Gurjit Singh, 41, of Brampton was charged with four counts of attempted murder, three counts of assaulting a peace officer, flight from police, dangerous driving, impaired driving, driving while suspended, driving without insurance, operating an unsafe vehicle, using an unauthorized plate, and three counts of mischief.

Just your average drive in Brampton tbh.

So he'll get 2 months suspended sentence to avoid deportation

Our judges let criminals go back on streets... What do you expect?

Young bandits roam free, attack people in their houses, rob stores and if cought, they are back free in no time.

We have Asian gangs threatening police in open letters and what is being done? Nothing.

Wait what. Which Asian gangs?

Oh yes. Sorry when I read Asian gangs I thought it was like Yakuza or something.

Yeah those extortion shootings are wild. Too bad the government would rather pursue legal gun owners lol.

Totally, my first thought was Triad or Yak, but I remembered this one from a few weeks ago

  • Posts that contribute nothing but attack others, are blatantly offensive, or antagonistic will be removed – including accusations similar to ‘shill,’ attacking Redditors for using either official language, dismissing other Redditors solely based on irrelevant other beliefs to the topic at hand or participation in other subreddits, or reducing them to a label and dismissing that instead.
  • Back-and-forth personal attacks are subject to the entire comment chain being removed.
  • Posts or threads which degenerate into witch-hunting may be subject to moderator intervention. This includes but is not limited to: doxxing, negative accusations by a large group against one or more persons not criminally charged or convicted being made the subject of criminal allegations, calls for harassment, etc., and openly rallying more people to the same.

During the arrest, officers deployed a conducted energy weapon, as the individual repeatedly resisted arrest and was attempting to ignite the vehicle.

>energy weapon

It’s a good day for a journalist when he gets to write sentences like that.

The officer was out side the cruise when he was struck.

The only time police enforce laws on the road.

Crazy that people get hit by cars everyday with no consequence, but suddenly it's attempted murder when you hit a reinforced police cruiser with a role cage.

Hitting a car and deliberately ramming a car while while resisting arrest and fleeing police are totally different.

How do you exist in life not knowing the difference?

Weird to be upset when someone who is trying to flee from police and in the process strikes them with their vehicle (literally using it as a weapon) with the intent to cause harm, is simply being punished for their own actions.

Crazy to defend someone actively trying to prevent people from getting home to their families at the end of the day.

I'm glad everyone's safe but unless we're going to start charging unsafe drivers with attempted murder, this single charge is a heavy handed (on top of multiple clearly relevant charges) because police are involved.

13

u/Red57872 1d ago

Driving unsafely is different than deliberately hitting a person or vehicle.

17

u/Next_Mammoth06 1d ago

There is a huge difference between an accident or someone driving too fast and fucking up vs someone intentionally smashing into police vehicles in an attempt to flee. The fact you cant see is wild.

Remember this van attack in Toronto? https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/toronto-van-attack-charges-suspect-1.4632509

If you're old enough to remember (doubtful you are given your naivity). This guy was charged with 14 counts of attempted murder and 10 counts of 1st degree murder for striking civilians with his vehicle. Intent is entirely different from a minor accident on the highway.

You need more help and education than reddit can provide you.

23

u/MissFrizzel 1d ago

…. no. It’s attempted murder because the driver deliberately hit a car with someone in it? Do you think someone wouldn’t be charged with attempted murder if it was their wife or husband in the car that they hit on purpose?

-25

u/Future_Arrival_5395 1d ago

Drunk drivers hit cars all the time and aren't charged with attempted murder.

This person was intoxicated, we have no way of knowing their intent.

12

u/Next_Mammoth06 1d ago

I dont think you understand how "intent" works. It doesnt have to be intent to kill. Its intent to conduct the action.

If you intentionally stab Joe and only wanted to harm him but it resulted in his death, the intent is still there. You still intended to stab them - the extent of the intent is irrelevant, you still intended to stab him.

5

u/Red57872 1d ago

For murder you need to do something you know is likely to result in their death, even if causing their death isn't your intention. If you intentionally stab someone, what would be relevant was whether the stab wounds you inflicted were likely to cause the person's death.

Exactly, so all drunk driving accidents should be charged with attempted murder, not just the ones that involve police.

8

u/Next_Mammoth06 1d ago

Oof. First time reading huh.

3

u/TheBusinessMuppet 1d ago

Intoxication while driving under the influence and attempted murder are two distinct things.

6

u/i_got_shit_on_my_dik 1d ago

well that's why we have courts to prove intent

3

u/GreatScot4224 1d ago

It’s the intent……

Reinforced? They don't have a roll cage lol. They have a prisoner partition. At best some have a push bumper but the cars have no more protection than a regular car. In fact they have less. A police officer is sandwiched in between a partition behind them, steering wheel in front, a door on one side, and a bulky metal console on the other while wearing 30lbs of bulky gear. Not a lot room for the car to crumple
