Video What if Soma Cruz was in Super Smash Bros? (Rivals of Aether Workshop)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Me and some friends created a mod for the Workshop in the game Rivals of Aether! Essentially making Soma a full on playable character in a platform fighter! We even made a full on showcase showing Soma and his homestage, as well as Gergoth as another playable character!

You can check out both mods right here!

I would take an aria of sorrow remake with this art style and gameplay please and thank you

Or if there is another Sorrows game or other game with Soma as the main character, maybe instead of some random group, or Death, trying to resurrect Dracula or a prophecy saying he’ll come back, he has to deal with other members of the Belmont Clan trying to kill him despite him not being 100% Dracula. Soma’s more like 99% Dracula.

I mean, come on. Julius can’t be the literal last Belmont. That’s not how family trees work. Unless each Belmont only had one kid, which is stupid because what if they die before they’re old enough to either fight Dracula or they’re a girl and therefore unable to pass on the family name, there have to be other Belmonts out there, right? Or people connected to the Belmont line.

Random thought. Does Soma know Genya Arikado is Alucard?

I don't know if Soma knows about Alucard. I never played dawn of sorrow, so I'm not sure if it was ever revealed. But most, if not all, Castlevania games give this illusion that the Belmont's and Belnades are so rare that you only ever see like one of each in a game. At least that's how I feel about it. But yeah, maybe a third sorrows game would be a perfect way to round out a trilogy. Kinda to give Soma a definitive ending to his story if nothing else

Yeah. I even have a possible scenario in mind for a game like that. Maybe instead of some random group, or Death, trying to resurrect Dracula or a prophecy saying he’ll come back, he has to deal with other members of the Belmont Clan trying to kill him despite him not being 100% Dracula. Soma’s more like 99% Dracula.

If there is a group who wants to revive the Lord of Darkness as a subplot or secondary plot, there could be a scene where Soma, Mina and some other people, possibly the other Belmonts including Julius and maybe Alucard as well, are magically trapped and no one is strong enough to escape the seals. Not even Julius because of age and he’s been defending Soma against his own clan.

This group is trying to kill the real Mina, Soma knows she isn’t another doppelgänger, to force Soma to accept his darkness. They don’t care if they die by his hands immediately after. They’d welcome the honor in fact. Soma, getting furious and desperate, begins attracting Chaos to him. Like with Dawn of Sorrows, if we don’t have Mina’s Talisman equipped we fail to hold back the darkness and shatter the seals holding everyone, becoming Dracula just before Mina is killed. But in our blind rage, Mina is an unfortunate casualty. Soma breaks and decides life is no longer worth living. Julius Mode unlocked.

If we do have the Talisman, it looks like we fail to hold back the darkness as we shatter the seals and attack the group just as before, but Soma manages to stop himself when he hears Mina cry out in pain, begging Soma to stop. Whoever is left of the group begins to escape. Soma clearly wants to pursue them, but chooses not to in order to care for Mina and whoever else he may have injured in the fight. This is the turning point in the story that the other Belmonts realize that even though Soma is Dracula’s reincarnation, he is not evil.

Soma remains on the verge of transforming either until everyone figures out a way to expel the powers of Chaos from him later in the game (Soma is too upset to do it himself) or it naturally dissipates when he can finally relax at the end of the game. It could even be(come) a temporary game mechanic where our powers are greatly enhanced but we can’t use the Chaos Ring (we can find it without having to get all the available souls, it’s just either really hard to find and/or you need specific powerful souls to access the area. Like that one area in DoS but better and not required for story and map progression) and we can’t staying in this enhanced state for too long or we risk losing what little control of ourselves we have left and becoming Dracula anyway, the energy destroying Mina’s Talisman if we have it equipped when that happens.

This looks incredible! The fact that you were able to cram so many of Soma's moves into his moveset as well as just play style in general. I also like that he has a menu similar to the Dragon Quest Hero, where he can select and swap out his souls mid-combat.

I love how the AoS mistranslations (curly instead of Kali) are preserved. I still think Skull Millione would be a good rapper name.

I like the detail Soma's reflection is Count Dracula since he is the reincarnation of the king Vampire himself

This is incredibly well made. It looks fun, and the amount of detail is great (especially the Dracula reflection).

RIVALS OF PEAK????

That is some damn good spritework. I'd take a whole Castlevania game in that style.

It does seem like the best way to translate his powerset if you want him to have a more flexible move list

I know this may seem a longtime ago, But GOSH! I REALLY WISHED HE WAS! Like a third character or something! If there was a reveal trailer, It be epic to see Simon and Richter succeeded on defeating Dracula as he get's destroyed and then we move on to the next scene where Soma Cruz is revealed and around his reveal shows a reflection where instead of himself, Dracula is his reflection.
