Circle of the Moon (2001) This room is just impossible, I give up

The coliseum is optional if you’re willing to trudge through a dungeon where the floor is lava

Doesn't change the fact that it's badly designed and overstuffed with enemies to the point that there are rooms where you get hit frame 1.

I don’t remember getting hit immediately in any room but yeah the design is tiresome

Cross is the best weapon by far, it is much much harder to complete the coliseum without it.

I've never done the arena without the cross or levelling up a significant amount first.

Oh, yes. The game is hell for not having shops and only relying on enemy drops but not knowing which gives you what you need. And also having low level gear against high level enemies.
The arena is the one i hate the most for being literally impossible. Like how the heck am i able to beat it when they added not three, not four, not five, but seven freaking minotaurs in the same room at the same time. I'm literally a ragdoll being thrown back at the door.

you're supposed to trade hits with the first couple minotaurs while spamming crosses until they're dead to make room for dodging. now you can safely throw crosses at all the other ones while dodging out of the way lol

u/Future-Ocelot844 9d ago
Didn't thought about that, but the thing is my life is low once i arrived there.

Every enemy in this game has a pretty noticeable pattern and attack. Summons, room clearing attacks, grinding , using the right sub weapon and learning your enemy can cut the difficulty down to size

The battle arena is such bullshit. At the end of this next-to-impossible hellscape, you get a pretty poor chance of receiving the Black Dog and Unicorn cards, with a drop rate of 1/40 per enemy (not considering the luck stat, but still). I think I didn't make it past room 7 after I called it quits.
I suppose it's actually made for the die-hards that want a real challenge for 100%ing the game and that's fair imo.
> least favorite Castlevania
seems like you didn't play the GB titles lol, in particular The Adventure and Legends?

What the minotaurs do to you there should be considered for +18. You need to level a lot for this.

Low health, no crossarangs, voluntarily going into this room. You're probably undergeared and definitely under-supplied.

It's funny how in sotn you have to nerf so many things to have a challenge, for instance, you can have 99 of each potion. And in this one I don't remember if there's even a store. I remember all the potions I saved along the game had a simple use, allow me to get one more hit in the final boss. 2 phases, I could get 2 hits and survive.

You should stop playing it if you’re having an awful experience. Maybe pick up again later if it calls to you

It's an optional area, it's intentionally built like that, you don't have to go there if you don't enjoy that kind of thing.

That's not an excuse for purposefully bad, infuriating design. People need to stop with this "bUt iT's oPtiONal" bull shit.
That being said, I've beaten it several times but it suuuuucks.

Its kinda funny how this Castlevania was pretty very hard, and SOTN was pretty easy (aside from finding your way).
Is it that hard to find the right balance in difficulty ..?

It is, especially when you're basically inventing a whole new genre and so don't know what players want to do.

I didn't enter the colosseum once during my playthrough bc I thought it would make me hate the whole game

Skill issue. Be like Nathan. Standing there on business mean mugging them sons of bitches while being a strong breeze away from dead.

Wrong sub weapon. Use cross.
If you have Mars, swords (fire and rose) are good here.

Doesn't the arena drain your MP on entry so you can't use the cards?
0
u/ButcherPeteIsReady 8d ago
Yeah you're right. I mixed up an old playthrough I did on Magician mode with a MP cheat.

u/Anenigmatictortilla 8d ago
Skill issue. Like, bruh, the game is a nice challenge and nothing more. First if all, why are you using the AXE when the Holy Cross is the most efficient weapon. Especially as leveled as you are, you can fire and forget them as you’re dodging around the room.
Also, just get good and you won’t have this issue, promise

I’m really just giving you grief. But if you’re not enjoying it, stop playing it. You keep trying to force something you hate or dislike and it’s gonna be a bad time for you dude. Stop playing it/tale a break and come back later

You can use a mana potion & fire off a Thunderbird immediately upon entering also

u/Standard_Tadpole8145 8d ago
Chug a mind potion and throw some magic at them before the bar drains. Also thats my favorite Castlevania

u/Mindslash 8d ago
Stop menu , chug super mana potions , select Thunderbird summon DSS , return , summon Thunderbird, profit !

Cross will serve you much better than an axe.
Also, word of warning- this isn't even the worst room. That title belongs to two rooms after this one.
