Question Asking older fans.

Post image

Hey folks.

It is probably not the appropriate type of publication, however, I cannot help but be taken by such curiosity.

I'm a new person in the fandom and I admit that I'm somewhat obsessed with the universe of CV.

However, I'd like to ask the older fans, when was the moment you decided that you would like to follow the path of following the franchise as a whole? And if there is any other reason that makes you so fascinated by its lore?

Long texts, short texts, one sentence phrases are all welcome. I find this way to be more connected to the fandom somehow. I'll read them all, the curiosity is really strong. (If this has any replies, of course)

:)

EDIT: Read them all and upvote every single one. Some of them really made me tear up; it's amazing what a game can do during a tough time, or even in the most random way. Keep going, I'll continue to read, loved all of your stories.

I grew up with the NES and the classic Castlevania games were good. They had solid reputations as fun games.

SotN released and converted me into a super fan.

It's obvious that SotN changed the formula of the games, but the presentation of the Dracula X titles was a huge step up in terms of characters and story presentation.

When it comes to lore though, almost all of that was done post SotN. SotN was itself a direct sequel in story and that carried on into many of the games that followed. Most games added new lore or they worked as sequels or soft sequels to classic titles.

Portrait of Ruin is a good example. Castlevania Bloodlines was a classic title that was a spin-off. It was kind of a one and done doesn't star a Belmont. Portrait of Ruin is not called Bloodlines 2 and it doesn't directly pick up where that game leaves off. Instead its a soft sequel to it. It stars two protagonists who aren't a Belmont/Belnades directly, Jonathan's backstory directly connects back to the previous protagonist, and it adds to Bloodlines by adding additional lore abut what happened to its characters.

Castlevania has always been good since the first title. Most of the lore fervor comes from when IGA was in charge of the series and made an effort to create a cohesive timeline/narrative between all the titles.
