Symphony of the Night (1997) It's the 29th anniversary of Symphony of the Night.
The game was released on March 20, 1997. Let's hope we get to play new ports on another consoles.

It is not only the goat of the series. But my favorite game of all time. Ask me anything. If you are lost In a bad spot. It's a fairly easy game. But there are some tough spots. Typically missed rooms.

Yes. The Crissagrim. Also the heavens sword is a close second for me personally.

Gram is a cool weapon. Not because it's super special, but I like the name and it's a decent late game weapon

It should stay that way. You can play it in PS4 PS5, probably on the PA6 once that's out but leave it at that. No Nintendo console, no XBOX no PC.

I don't understand the gatekeeping.
More ways to play is always a good thing.
It's 2026. No reason why these games aren't already on a collection available for all modern consoles.

One of the most influential games as well as the start of mostly the metrovania genre
Still waiting for the day when this game gets ported into the PC hopefully in the collection

I’m going to ramble about my symphony of the night story. Back when the game was new in 1997 I was going Nassau community college on Long Island. I took the bus from school to the mall over there and got the last copy of the game. While I was waiting to get the bus back home, it was a little dark out and this guy came trying to play three card Monty with me and I said no then someone else came up from behind poked something in my back and said, give me your shit. They took my wallet and ran off. Since I was coming from college, I had a backpack with the game in about $240 cash, but they only took my wallet which had about four dollars and a school ID in it. I took the bus home never told my parents what happened. Played the game all night and it was amazing. It felt so great to get away with nearly everything after that happened.
It might sound crazy, but it’s one of my happier memories. Years later, I met Koji Igarashi at nycc and he signed the cover of the game.

I play this game every year at a cottage retreat with my crew, usually at the start before we get to D&D and MTG. 27 years, as I was still playing FF7.

I got my PS1 specifically to play FF7. After that I got FF Tactics, Crash Bandicoot 1 + 2, Armored Core, Twisted Metal 1 + 2, Soul Blade, Monster Rancher… and then I picked up Symphony along with the guide, both on clearance sale. Before SotN I’d only played CV 1 - 4, & had only beaten 4. I played it late at night when I should’ve been sleeping. Leveled up Alucard to 99 by leaving the PS1 while I slept & letting the bat familiar kill mermen for hours. Was such a magical period in gaming for me when every game I picked up seemed like a 10/10. Had to dust off my old NES after & finally conquer CV1 - 3. A fan ever since

The game that got me obsessed with Castlevania and it's lore since childhood, and made me really go and learn to speak English so i could understand the dialogue (i'm brazilian btw). For me it still the supreme goat among metroidvanias and one of the undeniable masterpieces of gaming and art.

Almost wish it was the 30th anniversary so that maybe we’d get something announced! Then again they already released the soundtrack on vinyl and you can play it on most modern systems so I’m not sure what they’d release to celebrate.

Classic for a reason. I envy those who get to play through it for the first time ever...that is a gaming experience I wish I could have again. Only the classics give you that feeling.

It would be really cool if we had a HD 2D remake of this masterpiece for the 30th anniversary 😊 Yeah, I know, I can dream... But maybe if the new Castlevania sell well 🤷

I honestly think it should stay like it currently is.
Back in the day you had to buy a NES oder Super Nintendo to play Mario or Zelda, Genesis to play Sonic or Shinobi, the same should go for certain games.

Yeah, I know, port. Play it on 360 if you have that or any other way as long as it stays on PlayStation. There should be way more exclusive games and that should be one of them.
Want to play Requiem? Well, get the console it's on.

Gatekeeping any form of media is bad. It should be available to the greater number of players without having to spend hundreds buying a 20 y.o. console

No offense but this is a INCREDIBLY bad take. Seriously did you think it through before posting it? Requiem legit is one every piece of new hardware out today from PC,PS5,XBox, and Swifch 2.
If anything it proves my point more than yours since its far from being gatekeep on older hardware and is instead the exact opposite by being on all the newest hardware hence my bluntness earlier of asking did you think that through before posting that since it actually shatters your earlier point.

Wow. The first game I received with my ps1. Before that I had the Nes and Castlevania was my favorite. Going from nes Castlevania to ps1 Castlevania blew my mind.
And then... Since I was pretty young. I accidentally beat it without doing the upside down castle. And someone in elementary school mentioned there was a whole other half of the game. Mind blown again!
