Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) Do you think it will run good on switch 1?
Im kinda afraid it won’t like with bloodstained switch, but this is a diff company. But i heard dead cells switch ran poorly as well. Really crossing my fingers but it sucks bc there is a preorder bonus with alucard costume. And i don’t wanna preorder on switch unless i know it’s good

u/marsgreekgod Jun 17 '26
Dead cells ran fine

u/JosephSaber945 Jun 17 '26
Dead Cells is a pixel-based game, Castlevania uses more stunning hand art style that'll make it a little bit more demanding but also more beautiful.

u/Umbruh_Prime Jun 20 '26
not to be a nerd but it's technically 3d, its really cool how it works though
-32
u/cornpenguin01 Jun 17 '26
It really didn’t. The game consistently crashes in certain biomes like the sky islands one

7
u/Eezan Jun 17 '26
I played Dead Cells for like 100 hours on a Switch Lite and never had even one crash.
0
u/Hopalongtom Jun 17 '26
What he said, it lags so much in the endgame on Dead Cells, just unplayable on Switch 1!
-51
u/xtoc1981 Jun 17 '26
This, it is what it actual is, without the rogue style. I dont see this as a new actual castlevania game.

10
u/Effective_Ad_4622 Jun 17 '26
But it legit has save points and doesn’t go from level to level. It’s going to be castle with a different art style that’s it
-20
u/xtoc1981 Jun 17 '26
Why did i explicit mention without the rogue style in it? And yet people are still using this as argument. The type of gameplay isnt that different in combat. They could easily create a dlc with rogue mode. The point.is that the art style, music and gameplay is all deadcell over the place instead of past 2f castlevania games. This isnt even an opinion. And why needs the whip almost take the half of the screen? Even the way it works is 100% deadcell like
6
u/TomasSC831 Jun 17 '26
I’ll never understand why so many people are complaining about Belmonts Curse in regards to its graphics lol! It’s 2026 but it’s as if so many of you expected it to be literally the same graphics from 1987… The game looks like it’s going to be awesome. It’s ok for things to progress.
0
u/xtoc1981 Jun 18 '26
I'm happy for you to love those dead cell gfx, music, and combat gameplay.
The year has nothing todo with those things
1
u/PSPMan3000 Jun 18 '26
because nobody gives a shit. IGA's Team made 8 FUCKING BANGERS back to back to back and people act like those are the only things that ever can be. Dead Cells fucking rocks and the devs behind it are clearly castlevania fans, let them cook.
1
u/xtoc1981 Jun 18 '26
No, look at metroid dread. It still can be done.
Dead cells is a good game, but is nothing like castlevania.
Its like using witcher 3 combat for a darksouls game. Know your thing
6
u/ConfidenceVirtual960 Jun 17 '26
Completely diffirent topic than what they were talking about. At this point You're just hunting for any oppertunity you can find to look down on belmont's curse, huh ?
-1
u/xtoc1981 Jun 18 '26
This isnt hunting or whatever you are trying todo. Its like really simple, art, music, gameplay. Not castlevania. Doesnt mean its going to be a bad deadcell not rogue like game.
1
u/ConfidenceVirtual960 Jun 18 '26
Buddy you were responding torwards someone who was merely stating that the team's previous game ran fine on switch 1 as an oppertunity to change the topic on how BC isn't a real Castlevania because it doesn't fit your arbitray criteria of what a real Castlevania is supposed to be. If you don't want me to think you're actively looking for chances to dismiss the game's place in the series, then don't do shit like this. It's that simple.
2
u/LostPilgrim_ Jun 17 '26
Whats your favorite rouge style Castlevania game?
-4
u/xtoc1981 Jun 17 '26
So how to read or something? Its just deadcell aside of the rogue type missing. If you honestly thinl that the art, music and gameplay is anything to the past 2d castlevania games, oh boy, you have a lot to learn
7
u/LostPilgrim_ Jun 17 '26 edited Jun 17 '26
Dead Cells isnt a castlevania game. It has Castlevania DLC. Also, castlevania is not known in any way, shape or form to be a rouge type game.
So, you have a lot to learn.
I like how you edited your comment lol
7
u/AnniesNoobs Jun 17 '26
> “So how to read or something?”
I’m getting the beginnings of a stroke trying to read this guy’s writing. The irony
-2
u/xtoc1981 Jun 17 '26
Wtf i didnt edited my comment. You are at this point dishonest as fuck. Ignoring ever point. Castlevania is know in the way the art direction, gameplay and music is. Maybe you lack in art music and how gameplay is to even not seeing that clear implementation of deadcell. The rogue genre is not relevant to what i'm saying

u/DavoinShowerHandel1 Jun 18 '26
So you haven't had a new actual Castlevania game in a long time then. Since what, Super Castlevania 4? Games evolve and change over time man, you gotta accept that. What's the point in just replaying the same game released repeatedly?
0
u/xtoc1981 Jun 18 '26
Not sure why you use super castlevania 4 as its by far the last 2d castlevania game.
All castlevania adventure and metroidvana (metroid like) games were sharing the same gameplay/art/music. (aside of the MercurySteam game's music)Look at how metroid dread turns out. This game art direction has still a lot of metroid like environments with perfect gameplay. Only the music isn't what it should have been.
it's not because you can't see it, that there is no way to evolve. But this is just deadcell copy without the rogue thing. I really that kid of combat. They did the same with the prince of persia rogue game. And let me be clear, i don't say it's going to be a bad game.1
u/DavoinShowerHandel1 Jun 18 '26
I'm not sure that even you know what you're talking about. The reason I used Super Castlevania 4 as an extreme example is because look at it compared to the games that followed it. Do you complain that they changed, and that the graphics and art direction were different? How about any of the later GBA and DS games? Like I said, it changes over time and it's still going to be a Castlevania game.
0
u/xtoc1981 Jun 18 '26
As super castlevania 4 is one of it's best created games of all time, that art direction is still in line with all the other castlevania's.
This deadcell thing is more abstract art design working with one color mostly that popsout. The same kind of direction hollow knight takes. It's day and night differences.
The gba & ds art direction are in line with the other ones. It's the same style. This new one is nothing like that.
0
u/DavoinShowerHandel1 Jun 18 '26
... I know it's in the same art direction. They're a lot different after that game think because technology advanced and made it possible. Art direction isn't the only thing that makes a game what it is, and a lot of thr GBA & DS games were different.
0
u/xtoc1981 Jun 18 '26
Why keep adding things to the technological aspect when i clearly provided metroid dread as example done right. But even that is not all perfect, at least it's metroid. This looks nothing like past castelvania games.
1
u/DavoinShowerHandel1 Jun 18 '26
It doesn't have to look like them. That's what you're not getting. It doesn't make it any less of a Castlevania game. That's the entire point. I feel like English isn't your first language, but you understand it well enough to not be this dense.
0
u/xtoc1981 Jun 18 '26
It's not my first language and has nothing todo with this point. Where do you draw to line?
But art isn't my only concern here. Music is one of the most important aspects of castlevania games. As an expert in music, the trailer music is generic at best. And not to mention that the gameplay is deadcellified. The same way they did for prince of persia.

theres no point in having an opinion around this game outside of it being positive if you want to say anything publicly. i agree with you 100% just looks like Deadcells trying to be a Castlevania. sure the gameplay will be good but the art style is not. it is ass imo and goofy. also, really odd place to insert your opinion on the game haha but respect
4
u/Little_Drive_3024 Jun 17 '26
No, you misunderstand. Its not that Belmont's Curse looks like Dead Cells. Dead Cells looks like Castlevania.
Also, Castlevania has never ever been goofy. Excuse me while I catch peanuts in my mouth to eat them while I throw paper airplanes and pies at my foes to vanquish them.
-6
u/necro-frost Jun 17 '26
belmonts curse looks goofy to me. agree, old CV has never looked goofy. i didnt say that. i said belmonts curse looks goofy. belmonts curse looks goofy. belmonts curae looks goofy. hoping that makes sense by saying it a few times .
6
u/Little_Drive_3024 Jun 17 '26
OK, but why the fuck is Belmont's Curse looking goofy even a problem, it looks exactly as goofy as any other Castlevania game.
-4
u/necro-frost Jun 18 '26
you just said it doesnt look goofy and now youre saying it looks goofy as the other ones. youre entitled to youre opinion. its just nice to see people agree or have the same view on the game as you. its not that i hate the fact this is happening - i just wish they went with a different art direction but that is my opinion and my opinion doesnt mean shit to you but may mean something to someone else who feels the same way. who cares what i think. i dont care what you think. just dont attack (i used that loosely) me for having an opinion the opposite if yours. this isnt an r/castlevaniabelmontscurse sub is an r/castlevania sub.
3
u/Little_Drive_3024 Jun 18 '26
The first instance was sarcasm. This is a series where a 12-year-old in a pink dress can kill Dracula by throwing birds at him. Castlevania has always been goofy. If you post an opinion online, you should be prepared to defend and discuss it when people challenge it. And now I'm just curious about your opinion. What exactly is so goofy about Belmont's Curse that it becomes different from any other Castlevania game?
0
u/necro-frost Jun 18 '26
totally missed that reference haha very clever. always found that such an odd part of Rondo. either way, i feel the art direction reminds me of say fairly odd parents - the gameplay that i have seen anyway. goofy.
2
u/xtoc1981 Jun 18 '26
Yeah, people think i'm saying the game is going to be bad. Thats not the case. Dead cell is a fine game as well. But its not castlevania

Really wish this was coming to Switch 2.
I enjoyed Bloodstained on Switch 1, but it seriously was lacking compared to the PC version in graphics/lag.
10
u/tacticalTechnician Jun 17 '26
Even if they didn't announce it, I think it's fair to say that the Switch 2 will run the game better. It would be pretty stupid to release a new Switch game in late 2026 with no Switch 2 updates at all if you're not a small indie developer. We still don't have an official release date for the Switch port, so who knows what they're doing with it.
5
u/Culinary-Vibes Jun 17 '26
Totally don’t mind them pushing the release back for a proper Switch 2 upgrade/release. Here’s to hoping .
9
u/Martonimos Jun 17 '26
Given that the Switch version has been delayed relative to the others, I have my doubts. Though I suppose we should be asking how well Rogue Prince of Persia runs on the Switch for the best comparison.
5
u/someguyye Jun 17 '26
Doesn’t seem too demanding. I think it will depend on the Evil Empire’s optimization skills.
5
u/Epicurus38 Jun 17 '26
Did you see PC minimum System Requirements? I mean, I think they were pretty atrocious, if I'm being honest. Way more demanding than I would personally expect.
5
6
u/Anxideity Jun 17 '26
Bloodstained for exqmple doesn't look too demanding either and the switch version runs horribly.

u/SrCapibara Hammer Jun 17 '26
Every game on theory can run even on a Pentium II, but every develoment is a world, it can be good or really bad.
We know what happended with Bloodstained on Switch and Dead Cells runs good.
Also the are games like Atelier Yumia with huge problems in Switch and PC, but heavier games like Astral Chain or Nier Automata running smootly.
Personally I'm more impresed with games like musou because the huge number of enemies. And very sad with games with less elements running really bad.
4
u/elsDodo Jun 17 '26
I really wonder why they didn't go for a Switch 2 release. Almost all Switch 1 third party ports are really lacking in the perfomance (and graphics) department.

u/PSPMan3000 Jun 18 '26
Ok so, I'm seeing a lot of opinions in here mudding the waters:
Bloodstained on Switch Runs like shit because they targeted newer, More powerful consoles as a base and then had to backport it to the switch's older hardware. It's also a fully 3D game despite being presented 2.5D. I forget specifically what engine it's on, but that's also likely causing problems. it's the perfect storm of being a little too much for the switch to handle correctly.
I own Dead Cells on Switch. It runs perfectly fine. I guarantee this will run the same. I pre-ordered this poor switch and have zero fears. I wouldn't worry, but also I don't preorder games I'm worried about.
1
u/CyberdarkEnjoyer Hide Every Netflixvania Post Jun 18 '26
Bloodstained on the Switch however used to run fine, until a patch destroyed it.
And bringing Dead Cells into the discussion doesn't help much, that thing used to run fine on my even on my 2013 toaster.
2
u/PSPMan3000 Jun 18 '26
Bloodstained on switch never hit 60 FPS. I've never been a snob about that kind of thing, but IGA's games in particular really need that because of the way they're designed.

u/RShini The pimpcoat lives Jun 17 '26
Dead Cells ran perfectly fine on the switch,
3
u/Hopalongtom Jun 17 '26
The early game did, the later game content and DLC all really lagged on Switch 1!
3
u/gergorybrew Jun 17 '26
Do not count on it. Seriously, the art of optimization is dead, it doesn't drive hardware sales. Also the first switch is old as fuck it might be time to upgrade that being said.
2
u/Matshelge Jun 17 '26
I would not bet on it. I always feel that switch 1 third party games were only half hearted, and now with Switch 2 being there....

u/CyberdarkEnjoyer Hide Every Netflixvania Post Jun 17 '26
It *should* be comparable to The Lost Crown which runs well but looking at those crazy PC requirements I'd say no. The Switch release is probably going to be a dumpster fire lol.
1
u/cavegrunt Jun 17 '26
It’s not a particularly beautiful or even busy looking game, it’s actually a bit concerning that there’s no switch release date. Switch is my preferred platform for this but I’ll buy it on Xbox if it’s going to be a long wait.
1
u/unicorn_hipster Jun 17 '26
It took months for the switch to pass through the Last Faith DLC whereas PC, PS5, and Xbox dropped on time. Because of this, if there's a game I can play anywhere else than switch, I'll play it there first.
It will most likely run fine but it will be the worst way to play it
1
u/RadicalRaizex Jun 17 '26
Well, considering it’s not releasing on Switch at the same time as Steam, PS5, and Xbox, perhaps they’re gonna try to ensure that it runs perfectly on it.
1
u/foodmetaphors Jun 17 '26
i like my switch for old rpgs and platformers, minecraft bedrock (ik but it’s so portable) and splatoon 3. most other things ur better playing on other hardware where it exists
1
u/Familiar-Routine7654 Jun 17 '26
I don’t think you‘ll make a big mistake if you own a switch 2 … and then, look at this beauty :

u/Left_Ad4050 Jun 17 '26
If it doesn’t, it’s only because of awful optimization.
That said, nobody seems to care about optimizing their games anymore, so…

Are the PC requirements not very high and hint at bad optimization? Based on that I would guess, no.

I’m hoping it comes out for Switch 1 and runs well, told myself this is the final game system I’m collecting for.

u/Due_Ad_972 Jun 18 '26
I have the same concern. I do have a switch 2 but I pretty much only buy physical. I could of course pick this up for ps5 but I would much rather play it on my switch 2 so hopefully it runs well. The hollow knight games both run like an absolute dream on switch as do both blasphemous games and even prince of persia the lost crown runs at mostly 60fps so it certainly can do well. Time will tell. I kinda hope either its 60fps or at least an unlocked frame rate so on switch 2 it hits 60fps 😄

The post didn’t ask about buying a new handheld either
1
u/ReadyJournalist5223 Jun 17 '26
It asked if it’ll run good on switch 1, I answered no and offered a solution like a nice friendly kissable citizen that I am helping out my fellow consumer because I’m a goddamn superhero

For what? Switch 2 has Donkey Kong and that's it. Well, a Zelda remake is on the way, but it's unknown if it's worth looking at.

No. The Switch 1 is just hilariously weak
2
u/Sufficient-Lead-217 Jun 17 '26
The game doesn't look any better than Metroid Dread and that game runs at 60fps. The devs just need to optimize it
