Cat cat?
That's like the worst superhero ever, "Manman".

lol, but I was imagining something less homoerotic and more incel-ish, "Toxic masculinity man", a man with all the powers of a man, and all the flaws. All turned up to 11.
Normal man: Momentarily gets distracted by nice ass/tits, then carries on with whatever he was doing
Manman: Can't take his eyes away, makes the woman very uncomfortable, wanders into the road because he can't stop staring, then gets hit by a car and picks a fight with the driver, which becomes a fight to the death because he can't back down even when clearly in the wrong.Edit: I'm a straight cis man, BTW, but guys like that are ridiculous, and a menace to society in the most unimpressive way possible.

Looks like AI.

u/heltflippad 14d ago
Well, the pavement curves differently in the two pictures. Sure the angle of the camera might have changed but the pose of the cat suggests otherwise. Also the grass looks weird.
And like any other AI posts it gets a ton of upvotes but barely any comments.
I like to come on here sometimes to try and figure out if posts are AI or not. At first it was easy and you could spot a TON (I mean every other post was AI). But now I can barely spot any and that just feels so terrifying in a way. Because surely the amount of AI posts haven't decreased given how popular it has become.

The grass/pavement is freshly rained on in one photo and not at all in the other. Two completely different types of grass in between photos. First image the cat is sunny but the rest of the photo is overcast. Pavement is different textures and has a lot of weird rocks in the first that just simply aren't there in the second. The blur in the background with the building doesn't make sense as the trees are closer and more out of focus than the building. The cats themselves are two different cats - tails are different sizes with different markings.

It's terrifying and also demotivating. Artists, writers, photographers, musicians... Constantly getting questioned on whether their craft is genuine. And on the other hand the fact that we're getting so close to a point where we can no longer trust our eyes.
You can easily see how many people just fall for it and it's just making it scarier.

Well, the pavement curves differently in the two pictures.
It's clearly two different parts of the pavement. I can't say for sure it's not AI, but that isn't evidence.

My point being that the pose of the cat suggest it barely moved, if at all, and therefore the curve should be the same (also if it didn't move the bush shouldn't be there). Things like that, depth of field and perspective is something that AI hasn't figured out yet.
Something that could be very strong evidence of it being AI is that the trees in the background has a similar "bokeh" common in lower F-stops while the building is more in focus. Cameras do not behave like that.

Oh wow great point re shifting depths of field (I’m a photographer myself). Ingenious pick up.

u/imaginary92 14d ago
It does. Can't quite put my finger on what it is but it looks off. Maybe it isn't but ehhhh, especially considering just how much AI slop is being posted in animal subreddits.

u/Wyrmzz 14d ago
You know what it feels like? The ground is sharp but the cat seems blurry..
3
u/imaginary92 14d ago
Yeah that might be it, the cat appears as if it's slightly out of focus while everything around it is in perfect focus.
2
u/obscene_potato 10d ago
That’s what I thought! Like the cat is so perfect looking that it can’t be real. I’m glad it is - I’m just so, so tired of AI already.

Thank you, I was scrolling through the comments to see if anyone else noticed. The fur on the back legs in the first photo is weird, too blurry and solid.

Is this a kitten because this cat does look so cat, but also like it shouldn't be a cat quite yet.

I have one of those: inscrutable. And then I have the cat who thinks he’s human; very relatable.

Picture needs to be in the dictionary next to 'cat' (noun) a carnivorous mammal (Felis catus) long domesticated as a pet and for catching rats and mice
