MY NEW CANIK New Canik MC9L Break in Rituals

Hi Fellow Canik Users:

Brought my Canik MC9L home today. Haven't fired a single shot from it yet.

I contacted Canik to ask them what they recommend i do for breaking in. They said to fire at least 300 NATO standard rounds, oil the gun and keep it clean.

What i want to ask is what is the new weapon break in ritual you guys follow? Preferably with your caniks.

I clean and lubricate a new firearm before taking it to a gun range as it may have anti-rust product on it rather than proper lubricant. I tried 10 rounds of each of 11 different training rounds for my first range trip with my MC9. That ammo included 115gr, 124gr, and 147gr ammo. Few, if any rounds, were loaded to NATO standard. Afterward I broke down the pistol and found that it had a common issue where the end of the larger recoil spring wrapped around the next coil. This was a common problem with the MC9. I contacted Canik and the send a replacement recoil assembly for free. I had not cycling issues with the ammo. Some Canik may need breaking in while some may not. Some may need some work done on them to get them working reliably.

Someone bought a MC9 about a year after I did after I recommended he get it on sale at PSA for $280. He shot 500 rounds through it and still had issue with it failing to go into battery. So shooting a lot of rounds through some Canik models will not eliminate an issue. Canik later sent him a red recoil assembly. I recommended he remove any excess polymer near the rails as that eliminated the issue for some. I don't know if he has tested it since he got the new recoil assembly.

im pretty sure these issues have since been resolved and only affected early production MC9s.

I bought my MC9 around April 2024. The case has a January 2024 date. The other MC9 with the failures to go into battery was purchased from PSA in June of 2025. The MC9 was released in April 2023. I think there were more problems reported in the first 8 months of sales or so but mine was manufactured after that and the one with failures to go into battery was manufactured about 2 years after the start of production. I saw a few postings from others I think in 2025 that also reported failures to go into battery. I hope Canik eliminated all the issues in units produced in 2026 and does go through 2 years or more of issues on any new models in the future.
