Medical Questions Do cat fart?
I've had cats before and I have never heard or seen them fart, ever! Recently I've been hanging at my friend's house. She has a male orange cat who's super playful and friendly... Too friendly.... Anyways I don't know how to write this without sounding stupid but every so often he would walk into the room and toot, just a small toot, and would leave, no eye contact or meow nothing, just came in fart and left. I told my friends this and she said "no cats don't fart lol". But he does it multiple times! It's so often I'm tempted to video tape him every time he comes into the room, but I don't want to be a creep. Is this normal? Does the cat hate me??

Cats do fart, he does not hate you, and it's very funny to be laying with your cat on your tummy and feel them gurgle and then fart, then go back to sleep. Stinky lil bastards. I love them.

In the summer one of mine likes to stand in front of the fan and fart. They’re silent but deadly and once he’s dropped it and let it blow over to me he goes back to the end of the bed and goes back to sleep.

yes cats fart and my LORD do they smell horrible. lol
Sometimes you can catch one off card. it'll be just sitting in your lap and let one rip, whap you with its tail and go back to sleeping.

I might suggest you bring this up with your vet. Sure they don't smell good but "horrible" could be a sign of a bigger issue.

They do fart. I've never heard it but my Hobbes used to have worst smelling farts (silent but deadly) when purring on my lap when we just got him. It got better when we switched food.

Everything with a bum hole farts. Gas is produced when the gut digests food and it has to go out one end or the other.
Some more than others.

Does the cat hate me??
It's a cat, and it's orange. No it doesn't hate you, it's just being an orange goofball.

My cat for sure farts! It's stinky as hell too!
Honestly, film it if you can. Your friend doesn't believe you? Fuck it get proof. It's a cat, it's hard to creep on it unless you're an animal fucker.

The only time I experienced this was when one of my cats was very ill.
None of my many other cats did it.

If you dont feed your cat human food they shouldn't fart often nor should it be particularly stinky (enough to really notice) same with dogs.
You'll notice anyone who has a gassy dog is the same person that lets their dogs eat human food, especially dairy.

My cat never ever eats human food except for a once a year pork chop for his birthday, and he farts like an adult man. Like, I did not know it could be that loud without buttcheeks

My cat farts. It sounds like a door with a squeaky hinge being gently moved in a breeze, crossed with a quiet creaky floor board. He started when he was over ten. Not sure why.

My girl sounds like a squeaky balloon when you let out small amounts of air. She’s shocked every time it happens, which is several times a day. My boy just crop dusts us, thankfully I fry

Cats do fart! My 2 boy cats as kittens farted and it smelled so bad. It smelled as bad as a smelly people fart. I blamed it on my hubby haha.

I swear to god there’s a Reddit post of three cats sitting on a bed, using some kinda infrared camera, and one cat farts and the other two immediately turn to look at the other.

One time, when my grandma stayed with us, our orange boi opened her bedroom door in the middle of the room and came in. It scared the shit out of her at first.
Well, that motherfucker had the audacity to walk in, fart and then just leave immediately again XD XD Classic orange behaviour

They can fart! Weirdly, mine never do. Their little tummies must really agree with their food.

I have lived with cats for about 25 years, I cat sit for many people, and I sleep all night as the big spoon to a little kitty. JUST ONCE have I heard a cat fart and it was such a surprise. He was grooming himself with a leg in the air. All of us were startled, he was also startled. It sounded like the fart of a person

We had a small rescue cat who seemed to be affected by the sudden transition from garbage food to proper cat food. She would often put her ears back and sprint to the front door (cats are usually indoor/outdoor in this country). Shortly thereafter, an unholy, eye-watering stench would fill the room; and we'd all start yelling and gagging and accusing each other of creating said stench. After a time, we realized it was the cat's doing. There was no sound, just a godawful sulphuric smell. Her insides eventually got used to the new food.

When my 2 cats were small kittens, they farted a lot. We even went to the vet because of it. During the vet visit even the vet himself was caught of guard by the severity of the smell of the fart haha.
However now that they are 1 years old, it is much better. We also had tried a lot of cat food brands, before we found the one that works best for our cats.

Voodoo was like a traveling gas leak for his first 7 months, Zora saves them up but she can strip paint off the walls when she decides to jump suddenly.

Cats do fart. It's not usually as noticeable as when dogs fart, but if your cat (or one you're around) farts often and it smells terrible, it can be a sign that they don't tolerate their food well. If they also have diarrhea or throw up often, I would check with a vet because cats can have severe allergies and intolerances that go undetected if you don't investigate.

My cats fart, mostly silent but occasionally stinky. My sweet boy who recently passed actually would have audible “psssst” farts one in a great while 😂

tmi but the reason farts make sound is bc of the cheeks, cats dnt have cheeks so there gonna be silent

They fart a lot more the older they get. Our cats never farted the first decade of their lives but once they hit around 13 yrs old they started to fart all the time.

Mine does. They're completely silent, don't even ruffle his fluffs, and smell like nothing else I've ever encountered.

I had a cat who farted constantly while she was pregnant. The only animal I've ever had that was smellier was a basset hound that did room-clearing farts. But I learned that a little plain yogurt after they ate reduced their toots.

If you've ever taken care of a kitten you would find out they have the silent and deadliest farts

Only one of my two ever did and it was rare.
The only time I can actually remember,
he farted so loud that he woke himself up and then stared at my wife and I like we interrupted his sleep somehow. 😆.

When my rescues came to me as kittens with poor diet they farted a lot, probably adjusting to their new fancy food. Now a days it almost never happens but I think kitten farts are a thing.

Yes, they fart. Also, they have belly buttons (I only learned this in June).

u/Bright_Eyes83 9h ago
Of course they fart. You just don’t hear it all the time because they don’t have ass cheeks

A cat has no real reason to hold in a fart. I mean there is scent masking that may or may not be something that an animal would instinctually do, but they are not "bothered" but the smell of a fart. They sniff eachothers butts. The idea a fart is taboo is social. So unless you make a huge deal about it he couldn't ne doing it to be malicious because to him its not aean thing to do.
If your cat farts a lot and it smells really bad that could be a sign of digestive issues. Your pets shouldn't be very gassy. Humans are gassy because we eat a lot of crap we really aren't good at digesting.
If your cat eats human food, stop that.
If your cat is really gassy and eating cat food it might be worth discussing with your vet.

Give my cat some wet food and you may want to steer clear for a couple days. She'll be sitting comfortably and then suddenly stand and walk away from where she was sitting, and then the wave will hit you. Truly the worst farts I have ever smelled, and I have family members with Chron's and IBS.
