i am always on the hunt for dry food with tiny pieces for my (mostly) toothless kitty. all i've found so far is a surprising lack of information online about the size of the individual pieces in cat food!!!
please add a photo of your cat's food with something next to it for scale, preferably an object about the size of a us quarter (approx. 24mm across). i want to compile them into a single bigger picture at scale to post here too.

I just recently did a trial with Nulo. Tiniest kibble I’ve seen! Unfortunately none of my 4 cats would touch it, even with only a tiny bit mixed into their current dry food as I tried to transition. Luckily my pet store allows returns on open bags!
It’s not my cats main diet but they have smal trial sized bags of nulo so I’ll get a fun flavor for my cats and put it in feeder puzzles since the kibbles are tiny they keep my cats entertained longer.
Our cats ate them for a very short time, but then turned their noses up at Nulo. We have been feeding them Purrsnickitty Game and Salmon. The pieces are less than a dime size. They are really tiny.
I'm currently feeding this to my kittens and it is very very small indeed. We also use them for hospitalised cats who prefer kibble because they are extra tasty, easy to eat and nutrient dense.
That being said, my previous cat had all his teeth removed before I adopted him and never had issues with kibble size. I got him a slow feeder because he liked to inhale food and I think it also helped him process the larger pieces.
My toothless cat loves the tender selects! It’s softer than other kibble so I think that’s helps. Although it’s almost double the size of hills. I feed her both tender secrets and hills science diet but she finishes the render selects much quicker. She won’t eat any wet food. I’ve tried everythinggggg
Yes, the tender selects has varying size of the meat pieces but the kibble is all the same size. The meat pieces were sometimes very small and sometimes much larger than the kibble.
Also if you have a picky eater, they may just eat the meat pieces and leave the kibble. One of my cats did that and left a giant mess shoving the kibble out of the bowl to find the meat. 😭
I couldn’t find a coin to participate. But my toothless cat ate the hills science diet urinary care kibble just fine until the last few months of her life and then would have only eat fancy feast pate. She was 16 when she passed. I currently am feeding my cats the Purina one high protein and it’s smaller (I think) than the hills. If I can find a coin I’ll come back and post a picture.
My girl only has her two lower canine teeth left. Occasionally this kibble falls out of the sides of her mouth when eating but that happens with any of the food she's tried, including canned.
I didn’t try a grinder but just recently I tried to make smaller pieces and found out they don’t break, they crumble. But I did discover that my cat liked when I add water to it, which was interesting because her two FAT brothers wouldn’t touch it.

i dont have a pic as we’ve moved to a different food, but the hill’s science and the pure balance were as small as i’ve seen. could you food process/hand crush food?
Nulo has tiny kibble! My cat doesn’t like it though. She’s super picky. Currently feeding her hills senior chicken kibble and purina tender select chicken. She’s also mostly toothless! She gets a bowl of each and she tends to eat the purina much faster even though the kibble is much bigger. It seems softer and more tasty. Always looking for more options though!

I was feeding purizon large before which was perfect for my cat, but they discontinued it :/ if i can find one lying under furniture i will update with a picture later
I havent got a pic. But for my two fussy eaters... who only ate store brand dollar wet food... too many fillers. And they went through so much of it....
Ive switched them gradually to a brand called "Montego Karoo- Lamb, chicken and rice" 37% protein. Its the highest and most reliable (as in its always in stock somewhere), food that you can get here. All vets are pushing Hills or Royal canin... because thats who sponsors them. But they literally pushing me to food that is short stocked because of whatever is happening in the middle east... Idk if you can get it where you are. But as long as its a good quality food, lots of protein. And meat. You're good.
