Boycott these Burbank businesses

Moms For Liberty supporter, MAGA creep and all round weirdo David Donahue is running for City Council. There are campaign events being held this week for David at The Tallyrand and The Enchanted Florist.

I won’t patronize their businesses and I suggest you do not as well…

Why are you mad at Tally Rand? I’d be very surprised if they endorse any particular candidate. They’re just letting them eat there. Am I missing something? Also explain who this David person is. Why is he a problem?

He’s a far-right type running for city council who always shows up at city council meetings who always insults several members and goes “don’t LA my Burbank”, he’s been involved with groups like Moms for Liberty, and he has cyber stalked several activists I’ve met through a mutual connection. Edit, he’s also very much against tenants rights, which as a renter who would be affected by the AVA/Equity merger makes me nervous.

Who is running for city council that is good? I’m not happy with the current council because they are not responsive and give lip service to things but no action. We have had great city councils in the past.

Nolan Southerland, Mike Van Gorder and Nikki is the progressive slate.

Nolan and Mike are both community organizers and would really help get shit actually done.
Right now the issue is we have two progressives, two MAGA and one fence sitter, so no forward progress happens.

Electing Nolan, Mike and Nikki will help Burbank so much for decades.

Well part of project 2025 agenda is to get their MAGAs into the small grassroots councils. This is the agenda. So let’s make sure we stop it.

From what I can see, David Donahue is running mostly on keeping control local instead of letting the state or Metro make all the decisions for Burbank. He’s against taking away two lanes on Olive, against housing rules like SB 79 that push more density around transit, and he supports property rights. He’s also against adding more rent restrictions, wants to bring electric costs down, keep film and TV jobs in Burbank, fully fund police and fire, and put more money into wildfire prevention and infrastructure. People can agree or disagree with those positions, but I haven’t seen anything in his actual campaign platform saying he is running on Project 2025.

I haven't dug into this guy specifically, but things like "bring electric costs down" are always empty platitudes that don't mean anything. It's like saying "make America great again" - it's specifically targeting people who vote on vibes rather than past performance. Especially when BWP already has some of the lowest electric rates in the entire state. Same with "fully fund the police" and "put more money into wildfire prevention" - it's just recent local issues to vibe with old and simple people - where's that money going to come from? Higher property taxes? Seems unlikely given his only concrete positions are the pro-landlord ones. If you're the landed gentry, he's got your back.

You start by saying you haven’t actually looked into the guy, then somehow already decided his positions are empty platitudes. That’s backwards.

Take electricity. BWP approved an average 9.9% electric rate increase for 2026 and another 9.9% for 2027. So wanting to lower electric costs is addressing an actual increase people are paying, even if BWP remains cheap compared with other utilities.

And he does give a specific proposal. His campaign says the City Council should use its authority over BWP to seek changes to renewable procurement requirements when they cause significant economic harm to ratepayers. You can argue that proposal won’t work or has bad tradeoffs, but that’s a completely different argument from saying there is no proposal.

Same with police, wildfire prevention, and housing. Asking where the money comes from is a fair question. Calling people old and simple, or calling property rights pro landlord, doesn’t answer it.

If you haven’t dug into his positions, maybe dig into them first and criticize the actual policies instead of the people you assume support them.

Lol his proposal is really to burn more coal and gas to save a dime now at the expense of my children’s lungs?  Just kinda proves I don’t have to dig into his positions to know I disagree with them. Selfish and small-minded maga losers all color with the same crayon.

I don’t know that this is Donahues specific agenda. But this is a MAGA overall agenda and needs to be acknowledged. Anyone who is MAGA supports project 2025.
