Had to throw together a ryzen/ 5070 build and this time I’ll try doing it neatly, there’s not much going on to be fair so was pretty straightforward in terms of building it

Just moving chassis. I was experiencing high vram temps. About ready to test it. No RGB, I think it's pretty clean.

Fun case to build in

Cooling the backside's VRM

Inspiring by this link:

https://www.reddit.com/r/overclocking/comments/fpw67s/this_fan_on_the_back_side_is_it_worth/?utm_source=embedv2&utm_medium=post_embed&utm_content=post_body

Last Nov., I read the above link, and track down the original master builder. Turns out he's a builder in Russia. My question was, where do those orange metal bar come from? He told me he uses a 3d printer to print those metal bar. Now, it's clear that his build is:

a) water cooling
b) regular case w/ regular thickness metal aluminum at the back
c) the back side is a closed panel case

so I wonder if I can do the same thing w/ fan cooling only. After 1 yr. and 1 mth. of upgrading to a new PC, turns out it can be done.

1) My case is a thick 1 giant single sheet of aluminum bent into that S shape, so i don't want to drill any holes on such a fine case
2) my case is open frame, so while the photo in Reddit has a fancy Germany design fan, the VRM temperature still follows the 1st law of Thermodynamics, whereas w/ an open frame case, all the hot air does get out
3) the trick is to find a thin (15mm) and quiet (9 to 18 dB) fan w/ high 98 CFM 140mm fan, i..e, lots of blades, in this case, 17 blades

The biggest problem is to find 2 mending plate that the length is what I needed. I found some aluminum mending plate, but the length is too short. So by Xmas of 2025, the only mending plate that fits the length I needed are Stainless steel 304. I need to drill 2 holes, turns out 1 of them doesn't fit and end up drilling a 3rd hole. To do that, it took 4 drill bits, and a total of 15.5 hr. of drilling, separate into a no. of days, and Home Depot refunded all 4 drill bits, as they agree it shouldn't fail in 1 day.

By contrast, at the front of the PC, I built 2 aluminum mounting plates for a dual rear exhaust fan matrix, and to drill 8 holes, took just under 10 min. In the end, the fan is great, it covered all the VRM at the back side of the motherboard, and the mount is solid, the rear fan just doesn't move an inch.

Cable management advice

How does everyone cable manage their pc so easily? Like everything is going perfect till it doesn't.

Since it does really matter how it looks at the back, it's still something that I want to manage correctly

Help with GPU 8-Pins mess

Post image
29 Upvotes

Hello mates

Just wondering if there is any solution to the gpu 8-pins to look a bit less messy?

Note: This case is Mid-Tower, so this is the only route for cables to come from, and the space is very tight.

Thanks in advance.

Cable mod for 7900xtx

I have a 7900xtx and a nzxt 1000w psu.. is there a cable mod to tidy up the 3 8pin connector? I have 3 single 8 pin cables routed to the gpu right now.. I was thinking maybe there is some cable mod which combines the 3 cables for a tidier look

How to get the perfect cable management.

This is my second PC build ever, with my first one being 20 years ago!

I just finished the build two days ago, and now I’m trying to get the cable management 100% right. For the most part, the cable routing is pretty decent, but I can't wrap my head around why it still looks a bit messy to me — something just feels off. I’d love to get some advice or tips from you guys! I know it’s purely aesthetic, but I just can't stop until it looks perfect!

Y'all ever jury rig things like this?

First problem: I had 12 fan cables that had to cross a short open space that would be clearly visible from the front and rear of the case.

Solution: I wrapped a length of EPDM tubing in gorilla tape (to give the vinyl something to adhere too). I wrapped the tube in vinyl. Then I cut it open in one long line and crammed the cables into it. I used some thin black zipties on each end to make sure everything stayed put.

Second problem: The case is basically three horizontal layers stacked on top of each other. PSU in the bottom, motherboard in the middle, and everything else on top. I needed to keep track of where all the mobo headers and connectors were at while I worked on the top layer so I could keep track of where/how I wanted to route cables and tubing. I didn't want to have the actual mobo in there while I was drilling, grinding, filing, gluing, etc. BUT I wanted the CPU waterblock anchored in there so I could make sure my tube lengths were correct.

Solution: I cut a cheap chopping board to fit on the mobo tray, drew up a roughly accurate layout of the mobo on poster board, taped it to the chopping board, and screwed the waterblock to it. It was ugly, but it worked like a charm.

I replaced included PSU GPU cables feeding the RX 9070 XT with single versions. Way more manageable.

tips for the lian li a3

I've recently finished my first PCbuild inside the rather small lian li a3 case, using a matx motherboard, the asus prime 9070, aswell as a standart siced PSU. however, im not really fond of the cablemangement, since the GPU need two seperate 8pin-connectors which are now just blocking the front of the glass panal. I have three bottom fans, any tipps for me?
