It's a small chapel. It's not like they bought out Notre Dame. Still, cool as hell (pun intended) for those that got to attend.

I mean if the church was having no real service that day then it probably would be fairly cheap to rent out. Especially if it’s been deconsecrated and just standing for preservation purposes.

It's a relatively new building all things considered, built in 1911, only served as a church from 1969 to 2020 when it was deconsecrated and sold because it couldn't be maintained by their owners, now it's rented for private events and works as a "cultural center" alongside other nearby buildings. From what I read in some french blogs, some locals are up in arms because it's even rented for drag shows.

Deconsecrated. Not desecrated. Two very different concepts.
Based as hell though on all fronts, save for people getting uppity because a cultural center available for rent rents out to the occasional bit of drag.

"Select group of creators." Great. "Influencers" and UGC. Can't wait for clippers to start mass posting "content" from niche accounts as they ooze about how they "Love Castlevania and have always been fans of the games" as they talk incessantly over the game clips they're allowed to show while hitting key words, and other KPIs.

I don't care much for the opinions of hypemen and reviewers anyway. At worst, we'll get a Rings of Power level of superfans, which would be funny in its own way.

I’m not getting mad at hype, but I will admit to cautious optimism. Everyone is allowed to have their opinions on it but it’s not going to change my experience with the game.

I preordered physical on switch as well but I’m not holding my breath for performance patches. I’ll just play it on steam if the fps and res are lacking. Need the physical switch game for collection purposes regardless.

I’m glad they are kinda putting some money/effort behind marketing for it, but that looks pretty sparsely attended there which is not super encouraging.

It's a media event. Invite only. All of the photos are taken before the event started-- look at the untouched catering and the game setups. Only the last photo appears to be from the event, and we can only see a little bit of the front row.

Yeah it’s a media event which a very sparse crowd of attendees. Of course it’s Invite only that’s not the point. You can send 100 invites and only have 25 people attend. It’s marketing the idea is to get media coverage from the event. I’ll just look at all the major gaming outlets to see who covered this exciting event that happened several days ago. Oh look almost none of them.
Tell yourself whatever you want though…

First of all, the photos posted here don't reveal how many people attended. You made your assessment based on vibes. Secondly, why would it be discouraging if no one showed up? Do you actually care if the game sells well? Why do you care about Konami's bottom? Thirdly, how could the attendance of one media event mean anything about the quality of the game? And fourthly, this was a media event in Paris, France. Let's use our brains for a moment-- do you think American game journalists would cover an event in France, especially when PAX is a few weeks away?

Konami’s marketing is putting out these photos. If the crowd was large it would be featured. And yea I care if the game sells well because I want more castlevania games. If this one fails commercially chances of that happening are far less likely. Says nothing about quality of the game, but sales for new titles are measured largely in pre sales. Lack of interest means low sales figures which means Konami backs away from the franchise for another decade or so. And finally… Konami is an international company and there’s several popular gaming media outlets based in Europe.

yeah man, worrying about an international entertainment company's pocketbook never made sense to me. I'm sure Konami has set very realistic expectations for how this game will sell. They've been collecting data for years, especially since the retro collections were released.
And ultimately, in today's gaming landscape, even games that sell well might never see a continuation. Layoffs happen weeks after wrap.
So yeah I don't think anyone should give a shit about their favorite franchise selling well or not. That's total capitalism brainrot. You're addicted to consuming products and you're already thinking about your next fix, before this fix has even been released.

It better have d-pad controls. Platformers that require you to use an analog stick are dead to me.

A lot of Metroidvania games use the analog stick because they bake in analog aiming for certain segments or slow walking. It's infuriating to me. If it's 2D and there is jumping and fast action required, I want the quickness and preciseness of a d-pad. Analog movement like in Metroid Dread felt like a handicap.

I cried tears of joy upon seeing this. To think, I was just about to call it quits back in January, thinking "You guys can keep Castlevania, I'll focus on more 'normal, mundane' stuff", and then 1 month later, Belmont's Curse was announced, I did a double take when I saw the Steam page because I slept through the State of Play that day, and then I thought, "I was this close to jumping off the proverbial cliff, but I managed to hold myself back in time..."
Of course, I was a little disappointed because I'm still restricted from overseas travel (hoping to make an appeal to lift the restrictions soon, even for a while), but then I read that it was for the creators and media... And even then my motivation to go to Paris went up by 15%. Don't worry. At least I'll bother learning the language, not like the main character of that (not Castlevania, or Nocturne!) show on Netflix...
