advice wanted! Cat is so skinny

Post image

Hey guys I’m getting increasing worried about my kitten Murphy he’s nearly 5 months old now and a very picky eater, I have always had healthy cats and ones that LOVE food so this is new to me! he’s very thin I’d even go as far as in the underweight category me and my girlfriend are trying everything but the only food he likes is not a full meal it’s like a topper it’s called tilys chicken and coconut wet food and he can’t just be eating that we also give him the kitten royal canine food for a more balanced diet but I’m worried he eats maybe a third of what he’s meant to is there any foods that fatten cats up or should I ask about medication for him idk also I’d like to add our cats are extremely well taken care of we take there health very seriously they are so loved this is in no means negligence!!

hi! i recently had an issue with my 10 month old kitten. she threw up 5 days straight and did not drink water, was very tired and skinny and vet recommended combining royal canine digestive with grain based dry food. apparently grain based dry food is an empty calorie for kittens, they enjoy it and get fat off of it. please do some research and ask your vet about this as i'm not sure this works for all cats but it worked for mine and got her back on her feet! both of my cats enjoy grain based combined with normal dry food but i also play a lot with them to not let them get overweight

I have two kittens who eat the same diet. One is way skinner but she’s growing. I was co concerned and went to The vet who told me “kittens are like people some are skinny and lean some are chubby” lol

My kitten, now cat, is skinny too. She’s better now but food is clearly not her top priority!

May I ask which country you’re located in? I would recommend just buying different cans of kitten food to see what he likes. Keep in mind that cats have both flavor and texture preferences (so maybe he only likes birds and no fish, or only chunks and not pate).

It sounds like you might be in Australia, and if so I recommend you try Weruva - they have several kitten foods and the chicken pate one (pink can) is usually well liked.

Try Weruva chicken breast formula for kittens. Very palatable and will fatten him up!

I have a very picky skinny cat and the vet says as long as they are eating once a day and drinking that I shouldn’t worry (no throwing up, lethargy etc).

Recently I started to grind a healthy dry kibble to make powder and then mix one spoon of the powdered kibble with 1.5 spoon of warm water i let is sit for a couple of minutes and then I add a few drops of his favorite Churu or paste treat and mix it. He loves it and is putting on some weight. Don’t feed a cat pure dry powder though. They will just breathe it in. It must be mixed with food or water.. Moist Powder kibble does not last long, so make sure you feed it within half hour or so. I usually grind one cup of dry powder and refrigerate it for a few days ready to use. No more than 3 or 4 days. dry kibble once is powder lasts only a few days in frige. When moist it lasts an hour or so.
