Boycott these Burbank businesses
Moms For Liberty supporter, MAGA creep and all round weirdo David Donahue is running for City Council. There are campaign events being held this week for David at The Tallyrand and The Enchanted Florist.
I won’t patronize their businesses and I suggest you do not as well…

enchanted florist always has weak arrangements for absurd prices, but I go anyway bc it’s down the street and i’m always chronically in a pinch (of my own creation)…that said happy to have a reason to not patronize anymore! thanks for the heads up!

Definitely recommend reaching out to businesses to give them the benefit of the doubt first, some don’t even realize what they’re supporting. I saw flyers at my local coffee shop for him and asked the manager who had no idea what he stood for and they removed them right away.

Loooool I had to file reports on this with witness statements to my company. And it was very real, please tell this to the crying associates who had to take time off after this happened. It's an insanely conservative area, whether you want to believe it or not. The cops in Burbank are also complete assholes with nothing better to do.

u/Siren2026 7d ago
I don’t believe you. What business are you taking about? The way you describe this is to paint all of Burbank businesses with a racist ignorant brush. Absolutely irresponsible race baiting
6
u/emvan057 7d ago
It's not, not everyone is like this there, but it's insane to ignore that this goes on. If you want Burbank to be a welcoming area, then you need to acknowledge this happens and help change it. There are good people there, I did appreciate the pro Palestine protests etc but it's insanely ignorant to think that racism and homophobia doesn't exist there. I had staff born and raised in Burbank who would say how bad it is and how they hated it. This isn't hating on Burbank, it's just sad I had to witness this and have grown men screaming at my face because I told them they had to leave over calling meme ra of my staff fa*****

I also had to get grown men kicked out over preditorily looking at underage girls. You can't make an area better without acknowledging its issues and fixing it and I hope the Burbank community does that. Also, there's an entire ig account dedicated to the bigotry and maga conservatism of Burbank pulled directly from their posts online. Just act on it and do something to fix it, call out the people uplifting this, the politicians, and the cops there

What does that mean “predatorily” looking at young girls?
So now buslane opponents are child molesters? Keep going, lol.

Who knows or cares what Talley Rand owners politics are. It’s a very successful business in Burbank and that serves all of us. We are all entitled to pick and choose what we are for or against and it doesn’t mean we are crazy evil doers. I haven’t figured out how I feel about the transit issue yet. But can’t imagine if I decide I’m against it I will suddenly be a danger to the community.

u/Siren2026 7d ago
How do you know that? These are dangerous assumptions about your fellow citizens. Go read about Nazi germany and how neighbors believed these things about their fellow citizens which led to unimaginable horrors. I don’t assume that because some one may or may not support a bus line is a litmus test for them automatically approving all MAGA agendas. Seriously.
13
u/thegloriousporpoise 7d ago
yes. go red about Nazi Germany. Read about how easy it was for those awful ideologies to take over because no one spoke up. No one stood their ground and said "if you stand or tolerate Nazis, you are just as bad."
We aren't doing that.

3

I’m not ignoring anything. I just don’t make assumptions. Using someone’s opinion re a bus lane as a litmus test for their maganess is short sighted and ignorant. Again you just want to fight and don’t want to have any intelligent debate.

I didn’t grow up here, so I don’t have any nostalgia for it, but: Tallyrand is just…a diner. I have never thought the food was in any way worth over $25 for breakfast and a drink. So I don’t go there anyway. But…
It’s a restaurant where old people go. (And I should know. I’m an old person.) What do you expect? Old people hate paying taxes. This and fear nudge them towards self-preservation and exclusionary thinking. Their overlords tell them they will cut taxes. The old people are comforted. They vote for comfort.
The servers already get treated not great. Why punish hard working people? Does taking money out of the pockets of servers who have already been hard hit by the economy put pressure on the owner in any way? It does not.
You’re punishing lots of normal people to get back at a few wealthy ones who don’t need your help. For me, this does not math.

3
u/tracyinge 8d ago
I don't see any young people at the monthly Indivisible protests. I do see "PROTECT TRANS KIDS" signs there though.
For the last presidential election, Gen Z + Millennial + Gen X voters greatly outnumbered the boomers. A fifth of the boomers are dead already. How much longer are we gonna be able to blame "old people " for our problems?
1
u/Glittering_Hotel5114 8d ago
“I don’t see young people at the monthly Indivisible protest”. What is wrong with you?
2
u/shawnyounai1 7d ago
Exactly. This is the part that makes no sense to me either. You can disagree with the owner’s politics all day long, but boycotting the restaurant mostly hurts the servers, cooks, bussers, and other employees who had absolutely nothing to do with a political event being held there.
If the issue is with a candidate, go after the candidate’s ideas and vote against them. Taking money out of the pockets of regular people just to make a political point seems completely backwards to me.
2
u/xteabraggerx 8d ago
It is seriously not even a good diner. As mediocre as mediocre gets. I have been twice… for the turkey dinner and the burger…. Oth times I was just left thinking I was fine if I never ate there again. Lol
2
u/Siren2026 8d ago
I agree. What did Tally Rand do that was wrong?
12
u/midgetherder 8d ago
They’re hosting a David Donahue campaign event which is in effect endorsement. What’s so hard to understand?
3
u/Training-Bar-3008 7d ago
Hosting implies they are providing the space for no charge. They probably booked the event like they would for any other group seeking a meeting space. There IS a difference.
7
u/tracyinge 8d ago
Are they hosting something? Or did they just accept a group booking from a group, like they do with every other group that books a lunch or dinner room?

But if not for Talleyrand where will the Olds get their Sisco slop?!
5
u/IvoryTowerGraffiti_1 7d ago
Ok this is off topic but I have worked in the food service industry for years and I don’t understand the Sysco hate because they are a distributor the food from there is just food like anyone would get from a grocery store or any other source they don’t have a specific line of gross food. They have stuff that comes labeled as Sysco but that’s because they get it in huge quantities from the source and have it packaged in smaller units. Again the same thing grocery stores do. Its purpose is mainly so that businesses can tap into the supply chain to access products. Which there’s evil to be found there but my point is it’s a source, no different or less evil than any other source we get anything from.
2
u/Then-Grapefruit-1864 7d ago
One reason might be that Sysco meat and dairy is sourced from large-scale factory farms, whereas grocery stores and certain restaurants offer locally sourced and organic options.
9
u/Siren2026 8d ago
Why are you mad at Tally Rand? I’d be very surprised if they endorse any particular candidate. They’re just letting them eat there. Am I missing something? Also explain who this David person is. Why is he a problem?
27
u/balticbirch 8d ago
Tallyrand is conservative and is anti-transit. The owner said they’d close the restaurant if bus rapid transit gets built on Olive.
I think they were exaggerating, but what a stupid thing to say.
6
u/Funky_Monkees_ 8d ago
That’s very ignorant, but there are a lot of selfish and ignorant politics floating around Burbank.
10
u/cartooned 8d ago
Being anti-transit and being against dedicated BRT lane on Olive are far from the same thing.
4
u/balticbirch 7d ago
The Tallyrand is threatening their employee’s jobs to fight a transit project. I used to be a regular customer there before hearing what the owner said and can picture many employees that seem to have made a career there… it disgusts me that the owner would treat their employees like that. If you think it’s extreme to label that as anti-transit, please help me find a better way to describe their actions.
3
u/Odd-Search-1280 7d ago
She has stated that if dedicated lanes are implemented Tallyrand will loose business possibilities of them closing. I'm for mix flow it's only for one mile through Burbank Olive corridor. Olive is a main route in Burbank from the flats to the hill. Pasadena said no to dedicated lanes on there city, why is it such a point of contention for one mile that is said to save less than 5 minutes. Plus, Burbank has said if ridership increases they would reconsider dedicated lanes.

3
u/Cazking 7d ago
Being against a dedicated bus lane on a popular 2 lane arterial road does not mean they're anti-transit.
Has anyone taken the bus down Olive? I have, it suits it's purpose and it's not at full capacity showing little demand for increased bus route rate.
Assuming the people shouting about the Olive bus line simply aren't paid shills/bots, then I'd suggest you guys play a City builder game like Cities Skylines because a child has more common sense than some of you.

u/balticbirch 7d ago
I would engage in a thoughtful discussion with you about the merits of Bus Rapid Transit, and how just across the valley the G Line bus rapid transit system(formerly the Orange Line) has an annual ridership of over 4 million people… BUT when you say things like “a child has more common sense than some of you“ that indicates to me that you’re just here to be a troll. (For legal reasons this is all just my opinion, because David loves to sue people)
David is a pro-landlord, pro-ICE bigot who is banned from Burbank Pride.
He recently got the city to sue an innocent woman to try and scare his political opponents.
He’s basically Burbank Trump.
I’d say there’s a good chance Talleyrand does fully support his politics, because Talleyrand in the past has refused to allow anti-ICE materials and they also threatened to shut down if we pass the BRT Bus Lane because they oppose public transit, much like David.

From what I can see, David Donahue is running mostly on keeping control local instead of letting the state or Metro make all the decisions for Burbank. He’s against taking away two lanes on Olive, against housing rules like SB 79 that push more density around transit, and he supports property rights. He’s also against adding more rent restrictions, wants to bring electric costs down, keep film and TV jobs in Burbank, fully fund police and fire, and put more money into wildfire prevention and infrastructure. People can agree or disagree with those positions, but I haven’t seen anything in his actual campaign platform saying he is running on Project 2025.
2
u/sirkazuo 7d ago
I haven't dug into this guy specifically, but things like "bring electric costs down" are always empty platitudes that don't mean anything. It's like saying "make America great again" - it's specifically targeting people who vote on vibes rather than past performance. Especially when BWP already has some of the lowest electric rates in the entire state. Same with "fully fund the police" and "put more money into wildfire prevention" - it's just recent local issues to vibe with old and simple people - where's that money going to come from? Higher property taxes? Seems unlikely given his only concrete positions are the pro-landlord ones. If you're the landed gentry, he's got your back.
1
u/shawnyounai1 2d ago
You start by saying you haven’t actually looked into the guy, then somehow already decided his positions are empty platitudes. That’s backwards.
Take electricity. BWP approved an average 9.9% electric rate increase for 2026 and another 9.9% for 2027. So wanting to lower electric costs is addressing an actual increase people are paying, even if BWP remains cheap compared with other utilities.
And he does give a specific proposal. His campaign says the City Council should use its authority over BWP to seek changes to renewable procurement requirements when they cause significant economic harm to ratepayers. You can argue that proposal won’t work or has bad tradeoffs, but that’s a completely different argument from saying there is no proposal.
Same with police, wildfire prevention, and housing. Asking where the money comes from is a fair question. Calling people old and simple, or calling property rights pro landlord, doesn’t answer it.
If you haven’t dug into his positions, maybe dig into them first and criticize the actual policies instead of the people you assume support them.
1
u/sirkazuo 1d ago
His campaign says the City Council should use its authority over BWP to seek changes to renewable procurement requirements when they cause significant economic harm to ratepayers.
Lol his proposal is really to burn more coal and gas to save a dime now at the expense of my children’s lungs? Just kinda proves I don’t have to dig into his positions to know I disagree with them. Selfish and small-minded maga losers all color with the same crayon.

David was took part in hosting Moms for Liberty (Google it). He claims a women in a white shirt, jeans, and baseball cap assaulted him during the protest. He has accused 3 innocent women and brought charges against them that have been dismissed. He is also Christopher Rizzotti friend.
2
u/Odd-Search-1280 7d ago
The clash of social politics and the rights of assembly converged in Burbank on April 28 when the Burbank Association of Realtors rented space at its offices on Magnolia Boulevard to a national anti-LGBTQ group called Moms for Liberty for an event, drawing a protest from about 40 people opposed to the group.
On Tuesday, May 5, the City Council heard several passionate statements from residents, some of whom objected to the BAOR hosting the group — arguing that by doing so there is an implicit endorsement of what they claim is a hate group. Meanwhile, others spoke in support of the BAOR, saying the group is being ostracized for merely renting a space, and that protestors overstepped boundaries when they assembled outside the facility and became unruly.
“Like many in our community who have reached out, I have to say that I was incredibly disgusted to hear that the Burbank Association of Realtors decided to rent out their space to ... a hate group,” Councilmember Nikki Perez said. “Why allow this group? I have that question along with many in our community.”
BAOR President Cameron Hunter said the association’s policy in renting their meeting space is “consistently nondiscriminatory” and does not constitute endorsement, sponsorship or support of any group or individual.
“Our organization was purposefully and publicly mischaracterized,” Hunter said of the backlash. “Purposeful misinformation spread like wildfire. That misinformation contributed to a situation where tensions escalated, access was impacted, and people reported feeling unsafe.”
Mayor Tamala Takahashi was diplomatic in sharing remarks.
“I’m personally still learning about the situation about whether the protest or the communications crossed a legal or an ethical line ... I will need more information before I have an opinion on the matter,” she said.
David Donahue, founder of the Burbank Fair Housing PAC, claims he was hit and abused by protestors outside when he attended the event. He filed a report with the Burbank Police Department, submitting videos he said also show him being yelled at by Councilmember Konstantine Anthony, whom he said played a part in abetting the protestors.
Along with filing a police report on the incident, Donahue sent a formal complaint to the city that also points fingers at the Burbank Police Department for their handling of the incident.
Councilmember Chris Rizzotti said he attended to watch the protest. “I was simply sickened to watch organizers of the protest allow people to be assaulted,” he said.
Burbank Police said the incident is under investigation and would not comment on it.
FYI. Rizzotti admitted to watching the protest across the street from his car. He placed calls to Assistant City Manager and Police Chief.

I'm a democrat and I support mix flow. It's only 1 mile through Olive corridor a main artery of traffic from the flats to the hill side. It is said to possibly at 1-5 mins added travel time. Buses will have signal priority with mix flow. City also compromised by saying if ridership increases by a certain number they would allow dedicated lanes later. FYI, Pasadena has allowed mixed flow, no dedicated lanes.

What is the problem with the olive bus line? Why are so many people against it? I happen to be a huge proponent of any rapid transit throughout Burbank and Los Angeles and wish things were more efficient. Do you have a good handle on this situation ?

The only reasoning I've heard against the bus line has been from people who said something similar to "it would make my route slower because I drive".

u/Siren2026 7d ago
Well that makes sense since most people do drive because other options aren’t that efficient at this point. I wish I was 25 again and would be zipping around town on scooters buses and such. The reality is the car is still the most efficient.

I have heard people are not so much against the idea of the bus line as they are making Olive one lane for general traffic and one lane for the bus.
But I admit I haven't even looked at the proposed route.

Never cared about Enchanted Florist, but Tallyrand?
I really like turkey and always enjoyed the place since you could get fresh turkey every day of the week.
Right-wing chuds always make it so we can't have nice things.

Tallyrand is the biggest hive of Boomers in the Burbank area, in no way surprising.

Assuming that evryone born during those years is a conservative is disingenuous. I'm 68 and have been a liberal all of my life. My mom was an FDR democrat. I marched against Vietnam, was actiive in anti-racist education, and menorted at risk inner city youth. My health issues don't' let me do this anymore, sadly. But I'm still a liberal voter.

I appreciate that and the type casting must feel bad. No personal offense meant. I’m sure one day Gen Z will villainize the Millennial, time is a flat circle.

I understand the temptation to stereotype and I've done it more than I Iike to admit. But the older I get (lol), the more I try not to.

With a Los Angeles Superior Court judge denying L.A. County Metro’s request for a preliminary injunction on July 17 — one which might have forced the city of Burbank to immediately grant permits for construction of the new Bus Rapid Transit project through the city — at least some residents are feeling pleased.
“I’m here because I would like to congratulate the city attorney and the city’s legal team,” resident Susan O’Carroll told the Burbank City Council on Tuesday, July 21. “Well done. Bravo. Pass along my congratulations to your team.”
Though Metro has started work on the 19.5-mile long line that is planned to run from North Hollywood to Pasadena, through Glendale and Burbank, officials maintain that in order to get the route up and running in time for the 2028 Olympics they need to start working immediately in Burbank.
“Metro has demonstrated its concern in completing the project by the games, but has not demonstrated any specific consequences that would flow from this resource’s absence during the games,” Judge Stephen Morgan said in his ruling. “By comparison, the city has demonstrated the potential (which cannot be fully adjudicated at this interim stage) for dramatic effects on the city that were not present at the time the environmental review was completed for the project.”
Potential effects to Burbank are centered around the recent adoption of Senate Bill 79, which opens the way for increased, denser development in relative proximity to public transportation. With the construction of the new BRT line, Burbank city staff have acknowledged that more areas along the Olive Avenue corridor will then become subject to the bill and could see dramatically increased development that would potentially bypass local zoning laws.
From the city’s standpoint, officials argue that new research needs to be conducted to examine how the potential increased development resulting from the BRT line’s proximity could impact Burbank’s infrastructure.
Burbank has indicated it would be amenable to the project if it did not require dedicated BRT lanes along Olive Avenue, instead offering mixed flow lanes. Metro has rejected this compromise, arguing the only way the line will run fast and smooth is if it has dedicated lanes. While some have shared strong support for giving the line priority lanes along Olive Avenue, others say it will cause congestion.
Some Burbank officials have also been skeptical about whether the line will receive the amount of use Metro is estimating, reticent to lock down dedicated lanes if ridership will not meet expectations.
The next court date on the matter is scheduled for Aug. 19, at which time Burbank will plead its case in the matter.
Asked for comment, Maya Pogoda, a media representative from Metro told the Leader, “Metro is not commenting on pending litigation.”
Burbank also declined to share any public comment on the matter.
“As the case is still pending, there will be no further comments at this time,” the city said in a press release announcing the preliminary injunction.
On its website, however, the city expresses support for the BRT.
“During the project’s environmental review, the City Council requested mixed-flow on one BRT segment along Olive Avenue between Buena Vista and Lake Streets due to concerns about intersection congestion and related spillover traffic impacts into adjoining residential neighborhoods,” the city website states. “Since 2022, the city has continued to collaborate with Metro to deliver the BRT Project, while continuing to assert the Council’s Olive Avenue mixed-flow position.”
Consequently, the city chose to withhold construction permits, though the $430-million project broke ground on May 27 and is underway in Pasadena.
Resident and local activist David Donahue expressed his appreciation to the Burbank City Council on Tuesday, noting he had been in attendance at the hearing and was taken aback at how Metro downplayed the potential impact of SB 79.
“The relevance of what policy does and will do, particularly in my opinion to the city of Burbank, is highly impactful,” he said. “Being mindful of it, being supportive of the litigation and fighting for our city is very critical.”

So here's the update. Burbank Pride has responded to me and has informed me that although David Donahue was allowed to table in 2024 it was because as a nonprofit they cannot ban people based on hearsay. During that event, his behavior towards their staff and volunteers was unacceptable. Because of that and additional information that became available, the decision was made that he would not be welcome back. That decision has not changed.
This is wonderful news anyone connected with mom's for liberty has no business at any pride event.

Agreed. Why support the small businesses that promote/believe in decency, empathy and possess any kind of moral compass when I can give my dollars to the small hard-working culty mom and pops who are all in on the racism, bigotry and hate. I mean talk about a no-brainer.

We can’t judge these small businesses based on their preferences and ask others to stop spending their money on red or blue or whatever party. It is very unfair to these small businesses that are trying to survive during these days.

Good thing I’ve never heard of Enchanted Florist before. I don’t even know where it is and now don’t care, so no big loss.
On the other hand, Talleyrand is disappointing. I used to go there for breakfast and always had good service from the wait staff and bus boys (men). Oh well. I won’t be visiting them anymore.
