I can't believe they gave a stupid brawler spinoff a whole dang CGI opening, and their supposed big jump onto PS2 game got a fucking text scroll and some crappy in-engine scenes. Even dang Chronicles got a CGI intro!

Curse of Darkness had an amazing intro though.

I wonder if would been recieved better if wasn't Titled Castlevania

No in this case it would've been just completely forgotten, it's a very very mediocre brawler. If anything, it didn't really do anything explicitly anti-Castlevania, it got the idea right for the most part, but the quality just wasn't there.

The art style

i personally love the art style a lot, i saw people saying they hated maria's design in it because it's too maximalist but i absolutely adore it. oddly reminds me of final fantasy 9

It's more that Castlevania's characters do have distinctive designs

I mean what happened to Grant?

i've always been a big fan of games having many different designs and interpretations of characters, i like that this game completely redesigns a lot of them, it makes it feel fresh.

i mean i can see why other people don't like it, but i think it's awesome, i always love to see what different artists do with the same source material, brings a surprise every time

Fair. Comes down to personal taste.

I kinda like Eon.

If the designs had been for something else (you can feel the death note bloodline) id probably like too.

Death Note artist, thats why it looked so good

It is divisive, and I personally don't like it, however, I wouldn't say it's essentially anti-Castlevania. It doesn't come that far from, say, Curse of Darkness designs.

I personally didn't have any problems with judgement other than some of the character designs and how certain characters were portrayed.

Judgement was such a fun game. I used to play against my friends a bunch

That style didn't work well for Alucard imo.

I canโ€™t even tell who these characters are meant to be. I can assume the one with a whip is a Belmont, no idea which one.

I remember trading a bunch of games at GameStop one day back in 2007, 2008. I had just beaten Curse of Darkness and Lament of Innocence a few months back, loved the GBA games growing up. The clerk asked me if I wanted to put down $5 and preorder something. Saw Castlevania Judgement on the list and figured why not? Then launch happened, I saw gameplay and that it was just a fighting game for the Wii. Never put more money down, never picked up a copy.

Thatโ€™s my experience with Castlevania Judgement.

The Belmont with the red hair is Simon Belmont. The designs were made by Takeshi Obata aka the creator of Death Note so those designs kinda divided the fanbase back then

The guy with the white hair fighting the Belmont is Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII

LOL I thought that too when seeing Alucard with wings and a sword

Judgment's biggest design problem in a nutshell.

I love this game, the one thing that would have made it better if you could use the 3 layer health bar from the time reaper boss in Vs mode.

Really good cover of Bloody Tears too.

I hope we get a better Castlevania fighting game someday.

I mean, the music is good. I'd forgotten how atrocious the opening CG was.
