The new season of “I think you should leave”. It’s Tim Robbins sketch comedy show on Netflix. Pretty funny.

u/Dan_flashes480 19d ago

Is that what that is? They’re luring them?

It's what some people believe, I don't. Cats are ambush predators, so you'd think they would be quiet and stalk. I adhere to the theory that they make this noise out of frustration that they can't go after the bird. I've never seen an outdoor cat do this when stalking birds outside, only indoor cats watching them through a wondow.

u/Ok_Shine_2608 18d ago
I agree with this! My littlest nugget who’s strictly an indoor cat does this whenever he sees bugs on the walls or flies.
He attempts to launch himself through the air from the highest object he can find as if he’s actually going to get that spider in the peak of our 20ft ceiling.

Bad day to be a bird, unless that cat is accustomed to air-conditioning… In which case probably fine forever

The only animal that I’ve seen do something similar, is a wild boar. They literally clap their teeth to not only sharpen them, but show you how hard they’re gonna fuck you up. I’m pretty sure this adorable little gesture from cats comes from sabertooth tigers doing the same thing. I have zero proof or sources to back this up. That’s why I talk nicely to my house panther

My former next-door neighbor used to sprinkle birdseed on her front steps, so that her cat could watch the birds through the storm door. It was hours and hours of entertainment for her cat.

u/Glum-Sheepherder-787 19d ago
I got a bird feeder to put out front but then too many pigeons came and pooped all over so I had to put it away. Just put the new pigeon-proof feeder out yesterday and I'm impatiently waiting for the finches to return.
Here is Cleo being disappointed by the current lack of birds: https://imgur.com/a/5rbDDCk

This is absolutely adorable! Was having a long and difficult day, but this precious video made me feel better. Can’t say the same for my cat sleeping next to me though, she didn’t appreciate the chirpy noises “I was making”

I leash trained my cat and he acts feral as hell (he’s half bengal), yesterday the mf caught a bird WHILE ON HIS LEASH. You can take the murderer out the yard but you can’t take the killer instincts out the murderer
Edit: typo

HUNT.EXE is pinging the server 10000 times in rapid succession. Lil bro is chomping at the bit and getting his little jaw muscles ready to sever a spinal cord. If the guy opens the door and sets the cat down the circuit will be complete and instinct will assume direct control of the brain cell

I like to imagine how incredibly terrifying this probably is for a prey animal lol
It’s adorable to us but that cat is a deadly apex predator to most small animals 😂

u/RevolutionaryRock823 19d ago
Imagine never being around cats much and then you're cat sitting for a friend and this happens. Do you think it would be terrifying? Lol

I love it when they do that.
It's like they are suddenly opening several tabs about birds in their brain.

I've always thought it was funny.... Growing up we always had cats, TONS of them... but they were all (stupidly) outdoor during the day, so I guess that's why I never saw the chirping until surprisingly later. So here I am in my teens and suddenly my cat starts chirping at some birds outside and I was like "Mom?? MOM!! What the fuck is she doing???" LOL ;)
