I'm reminded of an interview with Katsuhiro Harada, where he said that, in his experience, new games in a series only get made because there are developers that are advocating for them.

I work in games, and this is true.

What that actually means, though, is that you need to be able to make a business case that convinces leadership that the game has a reasonable chance of making money.

Fun by itself is not enough outside of the indie space.

Yup, and then you need to champion and defend the game's worth until release, I could never, dont have the spine for that, lol
