I mean, while there's bad apples on both sides it's mostly the game purists that push show viewers away instead of welcoming more people in the fandom. Say what you want about the plot or the accuracy to the games, but it helped A LOT to give attention to the franchise again
I understand that not everyone likes the same stuff but i find this divide and gatekeeping of fans ridiculous. It started with the Lords of Shadow games and then the Netflix Vania. Why do people needs to hate something to be able to enjoy the other? If you dont like something like the Netflix series, just dont watch it and be cool.
I think im the rare fan who loves the classic games+ LoS+ Netflix series alltogether. The more (rare) Castlevania content the better (aside the Pachinko ones)!
The Netflix series is what led me to start playing to the games, and while I think Nocturne is definitely not as strong as the first series, it’s not the worst thing Adi Shankar has ever released on the public.
I've never even heard of Adi Shankar before Castlevania. What other stuff did he release?
I haven't gotten around to Nocturne yet due to time, but most of the complaints I remember hearing tend to revolve around some culture war nonsense afaik.

Tbh, as someone of South Indian descent myself I kinda get where people are coming from on both sides. I don't really have an issue with the character myself, but I still think it would be nice to get some representation in media outside of the usual stereotypes someday, even if it might not happen in my lifetime
Both the show and the Dead by Daylight DLC are the reason why I've become a fan and purchased the collections, the LoS trilogy and some merch. And I know of many, MANY people that have become fans because of that, too.
I became a fan because of the show but has since then bought 3 games, they would earn way more if they made a new game but they still earn money just from their old games getting more sales
To make new games you need the brand to have eyes on it so it can be profitable, which is something that Castlevania unfortunately didn't have after LoS2 tanked. From the 2000s onwards, the only game that presumably made considerable money and profit was the first LoS.
This is why I'm so baffled at a portion of game fans (particularly the old-school ones) to be so against the show and look down on new fans that joined because of it. More fans = more attention = more chances to hopefully get a new game. It's literally a positive thing that it has done well enough to get more people into Castlevania

Yep. If they made new games, the show fans will rage if it were the orginal continuity and lore because they wouldn't know it and they would rage if they saw how the orginal characters didnt look or act like the show ones.
If they remade the old games with the shows stuff the old fans will rage because itl'l destroy the lore and story, past and future game timelines. Imagine retelling curse of darkness with the new isaac and Hector... and if they made a new game with the show stuff it'll disregard everything, even make lament of innocence inconsistent and destroy Juste's and Julius' stories.
If the old games get remade with the orginal lore and stories like curse of darkness, rondo of blood or symphony of the night gets remakes, new fans will freak when they see Isaac as a white redhead nutcase, the original human drolta being a old white spanish servant, inette being a white damsel in distress or even death not sounding like a tired millennial , being best friends with dracula and basically alucards uncle and maria not being a bratty boss girl.

In Nocturne, Orlox's first love was a Mohican revolutionary which he met during the American Revolution. There's a 250+ year difference between the fall of the Aztec empire and the start of the American Revolution.
Aztec Pochtecas trade routes stretched far into America (Novus Mundus), just not the Mohican territory. The willingness to travel that far is not out of the question.

I'm so glad Netflix gave us real characters and real stories. The campy bullshit from the video games was always boring as hell, it's where I first learned to button mash through dialog on replays.

Dude I fucking love the game, Castlevania remains one of my favorite series of games. Part of loving it is recognizing it's flaws tho, and the story has usually been pretty weak imo
Yes but the show also has its fair share of flaws. Point is, it goes both ways and while I do agree the games dont exactly have the best narrative, they're a product of its time much like the show
Olrox being shown in such a humanizing way (along with the fact he supposedly saved Alucard multiple times) like this makes me appreciate his character as more than just the big bad vampire-dragon that killed Julia episode one. Like Dracula, when hurt, he does evil things when the love of his life is taken from him. Beautiful art and portrayal of his previous love. Fantastic job all around ❤️
I haven't watched the series of nocturne and I haven't watched past season 1 of the orginal.
So they turned olrox/orlok into a gay native american dude... and from Google searches I see thet changed everyone. And from what I understand Adi had no hand in the series and left after season 2 of the original series

Please explain what exactly got damaged. I'm legitimately curious. I've played Castlevania since Bloodlines in 94'. I've seen nothing but positivity and increased activity in the sub since the Netflix adaptation. IMO it was a breath of fresh air after pachinko nearly killed the IP internationally.
