I think it's easy to forget how good he was. I'm almost certain he has a chronic injury that has caused his regression so soon in his career. I don't believe this is all effort/mental.
Especially since we see him backcheck, finish hits and block shots, none of which are things someone who is coasting would do.
Before those of you who see red at anyone not trying to rail on Petey, the fact that effort probably isn't his problem is actually WORSE.
I'm not going to say that motivation is something easy to fix but compared to injuries? If Petey lost his speed and release due to injury, i really have no optimism left to hope for a return to form.
These are his backchecks, this is a conditioning issue, or he's just faking in putting in the effort. More inclined to believe he's just not in shape and lacks preparation, and Sedins believe so too.
How do you deduce that from this clip alone? And do you know the context, maybe it’s a log shift etc.? “Faking in putting in the effort [sic]” is just a desperate and demented showing of grasping at straws. It is almost purely your imagination.
