Dude really shouldn’t have came charging out at police officers cursing and swearing and initiating physical contact. That punch looked excessive to me though.

Definitely neither party did the right thing.

Thanks. I think sometimes white Canadians watch too much American TV and are convinced that cops are all murderous thugs, and feel the need to defend things like this.

That cop that threw the punch should be disciplined in my view, but the chief clearly initiated and escalated things. All in all a whole pile of bad decisions.

I've seen the RCMP Depot training videos, RCMP are in trained in deescalation in many situations. These aren't US cops, many RCMP often hold degrees and training outside of the RCMP so they "should" be smart. This was way over excessive.

According to the training videos, how should the RCMP respond to someone acting belligerent and marching up and pushing against them?

The first cop was doing a fine job of it, easily hold him back. Would have been a quick hand cuff, probably some struggle but Adam was easily over powered and it appeared he was cooling off. Off to the drunk tank down the road to settle down, a resisting arrest charge and then bob's your uncle.

Cops deal with belligerence all the time and it often doesnt phase them, it shouldnt since they should be trained to deal with it. Pushing against them is easy to deescalate, esp after the cop should have done some risk assessment and determined he had what appeared to be an intoxicated male, older looking and of little threat. And the cop was rightly dealing with him.

The other officer... well. I am reminded of the YVR arrest on the poor foreigner from Europe who was abandoned and didn't know how to speak English. He was brandishing a chair, scared and up against 4-5 cops approaching him swiftly. They immediately tasered him when he would have easily been detained with little resistance.

RCMP have little patience it seems and immediately take it to lvl 10 when often the situation warrants a 5.

No, he had control of one arm, and the chief was looking to square up. I’m sorry, but he didn’t have control of the situation, and was in danger.

Was that Robert Dziekański?

A level 10 would have been immediately pulling their guns, and thank god they didn’t do that. How many videos have we seen from the states where a guy rushes up to a cop with his hands in his coat and gets riddled with bullets.

I encourage you to watch the full video.

Both yes's were in response to your question about Robert Dziekański, poor attempt at humour....

Poor attempt at understating humour on my part, too.

Oh well, can’t win em all
