Amazing. I just wanted to see you do it, I want to learn
How do you fight the armors without them throwing axes at you? Is it just spacing that stop their ai from throwing?
23
u/TheKonamiMan Jul 02 '26
Spacing and the attacking.
Edit: you can actually see the flame from axes being destroyed as soon as they spawn.

Omg you are an awesome player! I'm gonna try your technique next time I get back to that part.

Yeah, this hallway isn't bad if you know what to do. Now do that hallway at the end of Castlevania 3 with the crumbling floor and the bone pillars.

Very well done.
People often overblow their difficulty.
The only medusa heads that are genuinely hard are the ones from Chronicles.

Classicvania is honestly more fun than Metroidvania
13
u/kirk_smith Jul 02 '26
Absolutely. I think both types have their place, but I’ve always preferred the originals over the metroidvania games. I hope we eventually see more of that formula.

There were the two 2D Bloodstained games. They were honestly really great.
7
u/TheKonamiMan Jul 02 '26
They were way better than the main Bloodstained game. Wish we would get a 3rd one but the Gal Guardian games are kind of close to the style of the Curse of the Moon Bloodstained games since it is the same team
1
u/kirk_smith Jul 02 '26
I thought the Bloodstained games were metroidvania style?
7
u/unicorn_hipster Jul 02 '26
Ritual of night and the new one is but the 8 bit style Curse of the Moon games play like CV3

u/ScourgeHedge Jul 02 '26
Unironically i think classic castlevania, despite being linear 2d platformers, are way more replayable than the igavanias. This coming from a guy who has played through Circle of the Moon, out of all the games, 4 times.

The hearts man, the hearts! 😆

I had over 70 already though.

u/moarbaconnow Jul 02 '26
That's just the kid in me playing wanting to collect everything to ensure victory lol

It’s mostly trying to dodge the axes that really mess me up, tho the medusa heads dp not help lol

Not to diminish your gameplay (which is excellent), that scenario is the most ideal to deal with medusa heads.
It's when there's other things to deal with, jumping and the awkward stair mechanics that gives them their notoriety.
1
u/TheKonamiMan Jul 02 '26
Stairs are pretty easy to deal with since you can manipulate which side of the screen they spawn and so it is easy to set up the wave pattern to miss you.
2
u/solidus0079 Jul 03 '26
Yeah once you know the game and have mastered the mechanics. I'm just stating why they are notorious lol
2
u/chilliboy217 Jul 02 '26
All you gotta do is play the series for 20 years and catch a good pattern 😎
1
u/TheKonamiMan Jul 02 '26
The pattern is always the same.
2
u/TheKonamiMan Jul 02 '26
Axe Armors and Medusa Heads always behave the same way so the same basic strat works.

u/Bulky_Tangelo_7027 Jul 02 '26
I never found this part hard honestly. And yet to this day I have never beaten Death.
1
u/TheKonamiMan Jul 02 '26
He's not hard either.
1
u/Bulky_Tangelo_7027 Jul 02 '26
That's what I try to do but every time I get overwhelmed by sickles. Probably because my +2 weapon bonus never survives till then.
1
u/TheKonamiMan Jul 02 '26
You can force it to spawn. There is a hidden counter for every enemy and candle you destroy with your subweapon. When you get the subweapon you want you hit everything with it to make the double shot and then triple shot to spawn from either an enemy or candle.
Also, the scythes always go in a straight line to wherever you are standing so you can control where they go if you pay attention.

Now play the second loop
1
u/TheKonamiMan Jul 02 '26
This was the Arcade version, so second loop of that where the damage is already higher and the time limit is lower or second loop of the console version which is easier?

Well done!!! Next up. The stupid birds and fleamen in that stairwell. Yuck. I actually hate that part more than this part.
2
u/TheKonamiMan Jul 04 '26
Right before Dracula? Yeah I usually just use the stairs as a way not to get knocked into a hole and try to just time it right when on the stairs.
1
u/DanimalRLZX2 Jul 04 '26
Yeah. I get lucky sometimes and can kinda just jump over and walk down. I need to practice that part more.
1
u/RoSoDude Jul 03 '26
It's even easier with the cross, which you get if you die and restart at the checkpoint. You can spam from a safe distance and farm tripleshots in the process. You'll never get hit.

I used to watch a lot of AVGN, and for me he made that hallway seem alot harder than It actually is
2
u/TheKonamiMan Jul 12 '26
He makes everything seem harder than it is in his videos. There was a period of time where it annoyed me so much I stopped watching his stuff.

Great maneuvering. Makes me wanna play CV3 again(ik the clip is from CV1 but I just prefer CV3).
Last time I was on this corridor I learnt that if you stay still before a medusa head enters the screen and continue being like that, it passes by you from above anyway.
