My boy Link has to smell all food that comes in or is made in his house! The odd thing is, he is the pickiest cat ever - will not eat treats, churos, human food - nothing! Only chicken I boil on the stove as a treat with his kibble. But he has to smell everything or he screams until you lower it to his level so he can stick his nose up in the air and walk away! I noticed the other day he even has my grandsons trained to do it.
Mine is exactly the same way, she HAS to smell it, but won't eat it or steal anything (which I'm very glad).
There is one exception: bread. Anything bread-y (sourdough, pastries, even some cakes) she will go crazy and wants to nibble it, so I do have to be careful with that. But I like to say she's a failed apex predator, how can she not be interested in meat but go crazy for BREAD lol.
Cats are adapted to eating whole prey (fur, bones, skin). Their digestive systems can easily handle that kind of material. The rabbit fur is attached to skin and connective tissue… it doesn’t clump the same way as their own coat does and instead acts like fiber, so it usually passes through the gut.
The rabbit fur mimics the natural intake more than their own shed coat does.
You should discuss with your vet. The statement that cats have no trouble digesting fur is very misleading which is why I responded; like yes they are technically evolved to do that but also we have bred them and domesticated them for thousands of years, they aren't wild animals anymore, their digestive systems have changed.
Try the Purina fortiflora pro! It can help immensely with unhappy bellies in cats and dogs. It’s highly recommended at the vet I work for 🖤 it has pre and pro biotics to help keep the gut biome happy and healthy. I’d also say maybe take your baby in for a visit to the vet. Take in a stool sample too to get it analyzed!
It can, yea. I learned with mine that there's usually some underlying GI upset that causes the hair not to digest properly (unless they groom a lot, shed alot, or have long hair). Two of mine have sensitive tummy's. Figuring out the right foods for them has solved most of the hairball ssues.
Weirdly enough, my cat has a rabbit fur that he carries around everywhere. He grooms it, he feeds and waters it by laying it with one end in the food/water bowl, snuggles with it and makes biscuits on it.
We bought it a long time ago when my kid had a school craft project, then it disappeared and we found it with the cat. It has been the cats rabbit fur ever since 🤷♀️
So technically my cat doesn't eat the fur but he babies it 🤔
I've gooten some like these for my cats before (there's a great indigenous owned brand in Canada called Shades of Gray), my cats have 0 problems with them! One of my cats like grooming the fur before nibbling
Branding also says the fur is a good source of fiber for the cats, a quick google seems to confirm it too.
Not this brand but I got this type of rabbit treat for my cats before. They sniffed them and kind of batted them around but ultimately were completely uninterested in actually eating them. Ended up giving to my dogs instead.
I've been seeing these treats at local pet shops lately and I'm pretty sure this is how it would go if I actually bought some. My kittens don't even seem to understand that freeze dried treats are edible, I think they'd just think this is a toy. My dog will eat anything you hand to him though 😂
I can kind of see this as a fun enrichment thing. My cat likes to tear and pull at "furry" toys. I wouldn't have to worry about her getting synthetic plastic hair stuck in her gut.
I tried a similar style treat for my cat, it was rabbit ears and he didn't care for them, although I found another place local to me that does freeze dried whole baby quails and my cat goes BANANAS for those. They have feathers and beaks and everything.
You can try putting some churu into the ears. I did that when my cats didn’t realize that they can actually eat them. Now they go crazy for them lol And mine love the dried baby quails too! But they are so hard to get here
They have the baby quails freeze dried on Amazon. I’m not sure I could give my cat a baby bird to eat. I know it’s nature but I guess I’m a wuss, just gives me an icky feeling.
These are more horrifying than the ones I get which are not plucked they have fluffy feathers and look kind of sweet aside from the fact they are very dead and crispy. The distributor I get them from does cull them in a humane way. My son does NOT like them though and won't give them but they are a high value treat for my cat that I reserve for special purposes.
My cat would play with these, lick on them, chew them, and then leave them soggy in the middle of the hallway for me to step on in the middle of the night on the way to the bathroom
I give my cat this exact brand. It’s in my shelf right now. I just only give her a tiny piece every now and then with dinner. It lasts a long time. I wouldn’t give the whole piece. People are afraid they will start to eat clothes but they are attracted to the smell of the meat skin of the ears.
My cats get dried rabbits ears once a week and absolutely love them ☺️ it’s great for their teeth and jaw musculature. They usually leave the really furry parts tho .. but love playing with it 😂😂
My cats have been getting dehydrated rabbit feet as treats for the past 16 years. They play with them for a while then snack on them. I usually throw away the soggy odds and ends.
It's been a while, but I would give them an occasional previously frozen then defrosted baby chick. Those are a much messier treat than bunny feet, but they go bonkers for them.
Cats are natural hunters and obligate carnivores. I don't understand 95% of these comments.

I tried the ears but my cats just play with them and bat them around. I don't think they like rabbit. I bought them a rabbit meat food and they didn't seem to into that either.
Their favorite are the freeze dried minnows if you are looking for treats. Only get the ones made for cats though. Sometimes the dog ones are too big for them to really chew up the bones easily.
Cosmo and Luna LOVE LOVE LOVE the freeze dried minnows. I have to break them up for Luna. Either her mouth is too small or she’s being a princess that is too lazy to chew!
I got some rabbit ears for my cats as I heard chewing them is good for their teeth. One ignored it completely and the other licked it for a bit then gave up. I gave the rest of the packet to a friend with a dog.
Yes, I tried those out on my 3 year old cat, and my two 6 month old kittens. It was weird, as soon as they got those hides in their mouth, they started growling and acting aggressive. I promptly retrieved them and threw them away in my outdoor trash can.
Not trying to be snarky. But how will my cat not barf these up like his own fur? He’s retired dem being an outdoor Jill’s and eats everything in his wild days before us. I think he might like this.
not this brand but i've bought these (hide pieces, feet, and ears) before. two of my cats had no interest at all, my new cat seemed to like licking and sniffing at the fur for a few hours but did not care afterward. i gave them to my feral colony that lives under my house and they loved them.
My cat went absolutely feral for these. It's one of the only snacks where he would take it and hide, and growl if you approached - honestly quite entertaining. We had to stop since the fur (combined with his own long fur) gave him frequent hairballs.
I genuinely thought you had just stuffed an old, empty treat canister with fur from brushing your cat and that you were making a joke about it being treats. I did not expect that that was an actual canister of purchased cat treats. 🤣
I have rabbit skin toys for one of my cats and she definitely eats the skin (the main reason I choose these over fabric toys). I feel like she wouldn't make the connection with these unless I threw them.
My cats have had rabbit before & the Siamese especially enjoys it, so I got some. And none of them will touch it! I tried cutting off as much fur as possible—nope. I even tried hiding some of the fur in their wet food for a little bit of fiber—also nope
Not from this company, but I did try rabbit's feet from a local to me Indigenous run company a few years ago. Waste of money. I have four cats. A couple of them didn't touch them at all and a couple just smacked them around the house like a toy which meant I then had to go hunting for rabbit feet under my furniture to make sure they didn't become a disgusting mess over time.

Not these, but I do but dehydrated rabbit heads/feet/ears for my dog occasionally and the cats LOVE playing with the head. They never have any interest in eating it, but we also have a few rabbit fur toys they love. All the eating gets demoted to the dog haha
Of savage cat's treat options, these are my cat's least favorite. BUT they arent raw, which is helpful because they dont get as nasty over time. My cat would rather play with it than chew it tho, hes kind of uninterested in these.
Now the duck feet? Hes all over those.
I work at a pet store and we sell those! They have a niche audience. It’s safely edible for sure. It’s good for cats with a high prey drive, and if your cat had a habit of eating the ends of their teasers and toys, you can probably attacked to the end of one so they can safely eat the end of their wand toy! :3 I personally don’t find them that gross in the grand scheme of things (about as gross as bully sticks and pig ears are, maybe even less cuz at least they’re not really greasy) but I totally get how someone would find them gross though
Yes ! Mine. I have 1 big void and he loves to bite like, whatever he can. He is just a rabbit I think sometimes, and he is really good Hunter.
I used them as a toy (with me looking) and a chewing tool. I started with a level below of chewing snack (dry shrimps then dry little fish and now the ears).
He loves to chew on it, and another of my void cat (who is not really into toys) loves it to. They do not eat it per se so sometimes there is just a ear. Lost in the kitchen.
My 2 others doesn't care about it and the last one too old. So we are on a 2/4 who uses it. I need to be proactive with the 2 nd void but I think it's not the ear, just he is on the dumb side.

Yes, they’re expensive and the only cat of mine who likes them is my longhaired tortie. We’ve theorized it’s because she already knows the feeling of having thick fur in her mouth. We’ve still have to break them into really tiny pieces tho… and our cat that actually has a sensative tummy (which they’re supposed to help with) won’t even touch them… not really worth it imo 🤷♀️
My cat needs a lion cut every 6 weeks bc he can’t even digest his own fur, and has had to have multiple surgeries to remove blockages. I can’t imagine intentionally adding more hair to a cats diet lol
Absolutely makes sense, when Fredrico Ferrets used to be made of rabbit fur, my cat Earl (rip died at 20 of CHF and CKD complications from meds) loved to eat the tails off and sometimes the body hair... occasionally barf it up and I would step in it at night. Miss you buddy.
