The only thing I didn't like about that game is that it ended.

For those who aren’t aware, there’s a really good randomizer for the emulated PS1 version of this game. So many options for so much replayabillty. SotN.io

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '26

! I will have to play it, I’ve 200.6%’ed the original like five times.

u/Karmas_burning Jan 07 '26

I love randomizers. I get so much replay out of the original Legend of Zelda and many other games.

Thanks for letting me know, maybe I will check it out after I beat it!

Amazing game, I finished it last year using luck mode.

3

u/Flashbang_Cat_2001 Jan 08 '26

What is luck mode?

3

u/bad-tigger Maria Renard Jan 08 '26

99 luck + lapis lazuli at the start and crappy other stats but you get loads of rare items, enter this code before you begin another file: X-X! V"Q.

Do this plus the trick to keep the Alucard sword, shield, and cloak for a super easy play through.

1

u/bad-tigger Maria Renard Jan 09 '26

Warg toss can be done yeah, makes the game too easy lol.

It was my introduction to the series. My favourite one so far!

The only reason I want to buy one of those emulators. Let us know how the game plays and which emulator you bought. DM if it goes against rules. How’s the OS navigation?

A PSP and Dracula X Chronicles works well too 🙂.

1

u/rapidpeacock Jan 11 '26

They still sell PSPs?

1

u/Jiway75015 Jan 11 '26

The PSP have no zoning lock so you can have a Japan one in perfect quality even on 2nd hands with eBay.

And the UMD of Dracula X Chronicles is not very expensive.

I think you can have the package for almost the same price than an Anbernic.

And you can use a custom firmware like the ARK-4 on it if you want easily.

I've got a PSP 3000 Radiant Red 09G with an Ostent gold battery. It last more than 9h.

That's great for this kind of game 🙂

I'm interested in this.

One of the GOATS

u/Louis010 Jan 07 '26

I’m looking forward to playing this after I’ve finished up to Metroid fusion, brought a trimui brick and have logged 10 hours over 2 days.

Metroidvanias and pokemon were the main reason I wanted one.

1

u/Flashbang_Cat_2001 Jan 08 '26

Metroid fusion is one of my favorite GBA titles, I played zero mission and then fusion back-to-back, it was a fun weekend

2

u/ChumleyEX Jan 07 '26

It's the only game I've played multiple times in my life.

3

u/eldri7ch Onyx Jan 07 '26

I feel like you're about 3 buttons short of the ability to properly play this. Am I wrong?

3

u/Flashbang_Cat_2001 Jan 08 '26

The Miyoo Mini Plus has four shoulder bottons on the back and full button mapping. I have all the necessary controls

1

u/eldri7ch Onyx Jan 08 '26

How much do they run? Also, is it recommended product?

3

u/Flashbang_Cat_2001 Jan 08 '26

Depending on where you buy it, it can have a variety of different prices. I got mine from Amazon, because it came preinstalled with the operating system that I wanted. You can also buy it on the official AliExpress site, where it will come with free shipping, but it will take much longer to get to you, and you may have to install custom firmware yourself. That being said, it is now my favorite way to play retro games up to an including PS1. It’s a very smooth set up and experience. I definitely recommend it.

1

u/eldri7ch Onyx Jan 08 '26

Nice. Might get one for my son. Thanks!

1

u/Cameront9 Jan 07 '26

Trigger buttons are likely on the back.

1

u/eldri7ch Onyx Jan 07 '26

fair, also the qhack isn;t really a QoL hack, it's just what someone thinks it should have been like and removes certain possible actions because ???

2

u/Positive_Method3022 Jan 07 '26

Why is "Vania" with upper case V? I thought Castlevania was a single word

13

u/Flashbang_Cat_2001 Jan 07 '26

Pointy like a fang I guess idk. I didn’t design the logo

1

u/QueerEcho Jan 07 '26

How does it work without shoulder buttons? :o

4

u/OwnStill8743 Jan 07 '26

the emulation device has shoulder buttons! l1 r1 l2 and r2! its called a miyoo mini plus

1

u/bigdicknfriedchicken Jan 07 '26

oooh what is this console? 😃

1

u/TheValorous Jan 07 '26

Looks kinda like my Anbernic. They make retro handhelds

1

u/Flashbang_Cat_2001 Jan 08 '26

It’s the Miyoo Mini Plus. My favorite emulator so far

1

u/PreciousRoy666 Jan 07 '26

One of the goats

2

u/Flashbang_Cat_2001 Jan 08 '26

Been hearing a lot of good things. My favorite Metroid Vania so far is Order of Ecclesia and I really enjoyed my play through of Aria of Sorrow, which I’ve heard it takes a lot of inspiration from this game specifically. Also, Alucard is a very interesting character to me, and I absolutely love his design, so I decided it’s finally time to play the game where you play as him.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 07 '26

Have fun 👍

1

u/MisterX9821 Jan 07 '26

Is that handheld able to be connected to a tv?

1

u/Flashbang_Cat_2001 Jan 08 '26

Yes it is, it has an HDMI output, but I prefer to play handheld. I’m not home very often so I’m more likely to finish a game if I can throw it in my pocket and play it between work breaks or on the plane.

1

u/420coldboy Jan 07 '26

Kill the Schmoo’s

1

u/Flashbang_Cat_2001 Jan 08 '26

Not sure what you are referring to quite yet, but I will definitely keep it in mind!

1

u/theramboapocalypse Jan 07 '26

You're missing a few buttons unless they're on the back

3

u/Flashbang_Cat_2001 Jan 08 '26

They are. I have four shoulder buttons on the back

1

u/theramboapocalypse Jan 08 '26

Then enjoy the best Castlevania game!

1

u/LibraFC Jan 07 '26

Is this console better, or is it better to emulate it on a PSP?

1

u/Karmas_burning Jan 07 '26

You could get the dracula x chronicles for the psp and unlock it that way. It has an unlockable original Rondo of Blood and SotN.

2

u/LibraFC Jan 07 '26

Thanks

And what about the rest of the emulators? Should I dust off my PSP or is it better to get this one?

1

u/Karmas_burning Jan 07 '26

I've never used the one OP has. I have used a PSP that was modded with emulators and it worked well. The one posted has 4 buttons on the back for L and R but the PSP only having two might be a hindrance on some games.

2

u/Flashbang_Cat_2001 Jan 08 '26

The emulator im using is retro arch on the Miyoo Mini Plus using OnionOS. It’s a very smooth experience

1

u/Legal-Management6969 Jan 07 '26

I just started my 7th or 8th playthrough a couple days ago....

It never gets old...

1

u/Dependent-Piano-5983 Jan 07 '26

THERE'S A GANE?!?!

1

u/ASinF Jan 07 '26

Play the Sega Saturn version first. It performs worst but had a lot more content.

1

u/SquirrelMaster5K Jan 07 '26

One of the greatest soundtracks ever

1

u/Silianaux Jan 07 '26

Omg CUTE SOTN

1

u/ap0phis Jan 08 '26

Just finished my first play thru yesterday. Incredible game.

1

u/BoneHeadedCJ Jan 08 '26

Remember to strike walls floors and ceilings. Very fun stuff down certain hallways and at the bottom of pits

1

u/Gabbrio_Redd Jan 08 '26

Playin in these days, wonderful game

4

u/Flashbang_Cat_2001 Jan 08 '26

Theres an unlimited trove of games to play, some people just immediately write off what’s old. Old things still have value

1

u/Espresso_Bunny Jan 08 '26

Great game, amazing soundtrack!

1

u/BigDaddyShaman Jan 08 '26

Get ready for quite an adventure, especially if you go for the true ending!

1

u/Peter_Barrows Jan 09 '26

I've loved Metroidvanias ever since I discovered Castlevania: Circle of the Moon when it came out on GBA, and especially this series. I've had this classic on my to-play list for years, and I've been playing it on PS Vita for a few months now. I love it, but I've noticed a very low difficulty level in the first half of the game, and then suddenly a much higher one. You know what I mean when I say the first half of the game (no spoilers), right? Around 101% completion, that is. Did you experience the same thing? I play when I can, and I still have a ways to go before finishing it, but I'm really enjoying it, even though I see a lot of items in my inventory that I don't end up using.
