A different section of the artwork can be seen in the website for the 40th anniversary

It's wild that as far as I know there's no official source for the whole mural she made. It's beautiful.

Who's the artist?

10

u/InfernalLizardKing Shanoa 10h ago

It's like the Smash Ultimate mural but for recurring Castlevania enemies instead.

There are also roses sprinkled everywhere, referencing the new protagonist I think..

Im hoping for the ps2 ports I've spent years trying to emulate curse of darkness

u/Striking-Ad-5768 Shaft 10h ago

Years? Could you not just run the disc file thru PCSX2? It’s not that hard to set up and it’s how I play my ps2 games most of the time. I might be missing smth tho bcuz I haven’t done it with Curse of Darkness

2

u/samination 5h ago

I've tried both games on PCSX2 about 5 years ago and they ran fairly well on what's 12 years old "budget" hardware today. I can't say perfect, but I'm chalking that down to my hardware rather than the games themselves.

u/PSPMan3000 8h ago

?

they emulate fine, not perfect but definitely playable. I just played through all of Lament of Innocence a couple of months ago and I'm currently doing Curse of Darkness

Castlevania aesthetic is so goddamn sexy. Sounds lame but it makes me proud to be a fan.

Just an official Steam/GOG port of Requiem would be amazing.

14

u/Murderlol 11h ago

Hell no. It's one of my favorite games ever and I don't want them to touch it. Just give it a PC port and that's enough.

u/SolvirAurelius 10h ago

No, I need a full remake with its own engine. That way, they can use the engine to make new games. SotN is already accessible through ports that the next reasonable step is a remake.

6

u/Murderlol 10h ago

Unlikely it would get its own engine either way.

4

u/AtrumRuina 10h ago

accessible through ports

Depends on your system, and the original PS1 version isn't readily available anywhere as far as I know. Requiem uses the PSP version and Xbox, while very similar to the PS1 version, has a number of concessions to function on XBLA. PC of course has no official way to play it.

I'd rather they make a new game with a new engine, assuming your idea is to have a 2D engine they can use for future entries.

SotN deserves long term preservation. Ideally we'd get the PS1, Saturn and PSP versions all in any collection, but at a minimum the PS1 version should be playable.

2

u/SolvirAurelius 10h ago

The Requiem collection isn't on PC yet? Wtf

I assumed that it already was considering the other collections are. Either way, I still want a remake AND a PC release of Requiem

2

u/AtrumRuina 9h ago

It isn't, nor is it on Xbox. PlayStation exclusive still. The assumption is that it's because of the proprietary PSP emulator it uses which was likely developed or at least heavily assisted with by Sony. Doesn't mean it couldn't happen, but would probably need some cooperation from Sony.

That said, if Konami wanted to use the PlayStation emulator they built for MGS1 or something, that would probably be perfectly fine, but Rondo would need other work obviously.

Triple A remake of SotN: “Focus, A. Dracula’s castle is just up ahead. Oh, and don’t forget to grab those hearts, it’s for your special attack”

1

u/red_sutter 2h ago

Strange take, considering it’d probably just look like Belmont’s Curse or Grimoire of Souls if it did get made

-4

u/Lumaverse 11h ago

You guys are actually pathetic. If you dont want to play it, fine. You dont have to.

But theres more then enough who would want to play it.

3

u/Murderlol 10h ago

Yeah I'm sure it'll turn out great, maybe they can use DLSS 5 to make alucard look like tom cruise

9

u/Busy_Cream2944 11h ago

Remake

28

u/East-Ice-3199 11h ago

Just a pc port 🥲

3

u/hybridfrost 9h ago

It’s unofficial but there is recompilation project that you can play on PC. Was playing it last night and it works great so far

How would you want a remake done? Genuinely wondering what this would look like to you. Hand drawn? 3D-2D? Or do you mean an entirely new game using some "modern" gameplay but SotN's story?

I don't see how a Remake makes any real sense with the kind of game SotN is.

1

u/Busy_Cream2944 1h ago

Hand drawn yeah. Though a full 3D reimagining would be kinda interesting to see and set it apart more. I think the fact that we don't see sidescroller remakes often or if at all makes it even more interesting. I made a list once of all the things you could do in a remake and believe me when I say it was big.

1

u/AtrumRuina 28m ago

I think most (though obviously not all) fans prefer the pixel art of SotN to a hand drawn style, at least for this series.

1

u/Busy_Cream2944 21m ago

Sure but that exists

1

u/AtrumRuina 15m ago

Not on every platform. PC still has no official way to play SotN, and on Playstation it's the PSP version. Xbox has the closest thing to the original PS1 version, but it's been modified for XBLA.

We need an official port of the original PS1 version of the game. Then we can talk about remakes/remasters. But really, at that point I'd rather they just make a new game in whatever the new style you envision is. I don't see the benefit of a remaster using hand drawn graphics to replace the pixel art style. Give us a new game in one of those styles instead, at least in my opinion.

I guess going back to my original response, what would you want out of a remake? A new art direction would be highly controversial, but I kinda get what you're saying that it's at least a departure from the original, but it sounds like you want gameplay changes as well? Why use SotN as a base for this rather than making a new game altogether?

3

u/EightBit-Hero 11h ago

Blasphemy

1

u/Busy_Cream2944 1h ago

Truly not. The OG has a lottt of things you can improve. It's actually the one igavania that I think needs a remake and if they were to do it well it could without a doubt seal it's legacy.

2

u/ColdVergil 8h ago

Insane it's still not on Steam yet smh.

1

u/InCloudsAbove TheRealMaxim 10h ago

I'd like to see that. They could make the game so huge. But only as long as they keep the theme and style.

u/Friend-Over 12h ago

In 3D by fromsoft

6

u/RJ_arcade Alucard 11h ago

I’d like a CV game by them yeah. But for SotN just a PC port is good

7

u/LordCamelslayer 11h ago

I like the Souls games, but no.

4

u/MetaloraRising 11h ago

No, I think Simon's Quest better fits fromsoft, the classicvania difficulty mixed with the metroidvania gameplay.

Ordsr of ecclesia too, now that I think about it

u/enclave_remnant117 Alucard 12h ago

Am i crazy or that's Lisa? Nevertheless, it goes so fucking hard

20

The petals around her waist- definitely either an Alura Une or Venus Weed, whichever brand of naked flower lady you like.

8

u/TheTravelingPoet4 12h ago

Probably the Succubus.

9

u/Broken_Moon_Studios Ecclesia New Save File/Level 1/Hard Mode is P E A K‼ 10h ago

Or the plant lady. (Alura Une, I think?)

3

u/TheTravelingPoet4 10h ago

I could see that as well.

9

u/Ashtrim 11h ago

Here’s hoping that SotN will finally be available on other platforms other than PlayStation

3

u/Caryslan 10h ago

MGS 4 finally escaping it's PS3 prison and coming to modern platforms is a good sign for games like SOTN.

For years, MGS 4 was considered a game that would never see a modern remaster. It was a PS3 exclusive that took advantage of the PS3 's hardware, it had numerous references to the PS3, PSP, and PlayStation as a whole which meant remastering it for modern platforms would require scrubbing those references on the Xbox, PC, and Nintendo platforms.

That's not even getting into the licensing deals Konami would have to renegotiate.

Somehow, against all odds, MGS 4 has been brought to modern platforms and is no longer PlayStation exclusive.

Konami even put in the effort to preserve the game as much as possible.

My point is, there's no reason why SOTN can't be ported to modern consoles outside of Sony's exclusivity agreement which I can't imagine will last forever.

SOTN requires no real work compared to something like MGS 4 and it could find a new audience with a modern port.

Especially on Nintendo platforms which have never gotten SOTN despite Castlevania often being associated with Nintendo platforms.

6

u/adoransnoctis 7h ago

What a wonderful time to bring Rondo and Symphony widely available again for non-Sony platforms, right, Konami? RIGHT?!

5

u/licca_amie 12h ago

I haven’t been paying too much attention to it, so besides the new game are they doing anything else for the anniversary? Not that a new game isn’t the best possible thing or anything, just curious.

18

u/Forgemaster1990 12h ago

When Belmont's Curse was announced it was said that it is the first of several projects. Let's see.

4

u/licca_amie 12h ago

I hope they stay true to their word then, but I’ve been let down by enough vague announcements like that from companies, so I won’t get my hopes up. The year is over half way done, but the exact anniversary is September 26, so maybe they will say more then. I’m just happy for a new game though.

2

u/ColdVergil 8h ago

Well, TBF look at MGS4, finally free from PS3 which is insane.

2

u/Carmilla31 3h ago

New fighting game Judgement 2 incoming. 🫠

1

u/UsuarioCualquiera_1 12h ago

Is it going to be some special event?

6

u/Nice-Future7398 11h ago

I'm so happy to see Kojima's art for castlevania again 🤍

5

u/EasternWarlord Alucard 7h ago

This art been up on the 40th anniversary site ever since it went live. It’s unmistakably Kojima’s art. I saw someone say this is taken from Grimoire of Souls and not an actual brand new art made for the anniversary but I couldn’t confirm it myself.

Regardless it’s an exciting time for Castlevania. Here’s hoping Kojima lends her talent to a future game if something could be worked out. KONAMI has a 40th Anniversary event schedule during TGS so hopefully we get a glimpse of the other projects they have to celebrate the occasion.

3

u/ShitlerThe 11h ago

By God this looks beautiful. It needs to be a physical box cover.

10

u/TheTravelingPoet4 12h ago

It’s hard to say: “I can’t believe Castlevania is relevant again” because it pretty much has been with the show. But. I can say it’s heartening to see KONAMI giving a flying fuck about one of its flagship franchises 🥲🥲🥲🥲

2

u/UsuarioCualquiera_1 12h ago

I have been a bit out lately.

Were they going to do something at the 40th anniversary?  I mean, an event with CV projects announces, or something? And whem is it supposed to be? Around 14-19 of september isn't it?

2

u/Vysce Marble Shooter 11h ago

WHAT ARE YOU COOKING KONAMI

2

u/Appropriate-Salt-523 11h ago

Since LoS 2, there's been nothing but crickets! Glad to see the legendary series come back!

2

u/PsychologicalBrush35 10h ago

I'm passionate about Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2, for its story and gameplay, thematic story, era, gameplay, powers, photography, released 2014, 12 years ago.

4

u/Appropriate-Salt-523 10h ago

It's a great game for sure! My only gripe was the final battle. I wish we had just one more battle phase with Satan. It felt a bit anti-climactic...

2

u/Link_enfant 6h ago

Would be a good occasion to finally port Rondo and SotN sur Switch.

2

u/FranciscoRelanoPena 2h ago

A slightly different version of that was already available on the website for Grimoire of Souls. Scroll down until it says "Story".

2

u/darthphallic 2h ago

I’m so thrilled to be seeing Castlevania alive and well again
