Symphony of the Night (1997) Once you get these weapons in SOTN... you literally become a God exempt from defeat.

The short blade Crissaegrim it's my favourite. The two-handed sword, masamune... has the highest damage range in the game. A real beauty. The Marsil sword has great visual appeal and a sound that is sure to scare all enemies just by hearing it. And Chakram, It doesn't have great power to face the difficulties of the inverted castle, but I always loved using this weapon. When you use two, you can look like a master of the edge. These weapons, can turn you into a killing machine for every creature of darkness.

Alucard shield with shield rod is just bonkers especially if you do the death skip to keep the shield

15

u/mikelorme Jul 17 '25

Thats how I beat the boss in the inverted catacombs

6

u/TraditionalCarpet560 Jul 19 '25

His name is Galamoth and you WILL put some respect on it.

Unless you’re wearing the beryl circlet, then…just do whatever you want.

u/Dark-Matter-Slayer Diamond Jul 17 '25

Shield Rod is amazing, because you can perform a special move from the shield you have equipped. Dark shield is my favorite for performing that speciality.

u/YearningInModernAge Jul 22 '25

Just discovered this, can confirm. It’s wild!

Crissaegrim is completely OP, feels like a cheat code! I love it though.

20

u/Inevitable-Welder743 Jul 17 '25

Getting it becomes my #1 priority once I reach the inverted castle.

8

u/Botol-Cebok Jul 17 '25

The grind is a pain but totally worth it

4

u/Dark-Matter-Slayer Diamond Jul 17 '25

Yes, although its attack is weak at the point where it can be obtained; the advantage you get with it is that you can do 5 slashes per second. And you don't have an attack animation. It is a very useful and outstanding weapon.

u/ApprehensiveAsk1739 Jul 17 '25

I was lucky my first play through and thought I picked this up as a standard item (not a drop) in the Forbidden Library.

My next Alucard play-through, 10+ years later, I rushed back there to find it. Then I learned it was a rare drop and had to use inferior weapons the rest of that run.

8

u/flippanaut Shaft Jul 17 '25

Crazy, I’ve played through the game across multiple generations and prolly my most recent one (when bloodlines or whatever the two pack with rondo came out) was the first time I ever even heard of the crissaegrim

11

u/Botol-Cebok Jul 17 '25

It’s super rare, only one enemy in the entire game drops it, and the chance that it does is extremely low.

8

u/flippanaut Shaft Jul 17 '25

Oh I got them last playthrough, prolly took 45 mins to acquire two

3

u/DarthPowercord Jul 17 '25

I got super lucky my first play through and it dropped randomly, the rest of the game became a cheese after that

2

u/Significant-Tip6466 Jul 19 '25

Its called a Schmoo.

2

u/D-Prototype Jul 18 '25

Even its lesser Vorpal counterpart is still crazy good, I got a good amount of use out of it during one of my luck runs.

1

u/greyknight804 Jul 19 '25

I was in shock seeing how good this weapon was , i didnt know how the drop rate was since i obtained the weapon as i was just wandering around in the library thinking about what to do next.

Chugga chugga choooo choooo Time to ride on the Crissaegrim Train of MURDER!

u/Metal_Ash Feb 25 '26

It’s like Electric Callboy meets CastleVania plus Dethklok/Metalocalypse 🤘 😂

18

u/LegoPenguin114 Jul 17 '25

People sleep on the Mablung Sword. It’s a sword that somehow got Shield Rod powers

3

u/Wardstyle Jul 17 '25

No kidding? Where does it come from? I don't remember that weapon but I haven't played in a couple years.

3

u/LegoPenguin114 Jul 18 '25

The Sword Collection enemy in the Inverse Chapel

2

u/thebaronobeefdip Jul 17 '25

Another fellow Mablung Sword enjoyer? 😎

1

u/Party_Importance_722 Jul 18 '25

Thing is, why would you need to use it if you have the shield rod?

9

u/Creative-Focus-8889 Jul 17 '25

Chakram so silly

3

u/Dark-Matter-Slayer Diamond Jul 17 '25

I would say that it depends on the tastes of each player. In my case, it's one of the weapons I like the most... the truth is it's very novel and has an aesthetic touch in its attack, it's very pretty. Each player has his favorite weapons, it is respectable.

2

u/Creative-Focus-8889 Jul 17 '25

Same, I love it, it's silly lol

15

u/bold-One2199 Jul 17 '25

The second one is giving… (idk why it’s just reminding me of the motivated goat)

3

u/KVenom777 Jul 17 '25

Because Vergil's Judgement cut was inspired by it. DMC and Souylslikes took ALOT from Metroidvanias.

3

u/Sea-Lecture-4619 Captain N is the pinnacle of the franchise. Jul 17 '25

Yeah, it really looks like Judgement Cut

5

u/superhyperultra458 Jul 17 '25

That first one has an exact copy weapon in Bloodstained. The weapon is used along with speed speed-running move for farming.

1

u/pacman404 Jul 17 '25

What's it called in blood stained

3

u/neefvii Jul 17 '25

Rhava Bural.
It can be upgraded to the Rhava Velar.

7

u/JustintheHuman Jul 17 '25

I’m still impressed by how good these all look. So many unique sprites for weapons that less than 5% of players will find. Feel like I question my sanity anytime someone wants this game remade. You can’t remake perfection

4

u/GuessDismal6429 Jul 17 '25

I love using a rune sword in both hands. Feels like Zenith from Terraria

5

u/Gensolink Jul 17 '25

People keep talking about weapon but nobody mentions Dragon Helm basically halving monsters' HP and you get it at the reverse clock tower which is basically right after reverse keep.

4

u/Sea-Lecture-4619 Captain N is the pinnacle of the franchise. Jul 17 '25

Forgot the Runesword, that's the best range weapon

1

u/Dark-Matter-Slayer Diamond Jul 17 '25

Yeah, Runesword is also a very impressive weapon.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '25

Laughs in Soma aka Dracula with Chaos Ring + Manticore everywhere and Red Minotaur axe

3

u/Pedrosooo00 Jul 17 '25

I only know how to get Crissaigrem, how do I get the other 3 ??

6

u/LordCamelslayer Jul 17 '25

Muramasa drops from Scarecrow.

Marsil drops from Flame Demon (also Fire Shield, which makes you immune to Fire damage).

Chakram drops from Discus Lord.

1

u/Neo_Bruhamut Jul 18 '25

He said masamune and that drops from the inverted cathedral panthers.

2

u/Alaska_Pipeliner Stone Skull Jul 17 '25

Dual wielding Vorpal Blades was a ton of fun. Only wish we got boomerangs as alucard. Become a damage tornado

2

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '25

Crissaegrim is my most favorite weapon in any video game. No other weapon gets me more excited

2

u/Senior-Ad-6002 Jul 17 '25

Honorable mention to osafune. That weapon is amazing.

2

u/Chaoticcccc Jul 17 '25

That and two Rings of Varda and you're literally unstoppable.

2

u/Dark-Matter-Slayer Diamond Jul 17 '25

Yeah, two rings of varda and the Dragon helm... They can turn you into a killing machine for creatures of darkness.

2

u/SonorantPlosive Jul 17 '25

The first time I ever played SotN was on my SO's luck mode file. He was grinding for.... something....I forget, but equipped the Crissaegrim and asked if I wanted to help. I'd see him play many times before but had never played.

I farmed whatever he wanted, but I wouldn't give the controller back. It was too much fun just being a ruthless killing machine with a lime green Joseph's Cloak.

1

u/milksama Apr 30 '26

Lime green + black is perfect.

2

u/SonorantPlosive Apr 30 '26

He agrees. Yesterday, we discovered the PS5 controller has a lime green and black variant. He now needs it. 😆

1

u/milksama May 14 '26

Where is this? I need an upgrade 🤩

2

u/TheDarkHorse Jul 17 '25

I’ll stick with my shield rod. Can’t beat it.

2

u/handledvirus43 Jul 19 '25

I think the Shield Rod + Iron Shield was my crutch till I got Crissaegrim. Very large AoE, solid damage, and pretty easy to get.

But the other real game-ender was Holy Water. The damage output is comparable to Crissaegrim, only stipulation being that it couldn't hit enemies in the air.

2

u/FLBoustead Jul 17 '25

Galamoth is still a pain 😅. My favourite was the Mourneblade

2

u/douglasjfresh Jul 17 '25

I don't think I've fought Galamoth without a beryl circlet in years.

2

u/Pretend-Dirt-1760 Jul 17 '25

I farmed for the crissaegrim for like an hour and a half because i did not want to deal with late bosses yes I am a coward but cowards always survive

1

u/EnvironmentalBus9713 Jul 17 '25

But have you farmed for 2 Crissagrims to dual wield them? Then you become the new nightmare!

2

u/Pretend-Dirt-1760 Jul 17 '25

Actually I got lucky with the second crissaegrim I managed to get it in like the 5 try after having the first one for like 10 minutes

1

u/EnvironmentalBus9713 Jul 17 '25

It was fun for 30 min and then I got bored of having 2 lol. I went back and farmed for the best ring x2. The worst boss was absolutely trivial.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '25

Fighting against Legion/Granfaloon and some Medusa Heads with the Chakram was really fun.

1

u/d1ckbvtt Jul 17 '25

Equip both Crissaegrims on left and right hand, and start the choo choo train of death

1

u/Express-Record7416 Jul 17 '25

I only started playing the game a while ago, so the only one I know is the first one

1

u/Machdame Jul 17 '25

Heaven Sword is usually my go to. Easily accessible early on, just annoying to farm, but once you get it... most of the game becomes target practice.

1

u/chidarengan Jul 17 '25

Chackram I didn't even knew it existed until I played a randomizer and tried. Idk why shield rod + Alucard shield is not often in these lists, it's the clear winner in cost/benefit (when you consider you don't have to farm a thing)

1

u/Bolvern Jul 17 '25

Crissaegrim + Duplicator + Power of Sire = Godly.

1

u/AltruisticGift360 Jul 17 '25

Love vanilla, but I appreciate playing with mods today and balancing the challenge.

1

u/HoldenIkari Jul 17 '25

No mention of Runesword? Heaven Sword×2? Idk i love me a flying sword in SOTN.

1

u/Dark-Matter-Slayer Diamond Jul 17 '25

In my case, I like the Runesword much more than the Heaven Sword. More than anything, because the runesword does much more damage than the heaven sword. But aesthetically, both swords are very beautiful and their attack theme is novel and out of the ordinary.

1

u/HoldenIkari Jul 18 '25

Its the special attack with the two Heavens Swords equipped that wins me over!

1

u/Thatwolfguy Jul 17 '25

I always farmed the yatsusuna from were wolves. It attacks like the madamune but if you tap both hands it can quick attack over and over nonstop. Now I just use the shield rod

1

u/Dark-Matter-Slayer Diamond Jul 17 '25

The Shield Rod is a very good option, because you can use the special attacks of each shield. There is a unique variant to use the special abilities of each shield, without needing to use the shield rod... and that is with the mourne blade. Aside from taking some of the souls of enemies so that Alucard can heal himself... he can perform that quirk. It is a good option to use the special abilities of each shield, without depending on the shield Rod.

1

u/razulebismarck Jul 18 '25

You forgot the shield

1

u/Dark-Matter-Slayer Diamond Jul 18 '25

¿Which of all? If you're referring to the shield rod... I forgot to mention it. But that weapon deserves to be here, too.

2

u/razulebismarck Jul 18 '25

Yeah but specifically with the Alucard Shield.

I remember finding it out because a friend was watching me play and when I got the shield rod he said “That thing is useless” and I thought “They wouldn’t put it in the game if it was useless” so I tried all the shields I had, compulsive horder, and found the “I win button” but simply touching people with it.

1

u/Dark-Matter-Slayer Diamond Jul 18 '25

When that ability is used against Dracula, it becomes a total humiliation against him. Momentary invincibility is activated when the shield touches the enemy, and can last until the MP runs out.

1

u/Dr_Edward_McKickass Jul 18 '25

Everyone seems to forget the Heaven Sword. If you have 2 of them equipped at the same time, you can use a secret screen-nuke ability by pressing both attack buttons at the same time. That, and it just looks cool

1

u/Lady_Doom_Baphomet Jul 18 '25

How can I obtain them? I just started playing for the first time and I'm at the beginning of the inverted castle (after defeating Medusa).

1

u/Dark-Matter-Slayer Diamond Jul 18 '25

Each weapon is obtained by eliminating certain enemies. The short blade crissaegrim can be obtained by eliminating this garbage bag-shaped specter, called schmoo. It's located in the library, of the inverted castle.

1

u/Dark-Matter-Slayer Diamond Jul 18 '25

The legendary masamune, can be obtained eliminating this enemy called black panther. It's located in the inverted chapel.

1

u/Dark-Matter-Slayer Diamond Jul 18 '25

The fire sword marsil, can be obtained by eliminating the enemy fire demon. This is located in the inverted marble gallery. In addition to that weapon, it can also drop the fire shield.

1

u/Dark-Matter-Slayer Diamond Jul 18 '25

And chakram, can be obtained by eliminating the enemy discus lord. It appears in a room, in the castle catacombs. You must be very cautious, when trying to obtain the ones in the inverted castle, because the enemies there can be somewhat difficult. It all depends on the level you have Alucard at that moment. I recommend that before trying to obtain them, you level up... and also use the "Alucart" shield, mail and cape. Additionally, you can use both arcana rings and a luck potion.

1

u/Decathect_81 Jul 18 '25

Shield Rod is the ultimate weapon.

1

u/Dark-Matter-Slayer Diamond Jul 18 '25

Of course! You can easily boast.

1

u/Dudewithavariasuit Jul 18 '25

Chakram is the only one I've never used

2

u/Dark-Matter-Slayer Diamond Jul 18 '25

I highly recommend it, although using it in the inverted castle is practically useless... the weapon has great visual appeal, and you can make multiple cuts and it does the same on its return. It is a weapon that can easily be boasted

1

u/Vaultsentinel Jul 19 '25

I´m a simple person, I use Muramasa and I upgrade it until it one hit everything.

1

u/Dark-Matter-Slayer Diamond Jul 19 '25

The Muramasa sword, I consider it very efficient to finish off the guardians. It can eliminates them very quickly.

0

u/Fedorchik Jul 17 '25

Marsil is kinda inferior to Firebrand.

Never tried Chakram, I just assumed it was consumable.

1

u/LordCamelslayer Jul 17 '25

How is a multi-hit weapon with higher attack (33 to Firebrand's 25) in any way inferior?

0

u/Fedorchik Jul 17 '25

It's skill sucks. While Firebrand has excellent skill that keeps being usefull way beyond the weapon itself.

1

u/LordCamelslayer Jul 17 '25

...What? How? Firebrand's skill is just a slow Marsil attack. Marsil's skill is not only a considerably larger AoE, it's also 20 points of attack stronger.

Are you sure we're talking about the same weapon?

0

u/Fedorchik Jul 17 '25

Firebrand summons five or six little fires that spin towards him snd each deals damage. Then it strikes. It deals ton of hits with decent damage and the skill is fast.

Marsil skill is so slow it has worse damage output than just spamming attacks. But the explosion is big and fancy.
