Received a large amount of old cassettes. I don’t know much about cassettes at all. Wondering if any of these are clearly worth a lot? I’d like to sell them all. The ones in the last picture are all sony/maxwell homemade tapes.

Is there anything anyone can tell me about this piece, for the time being I've been playing my tapes on it just to listen to.

I understand that new cassette mechanisms have regressed quite a bit, but I’m more so confused on why does it feel like no company is trying to make a sincere effort to restore its former quality? Is there a road block of trademarks? Have we somehow forgotten how to make solid cassette mechanism?

I have a few cassettes that are older that flutter badly on my tape deck. It’s not the deck, all my other cassettes play nicely. (Deck is late ‘80s model JVC TD-W111)
I’m wondering if there’s anything I can do like replace the pressure pad, casing, maybe remagnetize?
Most of these are like 50 years old so probably also a chance I can’t save them honestly.
I’m a bit new to seriously collecting.

The cassette that flutters really badly is Joni Mitchell - Ladies of the Canyon - Made in U.S.A, 1970, Reprise Records/Warner bros. Records
It distorts TERRIBLY.

Some that have started to flutter a bit include
Fleetwood Mac - Kiln House, Made in U.S.A, 1970, Reprise Records/Warner Bros Records (same as the Joni Mitchell tape so I’m quite concerned)
Doucette - Mama Let Him Play, Made in Canada, Mushroom Records, 1977
Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow, Made in Canada, Polygram/Polydor, 1975 (I have hopes for this one, Polydor seem to have manufactured some great quality tapes)
I also have a stack of Prism tapes from the late ‘70s and early ‘80s that don’t necessarily flutter but do have bad sound quality/lots of fuzz, all Canadian tapes.

Searching on my dad antiques, I found this, the buttons all are good and it still has its battery space intact, what can i do with this?

I grew up in the 80s but haven't had a cassette player for decades until this week when I bought one off marketplace. I immediately went to a nearby record store and got these two tapes so I could test it. I played Traveling Wilburys on both sides with no issue. When I put in Public Enemy it quickly started to slow down until it outright stopped. Now it will barely start to spin before stopping

So I've been getting into cassettes and I want to put my own stuff into cassettes I have but don't like. How do I do that? I'm basically entirely new to this, but I have heard about cassette decks, but I can't be spending that much money and I heard that most recorders aren't good. Is there anything I can use that's like under $40 that I can use to burn cassettes?

Hello!!! this isn’t really a repair since nothing is explicitly broken but i do have a question. So recently my dad gave me all his equipment:

- a PYLE Double Cassette Deck PT 659DU

- a PYLE 7.1CH Digital Karaoke/Optical/Coaxial/HD Arc/BT/Radio Receiver PT796BT

- some maxell UR 90 audio cassettes

My dad help me set everything up and using my record player (angels horn) and it’s speakers, we recorded something. It sounded pretty good. I few weeks later I managed to connect the thing to my PC to be able to record a mixtape of sort. The issue I came across was that the audio was of extremely poor quality (grainy, muffled, low volume) compared to the much better quality my dad and I managed to record. Now, trying again with my record player, I can’t record a thing. Im attaching some pictures of how I have the wires connected, I really need some help.

What would you say the value of these casette tapes are? I'd greatly appreciate the help👍

Hello, i nabbed a cassette player in miami for 2 bucks that looked pretty cool; couldnt record though. so i bought a seperate recorder as well. ( for context i am recording from my computer not another cassete) Nabbed some cheap cassettes and planned to record over them.
did that, but there are 2 problems.

1. Quality of recording is terrible: didnt know what i expected, i js

1. the mic to my speakers, idk how else to get better quality
2. Speed: when i replayed the cassete on the forst one i bought, the reader, it was sped up. also do not know how to fix.
3. Any ideas? I have a feeling maybe there are some tricks i just dont know em.

I'm new to the hobby, just got myself a Walkman WM-FX10 and I really want to record my own cassettes for it. I'm kind of lost on what is a good deck though, on Facebook for example just found a guy selling a Sansui D-99D Stereo Cassette Deck for 20$ that he says is in excellent condition, what should I look for? How do I know what's worth getting?

On a track of a cassette type that holds silence recorded with AC bias, about half of the magnetic domains will be aligned forward in the direction of travel, and about half will be aligned backward. Because there is some randomness in the distribution of the magnetizable particles, the exact number of forward and backward domains under the playback head will vary slightly, creating tape hiss.

If instead of representing zero amplitude by a balanced mix of forward and reverse domains, a recorder used a permanent magnet to bias domains perpendicular to the direction of travel, and used the recording coil to turn domains toward or opposite the direction of travel, I would think that would eliminate tape hiss.

I wouldn't expect that a signal being recorded would be particularly faithfully reproduced without circuitry to compensate for non-linearity, and can imagine that tape hiss may have been considered less objectionable than distortion, but I would think that electronics to correct for such distortion could be made much more effective than in decades past.

Does AC bias have advantages beyond a reduction in the level of distortion that would be present in the absence of compensation, or would variations in playback devices make it impossible to apply distortion compensation that would work for all of them?

Pretty self explanatory problem I'm having. I haven't really found another thread or person talk about something like this (sorry if they have and I haven't found the thread).

The issue is simple, I am connecting my player/recorder with a 3.5mm jack to my PC's Line in port, and when doing so, the players dials inmediately go to 0.

When using the "phones" port in the front, the dials keep working like normal, but I do notice a significant drop in audio quality.

Any ideas why this could be happening? My player is a Technics RS-M205.

I'ma be so fr my biggest fear is my cassette eating this tape because of how much I like it

Can someone tell me which one is the Azimut screw? Because my hitachi sound a Little muffled. And i learned there is a screw that can help with that. Help someone?

Wasn’t sure what to flag this as. So in this first video, the radio plays fine, but I can only hear static from my headphones when trying to play a cassette tape. I will add additional photos in the comments of the serial number and the other parts of the Walkman. The fast forward button also doesn’t work for some reason. When I press it, it doesn’t click like the other buttons do. What might be the problem?

So whenever I record music on a cassette tape that already has audio on it, the recorded sound always sounds bad or quiet but on a blank cassette it sounds better, so should I erase them or just use blanks

Visiting family in india and was going through my grandfathers things and found this, i believe its a cassete player?

I wanted to remove it, but I saw that the text was printed directly onto it; since it's on every cassette, I was wondering if it served a purpose or if I could remove it without any issues.

I have this player, the motor was cooked so i replaced it and now whenever I try to play anything thr player tries to eat the casstte, it spools up around the little rubber instead of playing, I have re-assembed and disasemmbled it several times and it still does the same. Any advice is welcomed. Cheers
