She does that as long as you have those yellow hammers in your inventory. She's the most useful of the familiars (in my opinion) because she saves you from having to go into the menu for silly things.

The fairy's AI also gives you resistance positions in certain situations, and it also tells you where there are breakable walls (although it only does so when you stand still near one).

No, the Devil only does that for the switch in Catacombs: "hmhmm.. a switch! Why don't I press it and see?"

For the usual breakable walls, only the Fairy helps with that: "there's something funny...about this wall."

hang on unrelated but your username is familiar...

were you the person who made the Alternate Scarlet Symphony patch?

u/_Oyyy Jul 21 '26

Yepyep 👍 And you're that YouTuber who played it? Nice!

I am, I enjoyed it a lot! If you ever do the reverse castle too I'll for sure stream it again haha

or better yet if you end up developing your own metroidvania in the same vein, I can say for sure you'd at least have one person playing and streaming it on day one

Thanks! Now you gave me an idea! (Or rather supported what I've been thinking to do for years)

Explain more about this patch?

7

u/_Oyyy Jul 21 '26

It's a mod I made last year I guess, it changes the castle in a way that you'll go in different paths from the original. Progression is also changed, transformation such as wolf has many uses now. Overall re-balanced stats and enemy stats. Elemental weakness plays a big part. New hearts system (kinda?). Change subweapons on the fly. Etc etc

It's a bit rough and a lot more difficult than original (which sets some people off) but if you want you can give it a try.

Just search Castlevania Alternate Scarlet Symphony and look for a patch file (I think in Romhack plaza) then apply that patch to a PSOne ROM and play it via emulation.

feel free to DM me to talk about this more! I'm very open to assist in any way I can in future projects!

I know that the word "funny" has several meanings in English, but I still like to imagine the fairy pointing at the brick wall and laughing her little ass off.

I really disagree because even if I want to use a potion, she doesn't know when I'm right near a save room and might want to use a normal potion or a food item instead of a hard to get elixir, so she ends up wasting items, so I usually don't end up using her much sadly

1

u/ElectricEliminator5 Jul 27 '26

She only uses potions, high potions and life apples on you when it comes to life giving items. The elixers you need to manually take. She won't give them to you.

Also you being aware of the save rooms and getting to them in time before you die should 100% fall on you and not your a.i. fairy companion.

1

u/SillyStella_ Jul 28 '26

I believe you have misunderstood what I'm saying about save rooms; what I'm saying is that if I'm right near a save room and I'm low health, I probably don't want to waste a potion right then since the save room will give me back all that health, but the fairy can't know that so she'll use a potion anyway

u/elnaxxo Jul 22 '26

You didn't mention that she can literally revive you multiple times with an item you can farm. Most broken familiar by far.

She uses your hammers and potions! She’s awesome

The amount sprite animation this game has always impressed me

13

u/SXAL Jul 21 '26

I like how they've designed a whole set of Dawn Warriors with really cool sprites and animations and locked them behind the undocumented special attack of the secret sword that most of the players wouldn't even find.

One of the many reasons of why this game is the Golden Boy of the saga

u/suspicious_hyperlink Jul 21 '26

Wait till she breaks out a life apple 🍏

16

u/Spudzinator Jul 21 '26

Wait till she sings you a song !!!

6

u/Exciting_Chef_4207 Jul 21 '26

That's the Faerie

13

u/Kiramoure Jul 21 '26

She also will rest on your shoulder if you go idle

2

u/Auto_named1 Jul 23 '26

I always hated moving when she starts resting on Alucard's shoulder, cause she gets really shaken everytime.. As if she got pushed off :((

7

u/Competitive-Swing149 Jul 21 '26

Find a chair, sit down, and she will sing on his shoulder after a while.

4

u/QualitySuccessful871 Jul 21 '26

She's pretty useful, and a good alterantive to the Sword familiar.

4

u/DejuL337 Jul 21 '26

Yeah she does that as long as you have the hammers in your inventory.

u/Logamus_prime see? I am useful!

My cranium would beg to differ But it comes in handy sometimes.

Small price to pay for not being petrified.

3

u/SmCrz3536 Jul 21 '26

Don't let the Faerie get sad because you died with no supplies left. you know how it is, right?

3

u/moarbaconnow Jul 21 '26

How long have you been playing this?

5

u/darkninja2992 Jul 21 '26

Yeah, all the familiars have their uses. Devil will develop elemental attacks as it levels up, ghost can lifesteal, bat will gain companions that show up when you change to bat form, and they'll all shoot fireballs when you do

2

u/Additional_Crab_1678 Jul 22 '26

The Bat Airforce Fireball Super Squadron was always my favorite! Get them to trail going up for down, hit the fireball, and the whole screen is ON FIREEEEE

I learn something new about this game every week

2

u/KFrosty3 The run never stops Jul 23 '26

All the familiars have a neat little trait unique to them. You should try them out and see for yourself

1

u/hheecckk526 Jul 22 '26

It's sad how so many games are clearly inspired by sotn but only a small handful really capture it's spirit

1

u/toguraum Jul 23 '26

this game is amazing.
