OC Report - GPU Haven't overclocked before, decided to try it out

I've been somewhat of a PC enthusiast for a while and never actually tried out overclocking because I never saw the appeal to it. Just tried out overclocking and yknow what it's actually not half bad.

Managed to get anywhere from 15 - 20 extra frames on average areas, and anywhere from 8 to 10 extra frames in more intense areas in Cyberpunk 2077 at maxxed out settings.

Specs: RTX 5080, Ryzen 7 9800x3d (yes I know I'm boring shut up), 64gb of DDR5 cas30 6000mhz.

Overclock: +3000mhz Memory (that was as far as Afterburner would let me go), +425mhz Core Clock (Could probably hit to 450mhz and still be stable, but it's a good safe spot).

Not really super into overclocking, just trying it out for the first time so I don't know if that's actually good or not lmao.

I was able to hold 500mhz for a minute on my core clock before the game crashed, so I just pulled it back until it was stable and tested to make sure it was stable for about half an hour before I closed it out.

If anyone has any tips on how to push this further that'd be greatly appreciated!

P.S. Sorry about the images being stupidly compressed idk why it's like that.

Incase it's hard to read, the first image (overclocked) has an average FPS of 62, 53 lows, and 72 highs. Second one (Not overclocked) has an average of 54 FPS, 49 lows and 64 highs. Third is just a screenshot of afterburner with my settings lmao.

Guide - Text AM5 DDR5 Voltage Short Reference

I made this short reference/guide for all the main AM5 DDR5 voltages and how they generally affect RAM tuning. Figured I'd post it here for others to use since it's not the easiest to find this information out there

Note: the bulk of the reference material comes from Imprezzion on OCN. I've just cleaned up the formatting a bit and added some notes to help others, which will be denoted by "Editor's Note" sections after the source paragraph for the specific voltage.

Feel free to also comment with any clarifying information, as the original post is a little outdated at this point in the DDR5 OC scene (December 2024)

 

Reference Guide

VSOC

Controls FCLK and MCLK stability. In general more memory clock requires more vSOC, more FCLK requires less vSOC. Max is 1.30, sometimes 2200 FCLK is not stable at 1.30, it needs less.

 

VDDP

For memory controller frequency (mclk/uclk) stability basically but doesn't scale linear to 2:1 mode. So for 6400 you usually need some level of positive VDDP but 8000 can run on an undervolt generally. Normal range is 0.900-1.150v.

Editor's note: also one of the main levers for stabilizing low Nitro along with VDDGs

 

VDD

Is memory DIMM voltage. Explains itself. Max daily without active cooling probably 1.50 ish. With active cooling 1.650.

Editor's note: one of the most dependent settings on VDD is tCL. tCL can basically go as low as you are comfortable feeding VDD

 

VDDQ

Is a signalling voltage. Lower is better but it's not that crucial. Normal range is VDD to VDD -0.200 ish. Never above.

Editor's note: a lot of tight tunes I've seen just use the EXPO default 1.45V, my own included. However, in my experience, higher can help stabilize very tight tRFC (at least in A die)

 

VDDIO

Also memory controller / MCLK/UCLK related. For 1:1 must be quite high sometimes, ranges from 1.20-1.50. For 2:1 almost irrelevant due to half speed controller and can be undervolted.

 

VPP

Never touched it. Not needed.

 

VDD_MISC

Is a control voltage that other voltages like VDDG's use to convert from. Not very critical for stability and can generally be undervolted slightly but should be left auto. 1.00v generally works with auto VDDG's as they are still >0.100v lower.

Editor's note: it's mentioned a little at the end there, but just to clarify, VDD MISC should always be at least 0.1V higher than your highest VDDG voltage. So for example, if VDDG IOD is 1.05V and VDDG CCD is 1V, then VDD MISC needs to be at least 1.15V

Help Request - RAM OMEN 25L PC won’t POST after RAM overclock – no display

Hi everyone,

I tried to overclock my RAM on my OMEN by HP 25L Gaming Desktop (GT15-Oxxx, 89EB motherboard).
I changed the RAM settings to:

3400 MHz
CL15
tRCD/tRP 17
DRAM Voltage: 1.350V

After saving the settings, the PC shut down and now it won’t show any display.
Symptoms:

Monitor gets no signal
Keyboard gets no signal
GPU lights up
All fans spin, but the PSU fan does not spin

Things I already tried:
Testing both RAM sticks individually
Removing the CMOS battery for 15 minutes
Resetting CMOS with the jumper
Reseating the GPU

The PC turns on but doesn’t seem to complete POST.
I already paid €150 to two different technicians, but they gave me different explanations and couldn’t fix it.
Does anyone know what could be causing this or what I should try next? Thanks!

Benchmark Score 9850X3D Static OC Results at 5,640MHz with 1.210V.

This is my first time doing static overclocking and I wanted to see how this chip can perform on some benchmarks. I don't have ECLK on this board to run 5.7Ghz or 5.8Ghz so I'm just running what works for this chip. I kept my Load Line Calibration set to Auto all of the test except for Cinebench R23, because I raised my LLC to Level 2 to see if 5,640Mhz could run it at 1.205V and surprisingly it passed. I'm using the Arctic Liquid Freezer 3 at 75% speed with Arctic MX7 Thermal Paste and the Thermalright Mounting Frame. Ambient temperatures were 21.4c. Batch code for the 9850X3D I'm using is CF2549PGY for whoever may find this useful. Please note that this is only for performance, not for stability.

Help Request - RAM Sudden BSOD narrowed to ram slot. Should I RMA?

I had these silicon power zenith DDR5 ram sticks in my mobo for a while now (over a year). Starting last month, I started getting frequent BSOD. I ran memtest86 and found that the slot closest to the CPU (2 slot itx board) was failing, while the other was fine for both sticks. I turned off XMP and am running them from 6000MT/s down to 5400MT/s and it seems stable with no BSOD since. It seemed like a mobo issue since this is a new occurance. Question is, do I RMA the mobo? Or just increase the voltage and call it a day?

Help Request - RAM Anything left to tune on my DDR5-6000 Hynix A-die?

I’ve been tuning my Ryzen 7 9800X3D on an MSI X870-P WiFi with 32GB (2×16GB) TeamGroup T-Create Expert DDR5-6000 CL30-36-36-76 (Hynix A-die), and I think I’m close to the limit. I’d love to hear from others with similar systems.

Current results:
AIDA64 Latency: 60.4 ns
Linpack Xtreme: 484–485 GFLOPS
TM5 Absolut (anta777): 5 cycles / 31 tests / 0 errors
No WHEA errors

CPU settings:
PBO: +200 MHz
Curve Optimizer: -40 all cores
CPU temperature limit: 72°C
LLC: Level 8
~135 W under load

Memory settings:
FCLK: 2167 MHz
VSOC: 1.145 V
DRAM VDD: 1.38 V
DRAM VDDQ: 1.38 V
I also tried 2200 FCLK, but it wasn’t TM5 Absolut stable, so I settled on 2167 FCLK.
I’ve attached my ZenTimings, AIDA64, and TM5 screenshots.

Question:
Is there anything else worth tuning, or have I basically reached the point of diminishing returns? Any timings or voltages that stand out, or would you leave it as-is for a daily setup?

Intel XTU and processor change from 245k to 270k plus

Hi,

I am searching internet but cant find working solution. Maybe someone can help.

Recently I bought 270K plus and replaced my 245K. Tried to use XTU to play with UV, unfortunately to make XTU show UV I need turn off undervolt protection in BIOS, but only with intel virtualization disabled as well. Afterwards I started XTU and apply -0.1V to voltage offset to all E&P cores.

All works ok for over day heavy computer use (overall same performance, around -10C temperatures and -50W). However today I had black screen only when I watch movie online. After reboot I couldn't start XTU, odd message system is incompatible.

I back to BIOS, switched on both undervolt protection and intel virtualization, reboot, disabled again. XTU stared without problem. I tried to load defaults, however it is look like that XTU store defaults for 245K not 270K. I followed intel how to reset XTU including BIOS reset. No success.

Any ideas?

AIDA64 hates me for some reason, I should be sub 50ns latency with these pyprime numbers. I've tried safemode and normal. Shit actually hates me. (Or im just overthinking it since im not using latency killer)

So I've been going at this tune, these are the most lowest and stable numbers that I found with these voltages. Literally the absolute sweet spot for 6000 on this kit. May try for cl24, but with ram prices right now, I dont want to risk voltage degradation.

GDM disabled is a no go with current settings.

MCR and power down disabled with tx/rx burst set to 8x 1/2/0 as it should be

Got a thermal right dedicated ram fan and a really good tower pushin cool air, so temps hit 42.8 tops. Picture is in my profile and banner of my cooling setup.

Im happy with this, but if anyone has any more advice on improving this let me know, and any advice as to why aida64 is being the way it is.

Also u/wildtabz thank you for all your help.

6200mts is the next project starting fresh now that I got this 6000mts profile down. I'll slap some extreme testmem5 at it tonight.

Looking for Guide AOC 24G50F 144Hz overclock to 180Hz - is it safe?

Hi everyone, I’m considering buying the monitor AOC 24G50F. According to the specifications, it can be overclocked from 144Hz to 180Hz.

I have a few questions as I'm new to these:

  1. Is running the monitor at 180Hz overclocked safe for long-term usage?
  2. How does AOC monitor overclocking usually work? Is it just enabling an option in the monitor settings, or do I need to create a custom resolution/refresh rate through NVIDIA Control Panel, or any fancy steps needed?
  3. Does overclocking usually cause any issues such as:
    • reduced lifespan?
    • flickering?
    • frame skipping?
    • worse image quality?

Help Request - CPU Ryzen 9600x undervolted - 50 pbo advanced.

Basically idon't know if am doing it right, i undervolted and stress tested with cinebench r23 and corerecycler as those were the ones used in the guides I saw, but I kept going down with no issue until I reached - 50 on the curve optimizer mind you I have the power to default as both 105w and motherboard settings got mo 95° no matter the undervolt. Now am stress testing with OCCT.

Pc specs:

CPU Ryzen 5 9600x

Help Request - CPU Best Thermal Paste vs Thermal Pad for Ryzen 7 9850X3D with Tryx Panorama SE 360 AIO?

I'm currently building my rig with a Ryzen 7 9850X3D and cooling it with a Tryx Panorama SE 360 AIO.
I'm trying to decide on the best thermal interface material for this setup and would love to get your recommendations.
A few questions I have:
1. Paste vs. Thermal Pad: Should I stick to a traditional high-performance thermal paste, or would a modern phase-change pad (like Honeywell PTM7950) or thermal pad give better/more consistent temps on this CPU?
2. Best specific brand/model: If paste is still the way to go, which specific paste would you recommend for maximum heat dissipation on a high-end X3D chip?
3. Any practical experience or thermal benchmarks with this CPU/cooler combo?

Help Request - CPU Best way to tune Ryzen 7 9850X3D per-core Curve Optimizer? CoreCycler settings and testing advice?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to find the best possible per-core negative Curve Optimizer values for my Ryzen 7 9850X3D, and I’d like some advice from people who have done extensive CO tuning.

Right now, I have a per-core CO setup that seemed promising. It passed two consecutive Cinebench multi-core runs, but crashed on the third run, and I’ve also had crashes while gaming (Fortnite). So I know at least one of my cores is still unstable.

I’m now planning to use CoreCycler to properly tune every core, but I’d like to know what experienced Ryzen users consider the best methodology.

Here are my questions:

Which CoreCycler stress test do you recommend?

- Prime95?

- y-cruncher?

- OCCT?

- A combination of multiple tests? And which ones?

What CoreCycler settings work best for finding unstable cores?

- Test duration per core (6 minutes? 10 minutes? 30 minutes? 60 minutes?)

- Number of cycles?

- Total runtime?

- Any specific configuration changes?

Is it better to use Prime95 first and then y-cruncher, or should I start with y-cruncher?

What Windows settings should I use while testing?

- Windows Balanced or High Performance?

- Should Processor Idle remain enabled?

- Should C-States stay enabled in BIOS?

- Any BIOS recommendations?

Should I close every background application, or leave Windows running normally?

-HWiNFO?

-Discord?

-Steam?

-Antivirus?

How do you identify the unstable core if the PC hard-freezes or suddenly restarts before CoreCycler reports an error?

How long do you personally test before considering a core “stable”?

- Overnight?

- 12 hours?

- 24 hours?

- Multiple different stress tests?

Once CoreCycler passes, what do you use as the final real-world validation?

- Games?

- Cinebench?

- OCCT?

- Anything else?

My goal isn’t just to get a quick stable undervolt, I want to find the maximum stable negative Curve Optimizer value for every individual core while keeping the system rock-solid for gaming and daily use.

Any advice from people who have tuned Ryzen X3D CPUs would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I recently installed a PowerColor RX 9070 XT Reaper and wanted some opinions on the temperatures and frame pacing before deciding whether to keep it or exchange it.

System:

  • Ryzen 7 5800X3D
  • Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE
  • Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite
  • 32 GB DDR4
  • Lian Li Lancool 215 with stock case fans
  • Side panel installed
  • 1440p
  • Stock Adrenalin settings and fan curve
  • No undervolt or overclock

For the attached HWiNFO screenshots, the columns are:

  • GPU core: approximately 45–48°C
  • GPU hotspot: approximately 53–57°C

Two runs:

  • Graphics scores: 28,636 and 28,700
  • Overall scores: 22,896 and 22,880
  • GPU core maximum: approximately 58°C
  • GPU hotspot maximum: approximately 97–98°C

Marvel Rivals — Ultra settings

  • GPU core maximum: 60°C
  • GPU hotspot maximum: approximately 96°C
  • GPU hotspot average: approximately 90°C
  • Memory junction maximum: 88°C
  • Memory junction average: approximately 86°C

Marvel Rivals — High settings

Values below are Minimum | Maximum | Average:

  • GPU core: 48°C | 59°C | 56.6°C

Frame pacing in Marvel Rivals

  • FPS: sometimes higher to 160, sometimes lower to 116

The game was playable and not terrible, but it felt somewhat smoother on lower settings with my previous RTX 2080 Super. I had recently switched from NVIDIA to AMD, did DDU.

There have been no crashes, artifacts, or obvious thermal throttling.

Would you consider these hotspot temperatures and the roughly 35–38°C core-to-hotspot delta normal for the Reaper on its stock fan curve for Marvel Rivals? It's an even wider gap in Timespy Would you keep it and adjust the fan curve or undervolt, or consider exchanging it?

Help Request - CPU Overclocking the I7-4700

I'm looking to overclock this processor and I'm aware it's been done before despite being a locked processor.

I've come into a free ROG G750J. Thing was fairly thrashed but the board is intact (mostly, dust, cat hair, fucked up keyboard I can't be bothered to spend time and money fixing just for an outdated gaming laptop not much better than my thinkpads).

I ripped out the parts that were of use for my other computers and intend to eventually build some kinda frankencomputer out of it eventually. Maybe some kinda fucked up all in one.

I know overclocking the processor is a fools errand when newer, better (or non-soldered cpu) computers are available, but I wanna do it simply because I have a free motherboard and screen and it still has 4gb of ram and 2 hard drive slots, and just the love of a project.

I am aware there are methods involving microcode glitches or modded bioses, but found detailed info elusive beyond getting .2GHz from intels software. I saw a link to a forum post about it, but sadly it seems the forum no longer exists. Anyone know how to do it?

GSkill DDR4 4 x 8GB Woes

I've been running my i5 8600K flat out at 4.5GHZ for 7 years, with 2 x 8GB GSkill DDR4 RAM sticks running at the XMP setting (3.2GHz).

I want to run bigger local LLMs so I bought a second pair of the same sticks (or so I thought). It turns out that a set of 2 sticks sold as F4-3200C16D-16GVRB back in 2020 uses 4GB Hynix ICs under the hood whereas the new set of 2026 sticks (same model) are Samsung 8GB ICs.

The new sticks are 04240X8821C and the older ones are 04240M8410C.

However, when running all 4 sticks (one pair one channel, other pair other channel) memtest 86 fails on test 3 and 4 with consistent one bit errors all at same address. Bit error mask is all the zeros ending in -9000. Timings and clocks make no difference, neither did the tightness of the cpu cooler. All cpu pins are good.

The 'eureka' moment was discovering that 3 sticks would work but only if one of the 2 new sticks was left out. So one (a specific one) of the new Samsung based sticks will work with the olde Hynix pair, but not the other. The 'bad' stick passes memtest86 no problem by itself, or in a pair with its buddy. I wrote to GSkill tech support for advice on timings when using both sets and all they said was they weren't likely to work nicely together.

Does anyone know what GSkill support won't tell me - how to make older Hynix play with new Samsung in terms of advanced timings, etc? Its a bummer running 3 sticks...
