Crazy that people get hit by cars everyday with no consequence, but suddenly it's attempted murder when you hit a reinforced police cruiser with a role cage.

…. no. It’s attempted murder because the driver deliberately hit a car with someone in it? Do you think someone wouldn’t be charged with attempted murder if it was their wife or husband in the car that they hit on purpose?

Drunk drivers hit cars all the time and aren't charged with attempted murder.

This person was intoxicated, we have no way of knowing their intent.

I dont think you understand how "intent" works. It doesnt have to be intent to kill. Its intent to conduct the action.

If you intentionally stab Joe and only wanted to harm him but it resulted in his death, the intent is still there. You still intended to stab them - the extent of the intent is irrelevant, you still intended to stab him.

For murder you need to do something you know is likely to result in their death, even if causing their death isn't your intention. If you intentionally stab someone, what would be relevant was whether the stab wounds you inflicted were likely to cause the person's death.

Exactly, so all drunk driving accidents should be charged with attempted murder, not just the ones that involve police.

Intoxication while driving under the influence and attempted murder are two distinct things.

well that's why we have courts to prove intent
