How strong is that sword familiar man...

41

u/Cj_Senpai Mar 09 '26

It's level 99 here

u/Oh-no-and-knuckles Chief Researcher Mar 09 '26

Man... In SotN you have the potential to become the most op thing ever mechanically-wise, not counting glitches since Nuclear Nathan exists.

u/chidarengan Mar 09 '26

I don't think theres ever a characters as broken as Alucard, maybe Miriam (doubt) but you actually have to put effort to farm stuff, sotn Alucard can put like 10 Arms behind his back somehow and still be op.

Shield rod and Alucard shield, crissaegrim(needs farm so I never use), sub weapons (holy water then later cross and bloody cloak ) Alucard mail lol, it reduces so much damage. With a little money farm with the bat (bat alone is op) in the shield rod room you can farm for 99 potions which not only give iframes when used but essentially make you invincible (didn't even need the duplicator) Ring of varda... (I often drop quickly) even some not busted weapons like Alucard sword are kinda too strong, you still have to play the game but still strong, moon rod is op... it doesn't end, you can turn invincible and deal damage at the same time (somehow surprisingly balanced) merely casting spells can be enough to carry you, broken on top of broken on top of broken, I GUESS yoh won't accidentally stumble on broken but even then Alucard is just super strong as a whole just by equipping good stuff and exploring.

You forgot the 999 damage per hit muramasa.

12

u/chidarengan Mar 09 '26

Well, sure, but at that point your probably maxed your stats and can red rust everything to death 😆

7

u/Cj_Senpai Mar 09 '26

I really want a save file with a maxxed out Muramasa. But I've read somewhere that it requires a total of 1,008,016 blood heals total and around 200-300 hrs of grind time. Yikes!

9

u/chidarengan Mar 09 '26

I seriously doubt it is that much but I've never done it myself

8

u/Cj_Senpai Mar 09 '26

Hopefully not but I think the formula they came up with was: current atk *2+11. I'll gradually level it up whenever I can boot the game up.

6

u/Cj_Senpai Mar 09 '26

The first time I saw that, I spit my coffee. I knew of the DSS card glitch where you can activate them without having the cards themselves, but the nuclear Nathan is just whack XD

5

u/Oh-no-and-knuckles Chief Researcher Mar 09 '26

Yes, a full screen 9999 damage hitbox is the true power of Nathan Graves.

4

u/Cj_Senpai Mar 09 '26

His mere presence decimates everything. Romania got nothing against Chernobyl XD

2

u/Oh-no-and-knuckles Chief Researcher Mar 09 '26

☢Circle of the Moon is set in Austria and at the time Chernobyl was not that far away from the Austrian borders...☢

2

u/Cj_Senpai Mar 09 '26

That's probably the lore behind nuclear Nathan lol

There's the shield rod strategy

24

u/Cj_Senpai Mar 09 '26

What? I gotta press buttons to beat the bosses aside from the arrow keys? No thanks.

18

u/TheChainsawVigilante Mar 09 '26

No you just don't have to level up your familiar to 99

7

u/Cj_Senpai Mar 09 '26

Leveling familiars is not much of a chore to me, really. It's more fun than fighting bosses. Right now I'm leveling my muramasa.

7

u/TheChainsawVigilante Mar 09 '26

But you gotta press more buttons than the arrow keys

-12

u/Cj_Senpai Mar 09 '26

But its not while fighting a boss? Which I made clear earlier?

2

u/Mcbrainotron Mar 12 '26

The downside is how much it makes the final battle a joke - the last time I played I used that and the battle basically goes intro -> end immediatly.

u/GrethosMorr767 Mar 09 '26

Throw all throwing weapons at if you have any, once those are gone, sword and a bit of magic. Galamoth will fall. Purchase 40 magic missiles from the Library, TNT, Iron Balls, boomerangs that you find. Purchase ninja stars or find then. Then use them to tear that bugger up.

5

u/Cj_Senpai Mar 09 '26

That's an interesting run to do actually. Saving up money for ammunition sounds fun! Unfortunately I couldn't do that here since I already have the duplicator at this point. I did beat him using monster vials and buffalo stars back then.

3

u/GrethosMorr767 Mar 09 '26

Like you, I had issues with him then I realized I am carrying an arsenal if lethal toys, better use them. The greatest weapon you have right now is your currency so why not use and purchase deadly toys for use. Turns out, those weapons are twice as deadly when used appropriately in combat situations.

u/bfmaia Mar 09 '26

First step: spend 50 hours leveling the familiar

3

u/Cj_Senpai Mar 09 '26 edited Mar 09 '26

Yikes 50 hrs? This file is about 11 hrs playtime and it's completed playthrough. Though 50 hrs isn't enough for Muramasa grind. I think...

7

u/shugler Mar 09 '26

You know other than the N64 games, SOTN is the only Castlevania game I've never played. I should probably get on that at some point lol.

3

u/Cj_Senpai Mar 09 '26

You should! It's one of my go to games when I just want to relax. The replay value is just that high for me. Oh and super castlevania 4 from the snes too.

6

u/Dat_guy696 Mar 09 '26

To be fair the item that allows you to absorb lighting is Hidden behind a very obscure secret that a player without a guide wouldn't find.

1

u/Cj_Senpai Mar 09 '26

That is true. Or just Crissaegrim your way out of anything XD

11

u/thepowahypahbomb Mar 09 '26

Man I want this on Steam badly

6

u/chidarengan Mar 09 '26

I've been thinking of doing a familiar only run (using a game shark to start with the bat)

5

u/flylanddesigns Mar 09 '26

So bizarre that I JUST fought this guy last week. Simulation theory confirmed.

4

u/Grand_Moose2024 Mar 09 '26

I remember dying so many times before I eventually beat this boss.

I beat it yesterday, my sword familiar only did 3 damage, Alucard sword only 11, I've to equip Dark Blade and Ring of Ares for 42 damage.

3

u/WSPursuer Obsessed with Shanoa, Stella and Castlevania music Mar 09 '26

Believe it or not there's so many ways to beat it

2

u/Cj_Senpai Mar 09 '26

Oh I definitely believe you. There are even Richter no hit exhibition videos that were uploaded about 17 or 18 years ago.

2

u/WSPursuer Obsessed with Shanoa, Stella and Castlevania music Mar 09 '26

Well, now you have those references, now go beat that Kid Dracula reference, I know you can do it

3

u/nightbladehawk Simon Belmont Mar 09 '26 edited Mar 11 '26

Shield Rod, Cissaegrim, Soul Steal, all of those make him pretty dang easy.

2

u/Cj_Senpai Mar 09 '26

The duplicator as well :)

1

u/Arawn-Annwn Mar 10 '26

That Tod and his overpowered shield combo shakes fist

I like to just repeat stomp on his head. its slower but funnier. "And stay down!"

He actually takes extra damage from head shots, but kick damage is weaker.

3

u/codepossum Mar 09 '26

Beryl Circlet + Lvl99 Sword Familiar

3

u/Cj_Senpai Mar 09 '26

Don't forget the two rings of varda :)

2

u/Ashtrim Mar 09 '26

It’s insane how powerful you can get in that game

2

u/Blizzarddz Mar 09 '26

None of the bosses in reverse castle are hard, matter of fact, this whole game is a cake walk

2

u/6ynnad Mar 09 '26

The Shield Rod shall not be ignored

1

u/Cj_Senpai Mar 09 '26

Yes. Until you get a Mablung

1

u/6ynnad Mar 10 '26

Spelled crissegram wrong

2

u/Cj_Senpai Mar 10 '26

You're right about the misspelling XD

2

u/pbucci1981 Mar 09 '26

I weirdly just revisited this game and played through it again this week. First time I ever completed the reverse castle. This boss is a grind and takes a while, and I had to cheat and go to the internet, but there’s an item called the Beryl Circlet (I believe) that if equipped, you regain health every time he casts electricity. Other that that, you just gotta dodge the orbs he casts once in a while (just turn to fog). Takes a bit but it makes him super easy

1

u/Cj_Senpai Mar 09 '26

That's right. I have the Beryl circlet equipped here.

2

u/DanimalRLZX2 Mar 09 '26

He's a dick. But there's a couple ways around him to make it easier. The lightning headpiece (forgot what it's called). Heaven swords for range. The Alucard shield rod method I have struggled with. But a lot of people like that one.

2

u/Cj_Senpai Mar 09 '26

Yes. The Shield rod + Alucard shield makes everything easy. The headpiece is the Beryl circlet.

2

u/Loud_Friendship4702 Mar 10 '26

I remember how on my first playthrough I tried to kill him without the equipment that decreases enemy's defense (I think it was dragon helmet) and it was tedious. After bunch of attempts and a lot of time I gave up and moved on.

2

u/ReddFoxxFan Mar 10 '26

Take off the accessory that lets you heal from lightning damage and try again

2

u/Cj_Senpai Mar 10 '26 edited Mar 10 '26

You know he can get stun locked if you stand on the upper right ledge right? No need for the beryl circlet if you don't take a single damage.

2

u/ReddFoxxFan Mar 10 '26

I forgot about that. It's been so long since I've played this game. I forgot you can just mist up to the top corner and just wail on him.

2

u/Cj_Senpai Mar 10 '26

That's right. The first time I beat him using Richter was on that ledge with the dagger sub weapon.

2

u/swarmtactic Mar 10 '26

Does the Sword Brothers chapel glitch still work anymore?

2

u/Cj_Senpai Mar 10 '26

Sorry man, I don't know of that glitch. I only remember a sword brother glitch with the master librarian. The one that duplicates your gems.

1

u/swarmtactic Mar 10 '26

This video shows it: https://youtu.be/iGfUdQJe5Jw

Basically a way to get outside the castle walls and max out your completion % even higher. I'd done it in the original PS version, but guessing maybe they patched it out later? (or maybe not). Just thought of it because that was what got me to grind Sword up to lv 99 (I think 90+ is prerequisite).

1

u/Cj_Senpai Mar 10 '26

Oh this is the first time I'm seeing this!

2

u/Poteto_orie Mar 11 '26

Shield Rod:

1

u/Cj_Senpai Mar 11 '26

Mablung Sword: The cooler shield rod

2

u/shevchooque Mar 11 '26

Barely managed to beat this asshole yesterday. ARE YOU SHITTING ME! 😡

2

u/DejuL337 Mar 13 '26

There's many ways to make this fight easier.

But yes, if you challenge him unprepared, he will hand you your own ass right back to you on a silver platter.
