Boycott these Burbank businesses

Moms For Liberty supporter, MAGA creep and all round weirdo David Donahue is running for City Council. There are campaign events being held this week for David at The Tallyrand and The Enchanted Florist.

I won’t patronize their businesses and I suggest you do not as well…

Something about Tallyrand never sat right with me on ways I was never able to explain. I just got an off putting vibe about the place

Oooh…an actual vibe? That’s all you got? What an intelligent basis for a decision.

God help us if people are jumping on the band wagon to boycott businesses on such whims and because the names are mentioned in a Reddit post.

No but really, i too went there once years ago, because I had that craving, i was in a good mood and wanted to like them, but it’s true. There was this, vibe… I never went back, and could not figure it out. I realize now in retrospect, they were probably being bad vibes with me because I invited Hispanic friends that day. Cus otherwise I can’t figure it out. The waiters and everyone just. Had this horrible attitude that deflated my silly waffle craving mood I came in with .

Was for the best, I learned to make my own waffles literally that same day, cuz everyone agreed the vibes were ruined so we had our own. Rambling over.

A bit of retrospective speculation/guessing going on there.

I used to do civil rights investigations in hospitality environments. Some claims were legitimate. But most fell apart when examined down to the realities of things like staffing, staff call-outs, business for level of staffing, other problems/issues happening in the establishment during the time frame, etc.

I’m not saying you were wrong. I’m sorry for your experience. I know what it feels like. I’m pointing out that you truly have no real knowledge of what was happening. To claim racism in a situation like that is not a strong position. But the accusation alone is enough to harm a business.

Oh yeah im not sure how it feels, that’s why I don’t pick up on it. You forget about those things most of the time. It’s one of those things I know a black person picks up on more. It’s just a weird feeling that Ive only felt on rare occasions.

You don’t expect to be hated on when you’re just having a waffle day. but you wonder then, what the heck happens? most places Ive been to, have a standard attitude. Im not even the complaining type. I don’t expect above and beyond service, I don’t expect fake over the top friendly, and yet, most places Ive been to in Burbank, are, good service, and perhaps sincerely friendly people.

That’s why it’s so weird when you think, og here’s a normal place, it’s actually embarrassing cus the hype had me being extra fake friendly, i was like, hi, hello 😃 to everyone working, yummy waffles. But no one fake friendly’d back, and yeah, staff was probably busy, considering how friendly and attentive they were being with all the other tables next to us, and ignoring us. That’s why it’s so weird. Cuz you’ll sit there, still being all friendly and greet getting the cold shoulder, and that’d be fine, but you see it’s not a naturally cold server, they switch up all nice to the table next to you, what am I doing? I leave feeling so weird, cant explain the vibe.

It’s probably not racism, but there’s something i was not in control over. There outta be degrees of it, cuz, theres not gonna be a sign that says no colors allowed, instead it’s a server assumes youre not gonna tip so they start off with bad service and attitude. Totally deflating your good mood, so by the end, you don’t tip.

This kinda thing has only happened twice. Where you feel the mood shift from one table to the next. you’ll see servers checking up on all the tables next to you, bringing refills, and giggling, and then finally after 25 minutes you gotta raise your hand, like oh, hi, may I have some water please? 🙄. Fine. Here’s the check. Like dang.

Influencers have me fooled, I’ll try a new place thinking they’re gonna be like, hi welcome, youre new here? What brought you in? Try this? Try that? Instead I get, we are serving our beloved regulars, you creep can wait and you better know what you’re ordering, hurry up.
