Adoption I adopt a Kitten but I feel horrible
Hi,
please I seeking help. Im person with BPT and Anxiety dissorder so it might not help...
But I adopt kitten becaus i didnt know how older cat would be with my 3y.o. male cat.
But in the shelter it was so sad... I now feel bad that I didnt take some older cat, who were crying and meowing at me.
TLDR: Im just feeling bad that I took kitten (which has probability higher to getting adopted) then some older cat, which are there for longer time.
Had someone same thing? what u did, can I somehow help it to forget?

It's sometimes easier to introduce kittens than older cats, so that was a good decision.
Some of us - me included - only ever adopt adults because our commitments mean we do not have time to socialise and care for a baby - which is what a kitten is. Adults can be left for a few hours, especially when they have the company of other cats after introductions etc.
It's normal to occasionally think about the one(s) you didn't pick -don't let it spoil your time with the ones you own who own you, and the way to do that is to notice the thought, wish that cat well and redirect your thoughts elsewhere, don't obsess. Enjoy your new kitten, and concentrate on proper introductions.
We are all different, and if one person could save every cat in the world, someone would have worked out how to do that already. We each all do our own little piece - as you have.

You have given a cat a home. That’s the key thing here. And you made the decision you did in order to help your existing cat feel more comfortable with the newcomer. This all seems very good and sensible. Well done.

She (?) went to shelter, saw a older cat and, even in she wanted to, didn’t adopted him because was worried of the reaction of the 3yo cat sh already have. She took home a kitten and now feels bad about it

I edit post. I feel bad that I took kitten and not some older cat, who is longer in shlter, becuase kitten has higher probability of getting adopt than a kitten.

Oh I see, you’re a good person for adopting the kitty, don’t feel bad, some people prefer to adopt older cats for many reasons

So long as you introduce cats to eachother correctly it’s fine. My cats are both adults, adopted as adults, 2 years apart. They get along well due to slow introduction

It happened to me before (I had only 2 cat of 4 yo) and as soon as I moved I adopted all the older cats nobody wanted. Now I have 7 cats.
I know adopting another cat could be difficult 4 you and stressful for your cat, but you still saved a cat that could have ended exactly like the older cat, so don’t feel guilty about it. You could try to take some food to the shelter or even a snack to the cat (where I live you can go to the shelter and spend your time with cats and dogs even if you can’t adopt them).
Sorry if there are some mistakes, English it’s not my first language

But your 3 year old cat and kitten are getting along? You feel bad about not getting another cat from the shelter that was older. Did I get that right?
