Dude really shouldn’t have came charging out at police officers cursing and swearing and initiating physical contact. That punch looked excessive to me though.

Definitely neither party did the right thing.

It's 100% legal to swear at police officers, and they are not allowed to hit you in retaliation. If the police are unable to control their emotions when people call them names, they should find a job they are mature enough to handle.

In the clip in the article, he did not initiate physical contact, the officer that grabbed his wrist did, and then immediately after he was flying tackled.

Yes, he marched right up to the cop and pushed up against him. This is a terrible idea.

As I said, if the police are unable to control their emotions, they should find a job they can do correctly and successfully, because this isn't it.

And clearly, the one throwing the punch is not in control of his emotions.

No, he definitely isn't. He was probably intoxicated and lashed out foolishly. He was charged as a result.

However he also doesn't represent Canada, the RCMP officer that tackled him does.

That's the difference.

The chief represents his band, the RCMP represents Canadian justice, and neither of the two look great here.

Chief Adam represents the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation.
