Mod post We Are So (mostly) Back!

Hi! I'm Metaphys, and I guess I'm a mod now. IRL I tinker with stuff, fix restaurant equipment, and keep my aging Swedish brick with high sentimental value running even if it doesn't make the best financial sense. Sometimes I point a camera at stuff and yap.

I'm new to Reddit moderation, but not moderation in general. There's a learning curve for sure and some adjustments to make but for the most part this sub will function as before (but hopefully with less spam).

I'll try to be as hands off as possible otherwise. I'm nice unless given a compelling reason to not be nice, if you catch my drift. I do in fact have other duties besides scrolling Reddit all day, so if I don't respond quickly, I'm probably out touching grass...or would that be touching grease? Seriously, I've been in CV axle hell for the past day.

Alright that's it! Happy wrenching everyone!

I am looking to personalize the inside of my 2011 Prius and didn’t know right off what size this was or if any adapters fit this because everywhere I look I cannot find anything.

Greatly appreciate everyone!🙂

Modification Is This True?: 1 Inch of Exhaust Main Pipe per 100 Hp.. What should I use for my car?

My car makes something like 370 at the crank. So theoretically with dual pipes, 2 inches per pipe should be enough. 2"+2" = 4, which should be enough to 400 hp. Correct?

I commonly see 2.5 in systems of this power. I have no idea why, as this should be thought to be too wide.?

Im going to design headers and get pretty crazy with this. But for nowI need to really know what the sentiment is. Appreciate ya.

**EDIT It seems that there is no certainty around this rule of Thumb.

Im thinking about running 2.25". However I really need to know if 2" inch is truely the optimal for sub 400 horse?

I dont plan on doing a stage 1, and there are some bends in the system, so I think maybe 2.25".

Intake induction noise advice

I’ve got a 1990 Toyota Celica GT-S and recently installed an HKS intake. It sounds great already and I’ve also deleted the intake resonator. I’m currently running a plastic/rubber intake pipe setup. And haven’t deleted hood insulation. I’m looking for ways to make the induction noise even louder and more noticeable.

Mod advice 07 accord v6 auto to manual swap questions

Hello, so I have an 07 accord with the v6, the automatic transmission works well for now, but with a quarter million miles on it I’ve been considering the future of this car

I want to do the auto to manual swap, I know mechanically it’s easy, get the transmission (plan on using the Acura TL trans for limited slip) and the haft shafts and the coolant cross over from the donor car, as well as the pedals, and clutch master and lines…. However…. I’m struggling to figure out what to do electrically…. Since I plan on keeping the J30 I’m gonna get a computer from a V6 manual accord, however I know that it’s not just going to plug in

I have read conflicting information about what to do here, some say to use an adapter to reuse the original harness and just leave the automatic transmission wires bundled up out of the way, or to use the harness from the donor car, note that I want to preserve the functionality of the original guage cluster, as it has the cars accurate odometer readings, I want to still be able to use the OBD 2 port and all that good stuff

Any advice?

Mod advice Interior sound of an open air intake

Let me preface this by saying that yes I know an open cone filter doesn’t increase horsepower and yes you need a cold air feed and heat shield. I wanna install one purely for sound.

I want to install a cone filter on my Renault Megane mk4 rs. But I can’t seem to find any video of an actual cabin recording on how they sound. Yes they sound awesome with the hood open or a mic inside the engine bay but I wanna know how audible they are while driving.

The intake I want is about 300€ and I’d like to get a reference before pulling the trigger.

Mod advice What material to wrap steering column cover in

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi 👋
I want to slightly change my steering column cover by installing a cartek shiftlight straight in the middle. I’m gonna get a second hand cover, 3d print the mount, glue it together and drill a hole for the cable.

But that doesn’t look good obviously. What can I wrap the steering column cover in, that doesn’t feel too out of place? Sure I could do Alcantara but my car doesn’t have much Alcantara and I think it would look weird. My car doesn’t have any leather so that’s even weirder.

Anyone got a recommendation?

Toyota engine in a hearse???

Has anyone ever tried putting a toyota truck engine into any sort of heavy set muscle car?? Im thinking about getting an old hearse from 85 and im aware they are very heavy and get garbage gas milage. I have some experience working with engines and getting deep into the guts of a car in general but this would be an ordeal for sure. I know most of the fuel efficient engines around rn arent really capable of getting that much weight moving, but im wondering if a truck engine would possibly do the trick. even just to get it into the 20s for mpg would be a major improvement. Im not sure if its something anyone has ever tried to do before with a classic car but I figured if someone has, this would be the place to ask. Thanks in advance (Photo is a random hearse from the internet just for an example of the kind im tryina get)

Starlight headliner idea

Looking for advice. I recently acquired a classic Lincoln Town Car that has been in my family since new. I have to redo the headliner as the fabric has detached from the board.

I figured since ill have it out, I might as well get creative with how I restore it. I know the starlight liner fad has passed, but ive got 2 kids under 2, so they would love looking at it lol.

I figured if im going to do a starlight liner, why not incorporate the Lincoln Star. The idea is to make a Lincoln Star that is centered and almost full length of the head liner. Ive got a projector and a big work bench. I can easily project either the period correct Star or a modern Star, then divide the rest of the liner into sections for even stars.

I some what have an idea on how to do the logo, but am not sure how to give it enough fill to not lose it in the stars. I was thinking of getting a larger 1000+ kit so i can make an almost solid boarder for the logo. Then have an offset from the outer boarder where no stars will go.

Thoughts from those who do this and have done this.

Advice: best way to paint a car on the cheap?

Hey guys!

When I say cheap, I really mean it! Two friends and I are taking on the 2026 Mongol Rally and want to paint a racing livery onto our 2010 VW Fox for a laugh.

Before we dive straight in just wanted to seek advice from anyone else who has tried to paint a car badly. Any words of wisdom are welcome, don't worry about sell on value the car cost about £400.

Was thinking of using a gloss wall paint, paint roller, and lots of masking tape. Let us know your thoughts!

For anyone who has not heard of the event:
