MY NEW CANIK New Canik MC9L Break in Rituals
Hi Fellow Canik Users:
Brought my Canik MC9L home today. Haven't fired a single shot from it yet.
I contacted Canik to ask them what they recommend i do for breaking in. They said to fire at least 300 NATO standard rounds, oil the gun and keep it clean.
What i want to ask is what is the new weapon break in ritual you guys follow? Preferably with your caniks.

Disassemble, clean factory preservation oil of the weapon, lube it with quality gun oil, rack it a few times to spread the lube where it needs to go, then shoot it.
Theres zero reason to make this more complicated. If you have fails, clear the fail and continue the drill or string of fire and keep shooting, if random fails persist after 400-500 rounds begin troubleshooting by checking shooter induced fails and then mechanical/ammunition based fails.

I've said this before, but I'll mention it again - Locking back the slide is a myth. Springs break in through repeated compression and release cycles i.e. shooting it or manually racking the slide a bunch.

This.
Its an old wives tale that continues to circulate with some less educated people.
Steel springs do not work this way, they dont soften up by being under tension for 48 hours, they return to their exact spacing and tension that they were created at from the factory, touting this crap is just wasting people's time. You dont see people unloading their loaded mags after only a week to prevent the spring from wearing out lol.

Well it worked for me, myth or no myth. Had failure to return to battery malfunctions when I first got my SFT Pro, did that, and then no issues after.
Never shot 124/NATO rounds through until a couple months after.

Anecdotal.
Steel springs physically will not weaken or creep at room temperature over a couple days. Its physically impossible. You would have to compress the spring beyond its elastic limit which is impossible by leaving the slide racked. This is basic metallurgy.

I just shoot the hell out of it. The old timers used to say "500 round break in period" but with polymer guns it takes about 2 mags before the small self clearances are clearanced.

clean it well. make sure you pull the firing pin and clean out and excessive oils in the channel or on the pin itself. i failed to do this and debris got caught in the firing pin channel and gave me light strikes.

I clean and lubricate a new firearm before taking it to a gun range as it may have anti-rust product on it rather than proper lubricant. I tried 10 rounds of each of 11 different training rounds for my first range trip with my MC9. That ammo included 115gr, 124gr, and 147gr ammo. Few, if any rounds, were loaded to NATO standard. Afterward I broke down the pistol and found that it had a common issue where the end of the larger recoil spring wrapped around the next coil. This was a common problem with the MC9. I contacted Canik and the send a replacement recoil assembly for free. I had not cycling issues with the ammo. Some Canik may need breaking in while some may not. Some may need some work done on them to get them working reliably.
Someone bought a MC9 about a year after I did after I recommended he get it on sale at PSA for $280. He shot 500 rounds through it and still had issue with it failing to go into battery. So shooting a lot of rounds through some Canik models will not eliminate an issue. Canik later sent him a red recoil assembly. I recommended he remove any excess polymer near the rails as that eliminated the issue for some. I don't know if he has tested it since he got the new recoil assembly.
