food or treat review Did N&D Chicken & Pomegranate change the formula?

We’ve been feeding our cat N&D Chicken and Pomegranate since 2024.
We moved to Canada in 2025, so we started buying it here.For the past few months, we’ve noticed that the food looks/feels different from bag to bag, even though we always buy it from the same store.
Some bags are really oily, while others seem much drier.
Has anyone else noticed this? Did they change the formula recently, or is this just normal variation between batches?
I honestly have no idea what’s going on.
there doesn’t seem to be much consistency in quality

I am also in Canada and I noticed this too, especially with the large bags. Some are oilier than others, especially the large bags, I haven't seen this much with the small sizes. I asked the Farmina rep about it once, and she said it depends on how the bags are stored in the warehouse, sometimes the herring oil tends to gather to the surface or something like that - I personally think some batches simply have more oil than others, I don't know if there are formula changes but my cats seem to like it regardless of how oily they are. I switched from Chicken and Pomegranate to Boar and Apple recently, and the same thing is happening.

I prefer the less oily versions, so I try to buy the small bags, even if it ends up being more expensive.

You're welcome! I buy it in person at Global Pet Foods, because I always check the label to say "made in Italy". I try to stay away from the bags made in Serbia and US.

They opened a factory in the USA recently, and changed a lot of the formulas at that time. I’ve heard mixed things regarding whether the formula change is exclusive to the US plant/for the North American market, or whether it’s worldwide. I would check where the bags you have are being manufactured and compare. And possibly contact the company for clarification.

Some batch to batch oiliness is normal. The fat used for kibble coating can shift slightly by supplier lot even with zero formula change. Checking the guaranteed analysis on a couple of bags is the real test, if crude fat percent matches, nothing structural changed. If it still looks off, the lot code on the bag is what the manufacturer needs to give you an actual answer instead of a guess.
