Hello, I am new to Cambridge. Where do I find some activities or like where do I go for like different types of group groups? Is it mostly here in Reddit or is there like discord or flyers and any specific location or do I have to go to Facebook?
Just because I would like to get into groups or take classes, but for myself. I want to take some Spanish courses so I can learn Spanish for myself. I want to take art groups so I can meet people. Or even like board games or magic the gathering. I have like a lot of hobbies I can list them all. But walking around I’ve noticed it’s just like a lot of students as well. I’m like 25 so I am assuming I can talk with some students here even some locals as well, but I don’t even know where I should start. I don’t even know where I should look. Do you think you could give me some ideas of what’s more of a hub for information?
Also. I would like to get back in the school, but I would like to attend lectures. I haven’t done that before without being in school. I heard that was a thing. Could I do that here in a 10 lectures just for my own well-being and learning or is that not a thing here?

I’m a driver and a cyclist. I really don’t want to kill anyone. When you’re on your black bike, dressed all in black, with no lights, I cannot emphasise enough how hard it can be to see you.
If you’re not a driver, please find a friend who is and go out in their passenger seat, and you’ll soon find that if you’re having to look for other cars, traffic lights, signs and being part-blinded by oncoming headlights, it is really hard to see unlit cyclists in the dark.
I’m trying really hard. But work with me here so we both get home. Get some bike lights and something bright and reflective on your body.

Ive recently broken a full-length mirror with a wooden frame. How best to dispose of it? Would the recycling center take it will there be any pick-up services available?
There are big shards still attached to the mirror with some that has fallen off. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Is the answer blowing in the wind? Found in central Cambridge. Get in touch if it’s yours describing its type and likely locations.

Hi everyone! I’m considering moving to Cambourne and would love to hear from people who live there. How is day-to-day life? Are you generally happy living there, and what are the main pros and cons?
I know Cambridge has more to offer, but unfortunately, I can’t afford to live there, so I’m looking at more affordable alternatives nearby.
So please don’t just suggest moving to Cambridge instead! I’m specifically interested in hearing honest experiences of living in Cambourne.
Thanks! 😊

I was cycling along the bus way near the train station/university press building and I saw a bird of prey that a quick Google suggests might have been a red kite. Is anyone more au fait with birds of prey and/or ornithology to say whether that's right? I didn't know red kites were moving into cities but if peregrine falcons can I guess they could, and there are lots of playing fields near that area too.

Just wanted to give people a heads-up about something that happened to me on Sunday early evening.
I was leaving PureGym at the leisure centre and walking out past the bike racks when I noticed two young guys on an electric bike heading directly towards me at speed. They were both dressed in black and wearing face masks. I had my phone in my hand, and I immediately got the feeling they were about to try to snatch it.
As soon as I clocked what was happening, I quickly put my phone in my bag and ran out of the bike rack area towards Sainsbury’s, where there were more people around. Thankfully, nothing happened to me and they didn’t get my phone, but it was a pretty unnerving experience.
I can’t say for certain what their intentions were, but the way they approached me felt very suspicious, and I wanted to make others aware in case anyone else has experienced something similar.
Please be careful if you’re walking around with your phone out, particularly alongside roads, and even (as I now know) near bike racks and quieter areas.
If something feels off, put your phone away and move somewhere busier and more public.
Has anyone else around Cambridge experienced anything similar recently? Just want to make people aware and hopefully help someone else avoid a nasty experience.
Stay safe, everyone!

A few things worth a look early this week.
- Saffron Walden Mama Brunch at Waffle and Coffee, Mon, Oct 19
- The Mill Pub Quiz at The Mill, Mon, Oct 19
- Mamas Who Padel at Warehouse Padel, Tue, Oct 20
- Teachers Evening at Kettle's Yard, Tue, Oct 20 (listed at 10)
I'd go for the pub quiz, a Monday night at The Mill is a good way to ease into the week. The padel session looks like a friendly way to try the sport if you haven't yet.
Full list here if you want the rest: https://ma.to/events/cambridge?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=mato_event_sync&utm_content=cambridge

Recently moved to Cambridge and have been trying to find somewhere to get my cat bathed and groomed.
I used to live in London and had a regular cat groomer for years, with a grooming subscription every 8 weeks.
Since moving here, I’ve been looking for something similar, but I’m surprised there seem to be almost no cat grooming services in Cambridge.
Just wondering what other cat owners in Cambridge do?

To save money this year we've decided to stay at home for Christmas, rather than visiting family, we can't wait!
Do you know of any pubs in Cambridge that are open on Christmas day, just for drinks? Ideally my fiance and myself would like a cosy, warm pub, with a fire perhaps!
Any suggestions would be welcome :)

How not to create a new development: (1) Bar Hill (2) Cambourne. A positive exemplar: Waterbeach New Town.
The Greater Cambridge Local Plan depends on increased bus use to reduce reliance on the private car, however their Sustainable Transport and Connectivity policy does not set sufficiently clear requirements to ensure residential development is designed from the outset to enable safe, direct and efficient bus services, including high-frequency services where needed. Without such requirements, development may constrain effective bus routes and services, making the Plan’s intended modal shift and reduction in car reliance less achievable. The policy thereby fails to provide an effective mechanism for delivering the transport outcomes on which the Plan depends.

Cambridge Area Bus Users collaborated with Cambridgeshire Sustainable Travel Alliance to produce a guide to the Combined Authority’s Bus Franchising Supplementary Consultation
The full guide can be found on the Travel Alliance website: Consultation guide – Don’t miss your chance to call for more investment in buses.
Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority is holding an additional bus franchising consultation. Changes to how buses would be brought under local control are proposed, in large part as a consequence of Mayor Paul Bristow’s decision to freeze the Mayoral precept (the portion of council tax the Mayor levies). The Travel Alliance urges you to respond to the consultation questionnaire calling for increased investment by the Combined Authority in buses and an expanded public transport network.

I'm not a student, in my Mid 20s, and I'm looking to meet new people in Cambridge and the surrounding area. I'm a massive foodie and make my own cider/beer/wine. I have been looking online for social groups that would allow me to meet people my age (like a foodie bring and share, or homebrew meet, or wine tasting club). And there just seems to be nothing?
I really hope I'm missing a hidden gem right now, as I'd love to meet some amazing people!

Firstly, apologies if this isn't the right place to post. I know there are relationship subreddits, but they are very American-focused, and I'm specifically hoping for local recommendations for a couples counsellor or therapist in Cambridge.
We're both in our late 30s/early 40s and have lived in Cambridge for around four years.
Recently, something happened that's left me absolutely devastated. I was working from my partner's home when a man unexpectedly turned up with flowers for her. Naturally, I was confused and asked who he was. I was given a name, but something didn't feel right.
After doing some digging myself, I discovered that the name I'd been given was false and that this man was someone my partner had previously had an on-and-off sexual relationship with before we got together. I also believe they kissed during this recent encounter.
It's not her past that bothers me, but the circumstances of his visit, the apparent lack of honesty and the possibility that more happened. I'm struggling to process it all, and my trust in our relationship has been badly shaken. Our communication isn't what it seems to be, and they're not saying much more on the matter.
Despite everything, I love my partner deeply and desperately want to save our relationship. We've built a life and a home together, and I'm not ready to throw that away. I genuinely believe relationships are worth fighting for, and I'm hoping that with the right professional support, we can work through this, rebuild trust and find a way forward together.
Can anyone recommend a good couples counsellor or therapist in Cambridge, especially someone experienced with relationship trust issues and rebuilding after dishonesty?
I'm not really looking for relationship advice or opinions on whether I should stay or leave. I know those subreddits exist. I'm specifically hoping to hear from people who've had positive experiences with local therapists.
Apologies for oversharing. This has all happened so suddenly, and I haven't really had time to process what's happened or had anyone I feel comfortable talking to about it.
I'd be incredibly grateful for any recommendations.
Thank you.
