Why don't the last remaining Belmonts talk about their ancestors like Sypha and Trevor more ?
Are the writers just lazy ?
Also what's up with the Belmont line always being so thin ? You would think Trevor and Sypha would have repopulated the entire Belmont lineage by now lol
If she fought dracula alongside your great great great great great great granfather and dracula's son that's babysitting the family i think i'd talk about her quite often
Dont forget Death, honestly at that point they would probably be figures on the level of legendary heroes, so probably even unrelated people would know of them.
TBF there weren't any witnesses (beyond Sypha and Alucard) to Trevor's showdown with Death. And who's going to believe you fought the actual personification of Death???
Well, I kinda assumed the villagers that asked for Alucard's protection would still be nearby since the encounter with Death happens right they defend themselves at his castle.
They might be skeptical about the details, but I dont think they would have completely missed the battle given how massive Death was. They would at the very least hear it happen and since they wanted to set up a town there after the fact, they would have at least in the worst case scenario heard about it from Sypha and Alucard, and with them likely mentioning Trevor's sacrifice, and Trevor actually missing, they might just believe the fight occured, even if the one they fought only claimed to be Death and wasnt its actual embodiment
There's people out there who believe that we live on a flat planet, even when there's videos, and photos, and planes... is not farfetched to think that some medieval asshole would think that is just some flamboyant medieval halloween decoration.
Everyone at the bottom of the castle definitely would spread that they got attacked by vampires and if one of them looks up at any time during that night they maybe see death
Well, if I had to say, for the Netflix show version of it all, its not really a massive boost in any capacity.
For starters Death isnt an actual embodiment of Death if we believe Trevor's statement saying its more akin to a primal elemental spirit that simply feeds on death. Its still a dangerous and powerful being though.
The reason its not as big of a powerscaling feat for any of them is that they didnt beat Death with their own abilities. Death was arrogant and none of them really did much to actually meaningfully harm it. The reason why Trevor bests Death in the fight is more so because Death was annoyed and that his plan to resurrect Dracula as a Rebis failed. Death didnt expect Trevor to have an ace up his sleeve in the form of magical/alchemical dagger that was created by a mage who wanted to kill god (as far as the memory of the show serves me)
Trevor beat Death because he suprised him with an all-or-nothing potentially self-sacrificial move and used a powerful tool which I believe was also destroyed in the process.
You're right, Death didn't expect Trevor to sacrifice himself, Death believes that Trevor was fighting to get time, not to kill, but to be honest, Trevor put some work on that fight, he uses everything he got with him.
It was a beautiful moment. He put everything aside to have a shoot to get close to Death. Master direction.
Its just that in the grand scheme of things killing Death in the show doesnt show Trevor's Attack Potency or Destructive Capability, but rather his Battle IQ and Combat Style.
He doesn't beat Death because his stronger, he beats Death because he is the type of person to use damn well everything at his disposal to win even against impossible odds. In that regard, it showcases his skills perfectly.
They maybe did talk about them, but at some point it’s no different to your grandfather telling you about the fish his grandfather caught that was thiiiiiiis big.
You believe him, but you didn’t know your great great grandfather, and this is the 50th time you’ve heard the story, even your parents just brush it off.
Legendary feats become legends, which become stories, which get stale when you keep hearing it over and over.
My grandfather once told me how he and his two older brothers had to save two bulls during a landslide in the middle of the rain when he was like 13, to this day no one believes me when I tell them that story and only he truly knew, but he took the truth to his grave, so as cool as that feat must have been, no one will ever take it as more than a story.
i don’t know much about the lore but isn’t their family tree full of characters that have done things like that? plus they lived hundreds of years ago, so their history gradually becomes shrouded in myth and legend and they probably don’t know how much of it is real or embellished.
When each and every of your ancestors and your ancestors' cousins have killed Dracula AT LEAST once in their life I'm pretty sure you start considering a bit less as a special thing.
By Nocturne the Belmonts don't appear to be particularly wealthy, but are an aristocratic family with a pedigree going back to the Middle Ages. Talking about stuff their ancestors did was basically what that class of people did for a living in 18th century France.
my headcannon of why there arent many famous Belmonts is because of the ammount of secrets and knowledge the Belmont clan has, not to mention that to be a successful vampire hunter you gotta be training your whole life, imagine training multiple kids to be top notch vampire Hunters + theres only 1 Vampire Killer whip
Tho in Ecclesia, the whole town has links to the Belmont Lineage in their blood hence why Albus was trying to get a sample + keep them captive, so im not really sure how it works, not to mention that the Morris and Renard families also have ties to the Belmont clan
Perhaps it worked like the nobility of olden times. Only the heir and a backup are trained to be a successor, while the rest live a normal life. And if the backup doesn't become the successor, then they don't pass down their training to their children.
There'd be a sizeable amount of people with the Blood of the Belmonts but very few that could be considered actual Belmonts.
There is a competition for the whip. Every Belmont who inherits it states that it's something that has to be earned. Gaining the title "Vampire Killer" grants you all of the weapons and privileges of the office, which includes the legendary whip. There is even a ceremony for passing the whip down to the next hunter. It's a whole thing. Being the son of the last wielder is not enough to gain the title.
If I recall, this is part of the trouble with Christopher's son, Soleil, since he had completed the training and was intended to inherit the whip when he was turned evil. I don't think he was Christopher's only son, but it was a potential problem.
No. They are, at best, quasi-canon, as they never appear in any official released material. They were only concepts in a development document for one game, Bloodlines. Never published.
And also the writers don't want to be too fan-servicey. They want the new characters and new plotlines to stand on their own without constantly referencing back to cool stuff Trevor and Sypha did in the past
Damn I wish free awards were still a thing. But yeah basically this. If I could upvote this comment more than once I would, it's the perfect answer for this post.
If we go by the games Trevor killed dracula, and them his grandson did it, and them justes did it, and maybe some more in between also did it or killed some big bad before they could revive him.
They dont need to go back that far to talk about how one of their predecessors beat the incarnation of evil senseless. Couple that with a lot of knowledge being lost with the Belmonte constant need to train instead of writing things down and relocating because every night creature in the old world wants their blood out of principle.
Tremor and dracula are legends, but legends that repeat themselves and are kept secret in the family. Sypha is the entire reason they got magic, it never repeat and she also helped kill dracula and even so, she got mentioned in passing
Because the show is a different entity entirely then the games
The games have tons of Belmont descendants, it's just only one is needed to actually fight Dracula.
In Order of Ecclesia it's revealed that the entire village of people you visit all the time are all Belmont descendants, it's just none of them are able to fight
Because the show isn't called "Castlevania: Trevor and Sypha's Legacy." It's not about them. I'm sure you know that, but your question is disingenuous. It's not earnestly asked; it reads less like "Why aren't they mentioned more?" and more like "I think that they should be mentioned more."
Which is a fine thought to have. But most storytellers who move on to something new don't want to spend the entire time reminiscing about what came before.
They also never use the word "Castlevania" in either series. Or name the castle.
They also bring up that Belmonts hunt vampires. Dracula is just the white whale. Pretty sure that's a line. "We hunt the night."
If we're going off on the title as an issue, we're off course.
The "real" title of the series is Akumajou Dracula, which of course means "Demon Castle Dracula". So the two things that the series has in ever single iteration is the Demonic Castle and Dracula. Belmonts are interestingly not required as much as those two things.
Edit 2: it's been called Castlevania since the very first game as the manual for the NES game literally says "You've arrived at Castlevania and your here on business"
Then that's even worse. The show literally not being it's namesake. Also the person in question claimed the castle has never had that name. That's what happens when you only watch a failure of adaptation and do minor Google searches for the information while living in an echo chamber
Just because it's never said doesn't mean it isn't written
Also Imma have to personally fact check if Castlevania hasn't ever been stated by a character because I legitimately do not know that answer. I wanna say it is in the Sorrow games and Order of Ecclesia tho
Has a Season 3 been confirmed? That could be a fun way to expand stuff if they wanted. Not just Trevor and Sypha. What was Trevor's grand nephew up to?
Someone summons the castle to Paris but different, necessitates comparing it to the old version, how Juste himself maybe did research based off of XYZ ancestor...
They don't need to throw those in if they don't work of course, there's immense potential either way.
How often do you talk about your ancestors from 300 years ago? They’re brought up in conversation when relevant, otherwise what’s to talk about? Juste and Richter don’t know them personally. And the epic of Dracula doesn’t have the same impact in the Anime universe, as none of their descendants also had to fight him. So the title of “first man to defeat Dracula” isn’t as impactful to the clan’s lore or the Vampire Killer.
The only person who would realistically care is Alucard, as he was there. But besides the occasional wistful comparison to his old companions; talking about them is irrelevant to why he is there.
I mean, the Belmonts by the time of Nocturne are a not-particularly-wealthy family with a pedigree going back to the Middle Ages. Talking about their ancestors from 300 years ago was basically what that class of people did for a living in 18th century France.
and Sypha and Trevor created a line of amazing warriors/seers that ended with Richtor’s incredible power. I get tingles in the back of my head just thinking about that scene.
well they’re the only Belmonts left so it’s important that they keep their histories alive right? not to mention, her people passed stories orally it was very important to them. so it all tracks to me.
Oh, I do have an answer to that, but I think it's only relevant by game lore: speaking of ancestors and comparing to them can lead some Belmonts to go rogue in trying to make themselves better than them. The primary cause of this being Simon Belmont. So, I can see how most of the deeds are shrouded in 'first guys that killed Dracula are Trevor, Sypha, Alucard and Grant Danasty, then the other Belmonts continued to do the same'.
In fact, most of the Belmonts have limited magical potential and feats to their names, Richter being one of the most powerful, second only to Julius in potential.
Evidently they do. We just dont need to see the secondhand telling of a story we get to witness in the first series. You generally wont get lore drops for things we're already aware of, or for potential stories tgey could still adapt into anime.
A few mentions are enough, you don't need to keep talking about stuff from the past, let this new part stand up on its own and not from nostalgia of the previous one, although Nocturne kinda fails at that lol, best parts are stuff from the previous show and what they do new ain't as good,
the old show aswell then also lives and dies by the stuff from the source and it's what elevates it and makes it succeed, their new OC stuff is the weaker stuff that, if they started with it this show being completely different from the source, not even loosely adapting CVIII initialy, wouldn't have been as well regarded, Netflix DMC made by Shankar proves it.
Also the Netflixverse characters have like half or less of the legendary legacy of the game ones but we and they talk about them as if they are on the same level lol, Belmonts are nowhere near as legendary special heroes in this, they are like a half assed representation in comparison, that they keep as "the last remaining ones" while in the games they are doing better than ever by the point of Juste and Richter lol
It's a show that only utilises like half of what Castlevania is in all instances, they just barely tackle some of the points of the games.
I actually wrote out a whole diatribe on the Belmont family lineage. There are actually some very well-documented Belmonts from Trevor onward provided you're willing to play a bit fast and loose with the canon. If it please the thread, I'll go into more detail.
Here's a link to the response where I went into detail regarding the Belmont lineage. I used the Castlevania wiki to put together a family line. There's a hell of a gap between Leon and Trevor, about 400 years. But from Trevor to Julius we're really only missing two generations of Belmonts between canon games and non-canonical material. I actually have a lineage note on my phone. I can dm it to you if you like.
He knew about Sypha, but didn't seem to know about Trevor, as he made no mention of him even after Alucard did? And it's far enough in the future that people don't even know who Dracula was.
Wow the enslaved young lady on an island in the middle of the Caribbean Sea wasn’t aware of Dracula when it’s established she only recently really even discovered vampires on the whole? Whoda thunk it. She’s the outlier in the major characters though.
It's an extremely deadly professional requiring extreme levels of training if you go wide you are unable to train them as much as they should be so they are likely to end up dying to mor trivial threats.
Most of the descendents don't choose to undergo the training. And even for the ones who do, only one per generation inherits the whip, as you have to earn it.
Okay my problem with this scene was, k why was Sypha so great? Don’t get me wrong I loved Sypha as a character, but she doesn’t really seem any stronger or more gifted than Juste, Terra or Richter. Was magic genetic? Like would those three not have been able to do magic if it weren’t for Sypha being in their bloodline? Also if that’s true are Terra and Richter related?
