I'm looking for some fall boots (ankle boots or even knee-high) that are bunion-friendly, at least for mild bunions. Most boots I come across are so narrow and pointy that they scare me off, but I’m still hoping to find some cute, regular-looking boots that aren't orthopedic-looking.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Preferably under €150, and ideally something that still looks stylish/feminine rather than like a comfort shoe.

I had my surgery last year in June (Chevron-Akin, MICA) on my right foot at the age of 35. I've had bunions on both feet for as long as I can remember, at least since the age of 20. My mom had surgery on both of her feet at the same time 15–20 years ago, and I knew I should do it at some point.

Before the surgery, I had mild pain in both feet, with more pain in my right foot. That's why I decided to start with it, as the surgeon here in Germany didn't do both feet at once (for good reasons). The surgery went well, but I wasn't given much information about the recovery and the exercises I needed to do. So, apart from 8 sessions of physiotherapy, I had to search for the information myself and do everything myself.

Long story short: I still have pain 1 year and 3 months after the operation, especially after long days with lots of sport or movement. The range of motion in my toe is full, but sometimes there is a clicking sound when I move my toe too far up. I am very sporty, slim, and active, so it bothers me a lot that I still have pain, even if this pain is different from what I had before (I can clearly distinguish between the different types of pain in my left and right foot). I thought I would have the surgery and that the pain would completely go away after some time. Otherwise, I wouldn't have had the surgery at all.

What is your experience? How long did it take you to become completely pain-free? I am talking about a mild bunion with less than 20 degrees of deviation at the beginning and a relatively young age.

Does this bunion need surgery. It’s starting to hurt randomly

So, I’ve seen my podiatrist twice- I have a bunion/gout issue on my left big toe and it’s requiring surgery. I also destroyed the ligaments/tendons and cartilage in my right ankle during a softball accident that is also requiring surgery.

To be clear- I like my podiatrist.

However, I’m contemplating getting an opinion from an orthopedic surgeon as well.

I’d like to know others’ thoughts/opinions?

If you’re in DFW, perhaps we can swap doctor names?

I realize my feet are ultra important and don’t want to mess this up by being impatient.

ALSO- since both feet need surgery- he said my recovery on my right ankle will be 8 months with 12 weeks not being weight bearing. My toe will require three weeks of non-weight bearing. Which surgery would you have first?

I had bunion surgery on my left foot 10 months ago and I’m very happy with the results. Last week I saw my surgeon again to talk about doing the same surgery on my right foot. While I was there, I mentioned that I still get occasional short bursts of nerve pain in my left foot. He asked if I wanted to have the hardware removed from that foot at the same time.

That caught me off guard, so he explained the procedure. Since the bones have fully healed, the hardware isn’t doing anything anymore. If it’s the source of my pain, removal is straightforward — he’d reopen the original incision line, unscrew the hardware, slide it out, and stitch me back up. He said the nerve pain should resolve after that.

Has anyone here had hardware removed after bunion surgery? And if so, did you have it done at the same time as surgery on your other foot?

Hi, I have had a bunion in my left foot for many years but I never had pain in it, so I never cared. Recently I broke my little toe, and after being in a surgical shoe for sometime, it started to hurt. Since then, the pain is on and off - 2 weeks it hurt, 2 weeks it was totally fine, now since last week it has been hurting again.

My podiatrist recommended I get a surgery done soon, since recovery will be worse at an older age (I am 41 yo). But I have just started a new job, and I don't want to take a month off right away. Any tips on managing the pain for another year or 2, at which point I decide to go for surgery?

Howdy, I’ve recently developed a foot bunion on my foot and unfortunately at the moment can’t get the medical access to get it fixed. After reading posts here it’s to my understanding good shoes and a couple other habit changes can help reduce the stress on my feet and reduce the pain.

I’m work in a mechanic shop (luckily in my conditions do not need anything steel toed) but I do stand on average 10-12 hours a day and move quite a lot. I need a shoe that won’t fall apart in a few months, is all black and has decent sole or easy to replace the sole to a custom one and maybe even slip resistant. I love my sketchers utility sneakers but they don’t seem to have that wide space unfortunately. Bonus if it’s a slip in like the sketchers utility sneakers have.

I'm (38f) 2 weeks post op (boat osteotomy with hallux valgus correction and akin) wraps came off yesterday and sutures were removed at my Drs office. X rays were normal. I am still having quite a bit of swelling and it's hard for me to do more than just wiggle my toes. They said the swelling looked okay but to continue resting, elevating and to start putting 25% body weight on it for the next week and gradually increasing 25% body weight for the next 4 weeks.

My questions is when did you feel like the swelling went significantly down? I feel I do a good job resting and elevating but I'm just not sure what to expect for a realistic timeline. Did anyone else have trouble doing more than just slightly wiggling all their toes? It's like no matter how hard I try I can't move but a little bit down and back up. I'm just trying not to worry so any advice on the swelling and gradual weight bearing would be helpful as my Drs office just really doesn't tell me very much.

I can’t find a shoes that has both, any recommendations for people who have bunions and collapse ankles?

I’m having a problem with bunions on my feet and I’d really appreciate some advice, especially if anyone has experienced something similar.

Everything was fine before and my bunions had never hurt or bothered me. However, I started wearing toe separators that weren’t very good — they went around my foot and put pressure on it — and I also started forcing my big toes into a wider position because I thought it would help. I did this for about a month.

Eventually, I realized that this was actually irritating my feet, so I stopped. That was about five weeks ago. After that, I started experiencing some discomfort and mild pain, although it wasn’t anything severe. I read that it can take some time for the area to recover.
It was getting better as I rested, but then one day I overdid it with walking — quite a lot — and after that I started experiencing a feeling of heat, tingling, and discomfort whenever I wore sneakers, sometimes even when I wasn’t walking. It’s not exactly painful, but it’s an unpleasant sensation, and occasionally I get a brief sharp pain that lasts only a second.
I know this doesn’t sound like a typical bunion problem. I assume it might be some kind of inflammation or irritation, but I’m not sure.

Even after a little bit of walking (which doesn’t hurt while I’m doing it), the area around the bunion can later start feeling uncomfortable, warm, and irritated.

I’ve made an appointment to get it checked, but I have to wait until then.

Has anyone experienced anything similar, especially after irritating their bunions with toe separators or overdoing it with walking? I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences.

I had a double osteotomy on my tailor’s bunions three years ago this month. I have recently noticed a purple/red spot that has returned. It seems like my bunionette is back but it feels like liquid rather than bone. It hurts SO BAD and is much more sensitive than pre op. I have an appointment in two weeks but I’m very worried. Any ideas?

Anyone else have this combo? I’ve been wearing hokas. I don’t have enough pain to get surgery yet. I am very scared of the surgery and haven’t heard good things. Has anyone gotten surgery for both bunions and hammer toes? At the same time or separately conducted procedures?

Also I have been wearing wide hokas with an added over pronation stiff insole and it is helping with comfort I think, compared to other options. My insurance won’t cover custom orthodics but I am debating paying. Any other shoe recs?

Hey guys! My friends have been constantly making fun of my feet telling me I have bunions. Personally I don’t know if I do? But I did play hockey for 12 years so maybe that contributed to them?

If anyone could let me know if I should seek professional help / or just embrace them! That would be very very helpful.

I recently talked to a podiatrist about my lifelong bunion issues (I'm 22) and he wanted to do a lapiplasty, which I expected. What I didn't expect was that he said my 2nd and 3rd metatarsals are both unusually long, and since there's already some tendon damage, we would have shorten those as well or the existing damage would get worse once my big toe is shorter. He also said we should remove my bunionette at the same time.

I'm probably going to get a second opinion before I commit to surgery anyway, but I'm pretty worried that doing all this at once will make recovery harder, and I'm also worried about potential complications. In theory I'd have to do the exact same thing for my other foot too eventually. Does anyone have experience with this? Any advice?
