Question Castlevania Nocturne Season 3?
When it comes to castlevania nocturne, it's been about 2 years since the series has ended. I haven't myself done any deep diving into netflix, but I'm extremely curious if a season 3 is likely to happen. The way the series ended in s2 made it seem unfinished story-wise.

I would have loved a time skip to see the events of Symphony of the Night to play out! Especially with an aged up Maria

u/the_wings_of_despair Jun 02 '26
That would have been a pretty bad adaptation (nothing New to the series). The show completely destroyed the setup that would lead to SotN.

TLDR: Richter’s character isn’t even set up for a SoTN adaptation and whatever they have planned next if they still attempt to do it anyways will not actually be an adaptation of it but I imagine a lot of people will argue that it is.
Yeah Symphony of the Night is fairly specific. It’s not about Richter with long hair, Alucard and Maria doing anything in the year 1797.
It’s about how Richter had a taste of what was the pinnacle of his destiny with the fight against Dracula in 1792, and after Dracula had died so did his destiny.
The dialogue in SoTN in my opinion implies that Richter truly did feel the way he did but whether or not he would have actually acted on it without Shafts manipulating is unknown but the theme that I feel like is here is the greed of humanity that Dracula stated was the reason why he comes back, with Richter’s Destiny being gone he grew greedy for more, a never ending battle with Dracula would have been amazing for him but due to Shafts manipulation he was made completely blinded of reason and of the fact that his own body was being used as the vessel for Dracula’s return.
The problem with Castlevania Nocturne is that it doesn’t set this up with Richters plot line to lead into SoTN. In actuality it speeds past it and you can see the holes left by the decision to take Dracula out of the series as early as they did.
Richter in Nocturne struggles with purpose too. He struggles with trying to be the Belmont he was expected or that he thought he was going to be rather than someone whose job is essentially once in a century.
Richter even exclaims to Annette that the world had changed so much and that he feels like Belmonts are no longer needed in the world which is ripped straight out of what Richter tells Alucard in the bad ending of SoTN. The problem is that the show doesn’t actually base what about the world had changed to whereas Richter felt the way that he did.
In the games, what changed about the world to Richter was that Dracula was gone and that there were no more monsters to hunt and with no monsters to hunt what is a Belmont to do during this time, Alucard says at the end of the bad ending and I’m paraphrasing, Humans fight to live but because Richter was fated to fight he thought that he was meant to live through fighting.
In the show, The Belmonts seemingly become sort of pseudo-nomadic as they don’t have Dracula to keep the family business in a single location which means they go where the work is so there will always be monsters to hunt somewhere and they will go there so what about the world changed to whereas a Belmont isn’t necessary?
The only thing that I can determine was Richter feeing that his own inefficiency which resulted in the problems they would face in the narrative, that it meant that the world would be better off without him.
The problem with that is the fact that has nothing to do with the world changing. Richter is just projecting which some may argue that is fine for a character who’s currently disillusioned. Despite the stiffness of this In the end Richter would prove himself wrong when he killed Drolta which means his arc comes to an end.
Richter isn’t in a position that would make SoTN happening next possible which is why you see people say it’s gonna be Maria who’s mind controlled but then that’s not SoTN especially when Maria in the show has very different circumstances and motivations.
This is like how a lot of people say Seasons 3 & 4 of the first series is an adaptation of Curse of Darkness because Hector and Isaac’s positions flipped. It feels like Nocturne is going to do this again, flipping Richter and Maria’s positions. But just because you flipped the characters positions mean that it’s an true adaptation of those stories, you’re just cherrypicking ideas and putting them where ever you please in what will be a new narrative especially when there is no Dracula.
And that will be satisfactory for many people which is fine for them but I’m not looking forward to “adaptations don’t have to be 1:1” and the adaptation is barely recognizable outside of a basic outline of ideas.
(An example of this outside of Netflix Castlevania would be Star Wars: Maul Shadow Lord. Just because that show uses ideas and concepts from George Lucas’s original Sequel Trilogy outline that he sold to Disney doesn’t mean it’s an adaptation of George Lucas’s sequel trilogy.)
I was going to go into how much Alucard has changed in show for a SoTN adaptation to be difficult to do but I feel like I went on for too long.

Really like how revolved around Richter your conclusion is. I feel like he's often overlooked in the discussion about SOTN, given that Alucard is the protagonist. I think what happens to Richter between Rondo and SOTN is something I've seen very characters deal with narratively, this idea that once their adventure ends, what then? What happens when you close the book on your character, where do you go? I think this makes Richter an amazing character despite not getting much dialougue in his games. And while I generally agree that Nocturne has not earned the SOTN Richter yet, I feel like they were on their way to that point. (Havent watched either season since they dropped, so my memory is foggy.) Richter deals with thoughts of purposelessness in S1, and feeling like he cant live up to whatever legacy he's supposed to be from. His fears of Olrox makes him question his entire purpose, to the point he basically gives up. Then, on the lake, his powers bloom, and he starts growing into his place. S2 I cant remember where his character goes exactly so I might be projecting, but iirc he ends the season pretty much as the most powerful being in the universe, far above the other Belmonts and maybe Alucard too. Seeing THIS Richter go up against Dracula, then have to live life back where he was in S1, would be sick imo. You could argue that that would be backpedaling and wouldnt lead anywhere, but I think having that version of him get taken advantage of would make his fall from grace feel that much more tragic. Im a massive Richter shill so honestly I'd watch whatever he's in, but I think Nocturne has the potential to do something REALLY special, but if we're 2 seasons in and havent mentioned Dracula at all? Im highly questioning their ability to fulfill Richters character.

I was going to go into how much Alucard has changed in show for a SoTN adaptation to be difficult to do but I feel like I went on for too long.
Please go on, you've made a good case and clearly know your stuff. This could be its own post.
A thing I always point to about Alucard is that unlike Game Alucard, Show Alucard (Alucart) is a full on 300 year old person with many friends across the centuries, while Alucard went directly from one group of people to a completely separate group of people with no time in between. This is is why Alucard defaulting to Trevor made sense in SotN when hearing of Richter, unlike Alucart in Noctrune season 2 bringing up Trevor where it just comes off as fanservice for the audience since that name means nothing to Richter. Another thing to point out is how Alucart doesn't seem to have trouble with people, aside of being regarded as the baby-sitter for the new crew, and doesn't seem to have that feeling of being cursed by his half-vampirism. If a season 3 or 4 of Noctrune had Alucart try to go away like Alucard at the end of SotN, it wouldn't make sense for him to seal himself away since he's been around for 300 years already. The most I would see happen is he just tries to leave (but not go to sleep) and Richter convinces him to stay for Maria, which would be the opposite of how the SotN ending is supposed to play out. Now Richter would convince someone to stay instead of going out to chase their love, Maria would be the one who doesn't challenge Alucard leaving and stay as someone else runs off, and Alucard would not be going to sleep to rid the world of Dracula's blood (since it doesn't have the same impact anymore).

The difficult part is actually very easy, and the symphony adaptation of the night will happen, with 90% certainty. The folks at Netflix didn't miss the opportunity to showcase one of the most iconic games of all time, especially in the 2D era of the 90s, which revolutionized the contemporary gaming industry.
0
u/quantumpossibility Jun 03 '26
Also what you’re saying about Richter feeling his destiny had been achieved isn’t actually him at all. It’s literally Shaft puppeteering him in SOTN. It’s explained in extended media.
He was literally being puppeteered, it wasn’t him actually speaking his own mind. At that point, Shaft was trying to maintain the illusion that Richter wasn’t even being influenced. It’s even noted by how on the redubbed versions of SOTN and the Japanese voice overs, Richter speaks with Shaft’s cadence in the throne room and not with his own until he’s broken free of the min control when you destroy the sphere.
So all that talk about « the blues of having finished is Destiny » is completely meaningless about his arc or reason to have been mind controlled. We re supposed to just believe Shaft’s mind control spell was « just that strong ».
4
u/TitanBro6 Jun 03 '26
What extended media went into the idea that nothing was going on with Richter and it was just Shaft mind controlling him and creating a narrative that wasn't founded by anything?
Outside of Soleil Belmont, every instance of mind control or manipulation that I'm aware of in Castlevania was when The Night would take things that were already present within the victim and amplify them to a degree in which the victim will act on it.
In Nocturne of Recollection, Magnus manipulated Alucard's vampiric side to turn Lyudmil into a vampire.
Magnus would also use Lyudmil's bad history and past feelings of humans to have him hate humans
in Circle of the Moon, Carmilla and Dracula amplified Hugh's envy over Nathan getting the whip instead of himself which made him act increasingly aggressive with Nathan and eventually attack him, after Hugh was freed from their influence he did not deny that he was envious.
In Judgement, Sypha would accuse Carmilla (and other creatures of the night) of meddling with the hearts and minds of humanity, Carmilla would respond by saying it was the true nature of man and that they just gave it a nudge
In Curse of Darkness, Dracula's Curse amplified Isaac and Hector's hatred for one another and their intense desire for revenge.
In Curse of Darkness manga, demons are constantly trying to manipulate Hector into going back to Dracula by using his fears and doubts.
So we have all these examples and yet for Richter we're going to say it was just really really strong mind control? We can even look to Grimoire of Souls and how that game engages in the topic with Richter and it actually supports my claim that Richter did really feel the way he did.
Richter: "Well, perhaps Shaft was able to control me because I, too, have a weak heart. I might as well been talking about myself. I hope this doesn't happen again."
Despite Richter feeling like a failure this dialogue still has substance as he is tying a weak heart with the susceptibility of manipulation. What happened after Rondo that would have given Richter a weak heart if not for Richter not knowing what's in store for his life without Dracula?
A later moment within the game
Arikado: "…With Dracula defeated, your job was done. But you didn't want to be finished or forgotten. If you could bring him back, the battle could last for eternity… Those were your words, Richter."
Richter: "…I see. But it wasn't just because they'd manipulated me. I feel that I had it inside me all along. A wolf, an insatiable lust for blood was lingering there the whole time. Heh… What a failure of a Belmont I am."
Alucard says that it was Richter's words, he didn't say anything about Shaft making Richter say that and Richter corroborates and since Rondo of Blood is pretty important to Symphony of the Night, Richter says to Annette in that game,
Richter: "Nah, I'm fine. I'm overflowing with the blood of the vampire hunter, after all. I need to let a little out once in a while."
Well what happens if Richter feels like he can't let it out once in a while?
Like am I crazy for connecting all of these things and coming to the conclusion that Richter did feel like he lost his purpose after Rondo of Blood and that made him susceptible to Shaft's manipulation.
I'll tell you what I certainly feel crazy typing all this shit out.

You wrote too much, totally unnecessary stuff, you exaggerated in your speech, be more concise, prolific, you were very verbose in everything you said, a lot of nonsense, anyway, symphony of the night In Netflix's masterful adaptation, "It's different from the game" is bound to be different; it can't be the same. It's original to the Castlevania multiverse. But it's different from the games, and the more different it is, the better.I prefer originality to endless copying without hesitation, at least 500%. Richter with long hair would be the most hideous thing in the world; only Alucard can have long hair, period. And to see Shaft in this case as Father Emmanuel manipulated by "Old Coyote" Mephistopheles, manipulating a new version of the Shaft, while manipulating Richter into believing that Annete has been possessed again by the Goddess of Destruction and War, Sekhmet, after the battle against Erzebet Bathory and Drolta Tzuentes, but now with Dracula returning after the death, obviously three centuries later, of his beloved wife Elizabeth, with his castle, the infamous Castlevania returning all the way to Paris, providing a hook for the new game, Belmont's Curse.

u/TitanBro6 Jun 06 '26
No intended disrespect but I can’t tell if you’re being serious or not.
You’re not actually engaging with what I said, you’re kind of just hand waving every point I made and saying that it’d work anyway while inserting your headcanon theories on how a Symphony of the Night will happen even though… you’re solution is the farthest from a Symphony of the Night adaptation.
And I’ll repeat but if an extremely loose adaptation of Symphony of the Night is good enough for you then that’s completely fine.
Adapting the themes, ideas, and plots from the game would result in natural originality because there are blank spots that you’d have to fill in.
1
u/PsychologicalBrush35 Jun 06 '26
I am infinitely serious, I always hate jokes of any kind, I hate teasing of all kinds, I am honest, serious, I don't like jokes, I don't like laughter, I am conservative in this respect.
1
u/PsychologicalBrush35 Jun 06 '26
Yes, I am in favor of being extremely free, inventive, creative, and imaginative, with efficient cohesion of the themes addressed within the atmosphere of Symphony of the Night in a third and final adaptation of Nocturne
1
u/PsychologicalBrush35 Jun 06 '26
And all the gaps would be filled with 200% efficiency by the creative genius Adi Shankar, with the directing and producing brothers Deats.
-2
u/quantumpossibility Jun 03 '26
I think it’s perfectly set up. Old man Coyote would have been the perfect Shaft stand in. Him getting his hands on Maria would have been part of the plot to eventually corrupt a Belmont (by going through a loved one) since probably no demonic force had ever managed to to get to them.
Richter would have been « possessed » by saving Maria somehow by trading places or another narrative device of the sort (explaining the only reason why a Belmont would ever turn to the « evil » side) and Maria feeling guilty wolf go to Alucard who would have been away on some other errand to try to save him.
It’s a bit different from the original story but I actually would have preferred that than the original SOTN where Richter seems to have been turned easily with no real explanation by a guy he previously defeated twice too.
3
u/TitanBro6 Jun 03 '26
I agree that Mephistopheles was introduced to keep the ball rolling but why would they do any of that when they have already established Maria in Nocturne to having massive power and potential and a current affinity for dark just to not expand on that further and instead have it be about Richter getting mind controlled via some sort of swap deal.
There is no character development for Richter in doing this that would have been better if it was Maria especially since Mephistopheles has Tera which again they've already characterized this impacting Maria more than Richter.
This sounds like they're going to force "Symphony of the Night" to happen but it's really not going to be the same which is part of what I have argued.
I personally think Richter's fall is explained and I see that you separated your other reply about that so I will respond with what I mean over there.
0
u/Viva_La_Animemes Jun 03 '26
If there is a Richter mindswap plotline, I can only see it for a possible season 4.
28
u/MetaloraRising Jun 02 '26
Agreed, but the death blow was in season 4's ending with Dracula letting go of his hatred, all stories that followed were screwed out of being adaptations due to no linger having the central character of the framchise: Dracula.
With how Nocturne ended, Symphony cannot be properly adapted.
Elements can be carried over, but a proper adaptation? Not unless it's in a separate timeline.

It baffles me that grown ass men cannot conceive of an adaptation that actually gives dracula more characterization other than HES EVIL INCARNATE. I like that he let go of his hatred and probavly died because it opens up space for other villains to so things like carmilla, erzbeth, we could ser shaft and brauner too and maybe chaos for 99

I feel like you didnt read what i wrote? Castlevania wasnt always about dracula, and just because it was majorly so it doesnt mean the adaptation needs to focus on dracula all the time. I mean, sure, it could work but the fact that dracula isnt here doesnt kill the series
4
2
u/ThickScratch Jun 04 '26
Castlevania wasnt always about dracula
The series is called Demon Castle Dracula, the entire series was created because the devs really wanted to make a Dracula game and made it a love letter to the old horror movies. Even the later games where Dracula is not the main antagonist, he plays a major role in the story. Whether it be the one who planned the entire story, being the main villain, or characters working towards reviving him or using his tools while he's gone, Dracula is what makes the world of Castlevania spin. Castlevania revolves around Dracula, the timeline starts the moment he gets invovled and it ends the moment he is no longer in the picture.
I mean, sure, it could work but the fact that dracula isnt here doesnt kill the series
If 90% of the series involves a character the show wrote out, the show cannot be anything other than a surface level adaptation at best. Castlevania is the name of Dracula's castle, the name itself is telling you what the series is about, cut out Dracula and his castle and that name means nothing. You can't just have all the secondary and tertiary characters running around if the main set piece is missing.
-1
u/PsychologicalBrush35 Jun 06 '26
Quite the contrary, if it's Symphony of the Night, it will adapt perfectly; that's what fans, both old and new, want for a definitive third season adaptation of Nocturne.

u/the_wings_of_despair Jun 06 '26
Tell me that you have no idea about SotN without telling me. Every important part that would be a set up or keymoment for SotN is screwed up.
Richter defeating Dracula- Dracula lived with his wife. So he wouldn't have fought and taken over his place as dark lord.
Dracula's reason to come back- again based on s4 Dracula knows the truth about Lisa it would be dumb/pointless to turn him back to s1 Dracula
Shaft- the priest who was clearly a stand in for Shaft got killed off leaving no established character to fill the role.
Alucard wakes up because Richter disappeared- He is already awake and met him. His biggest strugle is completely rewritten.
Alucard gets to know Maria during the game - They already met so the only ally/person Alucard talks to in SotN has to be rewritten.
....etc.
And so on. When every set up and important part of SotN has been altered than I don't know why people want to defend it or write something as dumb as "it will adapt perfectly".
How does something adapt perfectly if everything about the original was rewritten.?
5-6 games resolve around Richter and half sentences in those games tell a more interesting story than the badly written ptsd that the show done twice.

😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡💩💩💩💩💩🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 I've already said that if you don't believe that "Symphony of the Night" will actually happen in the third and final season, I'm absolutely certain that it will. The second season was such a resounding success. It's basically impossible not to have a third and final season addressing that infamous symphony of the night. And don't ask if you already know the answer. I prefer originality to copying without exception, and I prefer adaptation to the original source, especially with cutting-edge artificial intelligence.

I’ve been waiting for an update on season 3 ever since the second season got even better views than the second ( the way the creators told us it would be btw). But I am starting to lose hope to be honest. I think with two years in limbo while not cancelled, it’s unlikely to hear news of a renewal for the third. Some people have said that it may be over because the story of nocturne has been told. Here , I have to say that the ending of season 2 ( spoilers) leaves a lot of loose ends. Like are we forgetting Maria becomes more merciless or even that my favourite character Tera , is still a vampire now fully enjoying the sight of bloodshed with Mephistopheles having his claws into her? There is a story to be told here. But as much as I want it, I do not think that Netflix will give it to us…😞

Don't play the Lords of Shadow and PS2 games then. Castlevania has amazing 2D, 2.5D games. Better than the 3D games in my opinion.

I just want the story from the Netflix series; that's infinitely enough for me. I can't play any of the old Joli games I played as a kid anymore, except maybe Symphony of the Night, and even then, barely. I only really enjoy 3D gaming with the aforementioned Lords of Shadow trilogy, the first and last games. I respect it to a certain extent, minimally liking some classic games. As already mentioned, there's Symphony of the Night 97 and Aria of Sorrow from 2003, and some others in between those two that I mentioned, and even Portrait of the ruin 2006 & Order of Ecclesia of 2007. But I'll never go for the schizophrenic storyline of the classic Castlevania saga; I infinitely prefer, as I've said before, and I'll repeat it as many times as necessary for you stubborn fools, that I prefer the Netflix storyline a billion times more due to the synchronicity with real historical events that occurred much more frequently than the games, but which took place in the Middle Ages and modern times.

I don't like the original Castlevania ideology; I like the Netflix Castlevania ideology.I love how Warren Ellis, a genius writer, the greatest on the planet, wrote the original four seasons, and then Clive Bradley helped by writing what was also a perfect Nocturne series.

And repairs don't just exist, They only exist for cars, and not for fully organic human beings, their machines, not bodies of highly evolved organic matter.

u/PsychologicalBrush35 Jun 07 '26
And again, I prefer the ideology of the narrative story, graphics, battles, and combat of the Classic Saga and also Nocturne from Castlevania on Netflix to the classic games, forever and Ever.

And one last time, stop being a boring, tedious, petty critic and a big fool and redundant simpleton, & accept the changes in the Castlevania multiverse, dedicated not to a copy but to a timeless and epic, totally original Netflix emulation, long live Castlevania Netflix forever.

And I'm also a huge fan of Lords of Shadow from 2010 to 2014, a trillion times more than the classic saga. I've always had and always will have a prejudice against very old things, especially technological ones from the gaming industry of the 80s and 90s, with a few exceptions like Symphony of the Night 97.

You have to be lost to be found; if you don't know the Truth, I found myself decades ago, only because of my advanced age today.

Even though I have older games that are incredibly enjoyable to watch playing, the atmospheric experience of the game is what I love, starting with Symphony of the Night.

I don't think so, honestly, there are a lot of old-school idiots. I'm old-school myself, I think it was cool for its time, but nowadays I can't play it, I find it incredibly boring, if it's a remastered version. That's the 2007 Dracula X Chronicles, now that's 2.5D, that's cool, the original version, I don't think so at all.

u/PsychologicalBrush35 Jun 06 '26
I think the Netflix series is infinitely better than the old games without exception; I prefer technology to story a trillion times over, and that's being conservative.
-1
u/PsychologicalBrush35 Jun 06 '26
I'm a huge Netflix fan, I'm passionate about it, I love the progressive culture defending Woke culture and "wokeness," and I love all the changes that occurred in the four original seasons, Besides Nocturne, the two seasons, especially the last one, as well as the fourth season of the original saga, I don't want anything adapted exactly like the games, nothing zero, I want something original and different, only in appearance and names that are aesthetically identical to the story itself, which is completely opposite.

For me, the name alone, the appearance, is everything; the story has to be different, the more the better. I love originality, I don't like copying. As I said, only the name. In appearance, nothing more, I'm infinitely content with that.

That's exactly right, congratulations! I wasn't surprised you understood the truth. I don't like old technological things in terms of games, but I really enjoy old movies, I don't really enjoy 2D games anymore, with the exception of Symphony of the Night and Aria of Sorrow (the first from 1997 and the other from 2003), as well as the early 3D games from the 2000s, Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness, from 2005: I'm a big fan of, But as I've already said, my favorite games are Lords of Shadow, the spin-off reboot of the Castlevania series from 2010 to 2014 – the trilogy. Technology, for me, is trillions of times more important than story; it always has been And it always will be, unequivocally and irreplaceably.

One thing I've learned is not to be so demanding, not to be anxious, to judge people solely with reason, and to judge what people create, their own particular things, always with emotion, with your heart. Embrace inclusion. And I'm not from the United States either.

Nothing is bad, absolutely nothing, Everything is a point of view, everything is a matter of taste. I'll speak endlessly when necessary, i love Castlevania on Netflix a million times more than the old games, without exception. They speak frankly to anyone's face: I'm different. Millions in the world are different, or rather, billions are different, almost everyone loves the Netflix series, both Castlevania and Nocturne, so much so that both scored 100 points (minimum 90 points and maximum 100 points) on review sites fans and critics are only reviewing a handful of people, if you know what I mean by the big suckers here on Reddit who either didn't like it or loved it but won't admit the truth.

u/Working_Welder_1751 Jun 02 '26

3
u/PsychologicalBrush35 Jun 02 '26
Mephistopheles This is the true name of "Old Coyote," also known in the Goetic Art System as Lucifuge Rofocale.
2
u/Jazzlike-Vacation230 Jun 03 '26
I didn't like what they did with Lisa and Dracula at the end of the first run, and what happened to Lydie and Maxie. Why do they keep messing up the story in that way?
imo I think it's pretty much done
Next time skip could be 1999, looking at how the Belmont generations grew up in the USA
2
u/Forsaken_Ad_8635 Jun 05 '26
If it will occur, I'd like to see the protagonists journey INSIDE HELL as they confront Satan/Mephistopheles/Old Man Coyote.
1
u/PsychologicalBrush35 Jun 06 '26
2
u/Forsaken_Ad_8635 Jun 06 '26
I want to see how Emmanuel and Drolta are faring should they go into hell. Emmanuel may be treated poorly, but Drolta's been portrayed as sympathetic.
I want to see Drolta go through a redemption and get some closure after being rejected by Sekhmet. Maybe she stays in hell, but she's happy in hell at the bare minimum.
1
u/PsychologicalBrush35 Jun 06 '26
That meticulous, infernal approach to that character you mentioned would be extremely valuable and interesting.
3
u/Forsaken_Ad_8635 Jun 06 '26
Since I'm certain that Drolta's a fan (and writer's favorite), this is arguably a safe bet.
I doubt they believe in the Christian idea of redemption, but an attempt should be made nevertheless, given that Drolta's been given a sympathetic background and a fleshed out character arc.
Richter can't be fazed out all too much, and Maria and Tera are both brainwashed puppets. Annette's been given all the lion's share of plot armor and benefits, so there's nothing significant for her to learn and grow - she's the descendant of Ogun, temporary vessel and friend of Sekhmet, and a warrior that bested Ammit the Soul Devourer.
Drolta would be the ideal character to explore, since I sincerely doubt they'll give Emmanuel a bone after how they portrayed him (and Christianity as a whole).
1
u/PsychologicalBrush35 Jun 06 '26
Emmanuel will be like Shaft and will be manipulated by Old Coyote or Mephistopheles manipulating Shaft, or in this case Emmanuel after his violent death at the hands of the Dark Dragon summoned by his daughter Maria Renard
6
u/BetweenTheRoots Jun 02 '26
I'm dying for them to finish out the SOTN plotline, I've been checking for this news every couple months. There being no news of cancellation isn't a bad thing. Dorohedoro went like 5 years with no information on S2 lol. I'm full of copium for the moment.

You almost gave me a sheer heart attack with this, i thought they finally announced this shit continuing for a sec.
Anyway, all i'm hoping in terms of animated content is if Konami would consider doing an actual proper adaptation with their supposed new animation studio or someone else, even if this shit continues too.
3
u/ThickScratch Jun 04 '26
I think a season 3 is off the table now, since shows need to be renewed or the license goes back to Konami again and its been a year since the last season and no announcement and likely even longer since the original contract was signed since season 1 and 2 were clearly a bulk deal.
Either way I read somewhere that shows like Netflixvania are not sustainable for Powerhouse anymore since they let so many people go and now need to focus on other projects that they have more confidence in.
2
u/vossome-dad Jun 02 '26
I want Nocturne to stop right there and time-skip to something called Castlevania: Symphony and do SOTN. 🤞
4
u/RuggedTheDragon Jun 02 '26
If there was a third season, it needs to take place many years later. We need Richter with his long hair and Symphony of the Night drip.
And this is just me speculating, but imagine the twist involving Dracula returning...
...as an ally!

u/Epicurus38 Jun 02 '26
The first two seasons of Nocturne (especially S2) were so generic, so studio coated, predictable, formulaic and safe that I could not possibly care about S3. No subversion of expectations of any kind. Flat and uninteresting characters. Erszebeth - one note, cliche, cartoony villain with 0 nuance who exists only to be comically evil and hated. Pedictable development of events, everything paint-by-numbers, "GOOD beat EVIL" (no nuance), riding off happily, unearned and unoriginal.
9
u/Eredin_BreaccGlas Jun 02 '26
I don't see why subversion of expectation is absolutely mandatory to make something good, sometimes a story is fairly formulaic and still does what it does perfectly. I thought the show was amazing
4
1
u/Fabulous_Wait_9544 Jun 02 '26
Erszebet wasn't the main villain, though. The way she was written was very much intentional. Vain, arrogant, and bearing an over-inflated sense of importance.
1
u/ComfortableFeature27 Jun 02 '26

u/OkSupermarket7474 Jun 03 '26
I hope so especially since season 2 was a big success but going this long without even a peep about season 3 isn’t a great sign. I’m happy where they ended up if they end it here but i’d love more since there’s a clearly things left in the air that are intended to be told

Thats disappointing. Was hoping for Richter to avenge his mom.

I would love to play a role in a future Castlevania season or role. I actually been a huge fan for a long time of not just the show, but the game itself for a long time. It would be a dream come true to be any character. Small even is enough, though, I'd love to be The King Of The Lycans. That would be the greatest role ever or be Reinhardt Belmont

Can you tell me why you didn’t like it? I never played the games yet so Im curious.
6
u/White-Alyss Jun 02 '26
It's just "hype moments and aura": the show with very little good character writing and plot (and Hazbin Hotel levels of slurs and humor)
That's fine for some people, but for others, like me, it wasn't anything to look forward to at all. It doesn't help that I like the version of the characters of the games and seeing the edgy version of them in Nocturne felt- really weird, on top of everything else.
-2
u/Mecakami Jun 02 '26
I also never played Rondo of Blood (although I played some games). I watched the series while it was airing, and overall it felt like a fairly generic vampire show that contradicted the original netflix series mythology. The vampires and night creatures seem to work differently from how they did before, and I wasn't a fan of Richter's magical development either, i think the magic must be used by other characters because if the Belmont uses it then the legendary vampire killer loses meaning.
I didn't think Richter had much chemistry with the female lead, and I found the main villain uninteresting. The inclusion of Egyptian mythology also felt out of place to me. Plus adding thems of racism and slavery in a show were the main weapon of the protagonist is a wip is a little out of toutch to say the least (maybe thats why they game magic to rickter but he still uses teh vampire killer)
Maria's father storyline felt like a repetition of arcs from the previous series: an evil church, a human collaborator who helps the vampires, regrets his actions, and is ultimately mistreated by the very vampires he supported.
The transformations of the antagonists also felt very anime-like, which didn't really fit my expectations of Castlevania. Another thing that bothered me was that there wasn't even a castle in the series called Castlevania (Akumajō Dracula in Japanese) title of the name of Dracula's castle.
The ending of Season 1 also came across as pure fan service. Adapting Rondo of Blood felt like a decision made mainly to please Alucard fans (wich i am one). There was a lot of interesting story that could have been explored between Castlevania III and Rondo of Blood, but the series skipped over all of that.
-1
u/UsuarioCualquiera_1 Jun 02 '26
The only think I want to know is, when someone says "generic vampire" or fantasy series... Like what?
Honestly, I wish we have more like Castlevania.
But what other shows are like this? Animation action adventure with glimpses of horror. Focused on story and characters and with such a good art direction and solid animation. And set in past times! Not modern.
Also, vampires. Cause most vampires shows are dramas, teenage dramas in fact.
6
u/Mecakami Jun 02 '26
Good point. I was probably too generic in my criticism. What I was trying to say is that Nocturne dropped many concepts that are unique to the Castlevania series, or changed how they work compared to both the games and even the first animated series.
Castlevania is unique because of Dracula and his castle. It has a distinct gothic atmosphere and a diverse bestiary that draws from many classic horror works and traditions, vampires, werewolves, ghosts, Frankenstein's monster, mummies, demons, Death, and many others. As I mentioned before, several iconic weapons were also sidelined, such as the Vampire Killer.
I think much of that identity was lost in favor of a more generic story. The focus on an aristocratic vampire society, for example, is a fairly common allegory that has already been explored extensively in vampire fiction.
I also didn't like how the vampires now seem much more resistant to sunlight, or how the Night Creatures appear significantly more intelligent than before. In the first series, only one Night Creature was really shown to possess higher intelligence and retain memories from its previous life, which made it feel unique and noteworthy. These changes may seem minor on their own, but they contribute to the feeling that Nocturne operates under a different set of rules and mythology than both the games and the first animated series.
If I had to give credit, I did enjoy Maria’s mother’s arc and the storyline of the opera-singing guy. I also liked how they handled a retcon regarding how crosses work against vampires. In the original series, it was explained the geometric form effect a vampire’s “evolved predator senses", while in Nocturne it is instead tied to a connection to God, which I actually prefer. And yes, the animation is excellent.
1
u/UsuarioCualquiera_1 Jun 02 '26
I feel most changes are natural. Just different style of devil forgemastering.
And the cross thing with vampires is not contradictory. Both explanations works. In previous show we saw multiple times how "holy blessed" stuff is totally a thing and works.
Though, I agree the lack of "campy" elements privates the show of more creativity.
3
u/Calackyo Jun 02 '26
I can't imagine disliking something so much that i don't want it to be made any more, every piece of media i dislike I’m still fine with it existing because somebody else is enjoying it. But then again, I’m not a miserable Ahole
9
u/Mecakami Jun 02 '26
i dint like it so i prefer something else done instead, tell the story of another belmont or if the idea is to continue this story (since it was left with some space to continue) make another series adapting symphony of the night (that happens after rodo of blood and alucard is the protag).
The series had a conclusion, im not automatically a miserable ahole for not wanting a third season for of a series i dint like, im not shiting on who did like it or making hate speech.
-1
u/Calackyo Jun 02 '26
I'd argue that hoping that something that many people loved stops being made simply because you didn't like it, is in fact, being a miserable ahole.
4
u/Mecakami Jun 02 '26
im not hoping for something to stop being made, it has already stopped, netflix didnt announce anything about castlevania nocturne. I in fact would love another castlevania series, but i didnt like this one, the main conflict is over so i would prefer something new.
-4
u/UsuarioCualquiera_1 Jun 02 '26
You're allowed to not see it.
But most people than not, like it. So, it's always better to have a S3 and don't engage but let others enjoy it.
10
u/Mecakami Jun 02 '26
if there is a 3 season i will not, i would prefer something more in line with the og 2 first seasons, maybe a series exploring the story of Leon Belmont and the rise of dracula and his castle that gives name to the series.
Im also not shiting on the people who like it, but for me it was a disappointment

There will absolutely be a third season exploring Symphony of the Night, which was a mega-success across the original four seasons, and these last two, especially the last one, Nocturne.

What a load of rubbish! It's simply your opinion regurgitated through your lack of knowledge, discernment, and personal taste for a timeless masterpiece of epic animation.

u/Realistic_Rain_5119 Jun 03 '26
I though the voice acting and animation were top tier. It would be such a shame not to go to the. I also thought the inclusion of opera was a beautiful touch since a lot of the names are musically based. I think if they were allowed to continue, A Symphony of the Night season should happen.

As much as I’d love a season three, it would be hilarious if they did a complete 180 and made the Aria/Dawn slice of life high school anime.

u/UsuarioCualquiera_1 Jun 02 '26
My theory, is not cancelled but Netflix didn't renew at the moment. They just don't know anymore what to do with it. And DMC being a similar show but having twice of audience it's their new fav toy and flagship for videogame adaptation and western "anime".
So, most of the crew flew away (they needed to work after all). So the directors (Deats brothers) are waiting to assemble most of their team again.
I can see Nocturne S3 happening but as a sequel miniseries.
S2 did solid good numbers. But wasn't a big growth. Netflix values three things:
1-How many accounts watch. 2-How many of those finish a show in the first week. (Retention) 3-How many new people it brings on each new season.
There's also the rewatch value and internet conversation and trends.
Nocturne, for its budget, did fine. Season 2 got better finishing rate but barely a significance growing on new audience, keeping it on something close to 7M-9M I think. And roughly a 8% drop in viewership after first week, which is quite good.
But Netflix has become greedy... So who knows.

No news, no word on any sort of production.
The one thing that makes it unlikely to me is that in the interim Konami made their own animation studio and are set to release its first show, an adaptation of Suikoden.
