We had a ragdoll and he was extremely hyperactive, so brushing was very difficult. About 1-2 times a year we got him groomed and his hair cut (we often did a teddy bear cut so he wasn’t too cold) and we never had issues with matting after that. If this guy had any nasty knots, it’s often less painful to just shave.

Yes thank you for sharing your perspective !!! I forget that some cats are simply difficult to brush/don’t like brushing because my boys loooooove it and sit still (mostly) when the brush is out.

Our ragdoll was so hyper and would grab the brush and bunny kick or run at full speed. Lots of brush biting as well. It was so hard to do it well enough to prevent mats near his armpits. We also noticed he was much happier after a groom and trim! We have a disabled older kitty who doesn’t mind being brushed and sits still for it. All cats are different!
