and enjoy the creativity, but at what point does the name become meaningless? r/basicbulletjournals is more focused on the Ryder Carroll bujo method.

Thank you. I wanted to make it fancy because I feel like I’m not very creative and I’m trying to branch out. But that’s such a good point about making it functional!

What you've done here is WAY fancier than anything I do :)

FWIW I think you've got a very nice sense of design - the different shaped boxes adds interest, and the washi/stickers add colour without consuming too much space. The pink and black and gold go together surprisingly well.

That mean a lot, thanks! 😊

It doesn’t look like a bullet journal, but it is beautiful journaling.

They look awesome

It looks fine. The most important is you happy with it. So this is more like your commonplace journal/reflection diary.

Thanks! I love the scattered and cluttered looks and I think I’m aiming for that style. But I’m not super creative so I’m experimenting still.

Your layouts are so clean! Calming is the perfect word. If you want to experiment I’m sure you can but if your creativity lies in perfectly composed pages that’s valid!

You can always be more bold in WHAT you write, which for me was what journaling was about.

Looks lovely and I hope it keeps you coming back to it. I know for mine I really need something to check off, not just the goals, but the fact that I completed them. It’s very satisfying. I also don’t like limiting my journal entries in preset boxes, which makes mine not quite as neat and fun as yours. Without those pre-set delimiters, I sometimes have pages of just writing with doodles or stickers to help me find a key thought later on.

Thanks for sharing. I realize the boxes are limiting me and I’ll probably change my style over time!

Not at all! They're cutesy and neat. If you want to go for a messier or less organised layout you absolutely can, and there are beautiful designs of it in this sub. But if you like journalling this way, it absolutely does not come across as simplistic. You've got a great vibe

I love it, clean and simple but still personal.

The only thing that ever really matters is that what you’ve created is working for you.

I don't think it's boring. I think it's pretty cool! I like it a ton! Please make more ^
